- Hey Guys, here is the final version of the MBTA Orange Line Door Chimes Project. this project has been in the works for the better part of over a year and a half. i have been working really hard to preserve and archive all of these chimes since they are truly one of a kind and don't exist anywhere else to my knowledge. It has been one hell of a ride recording all of these and i hope all of you enjoy my hard work and effort in making this! As always, like comment and subscribe! And DFTBA!

I still miss the old trains, but I’m really glad that the new trains got the older trains horn.

In which I went to pay my respects at the Wellington barn today for my annual Boston visit. If only my ears could hear them once more. But a 1700 on the Red Line for my outgoing ride was close enough.

Lots of thought and time went into this! So disappointed that they have to shut it down for so long. Hope the can get things straightened out quickly. Love hearing the chimes and announcements! Sad to see so many of those cars in such rough shape. They could have been refurbished! Thanks for a great job!

These new ones are kind of weird. They just take the ADA beep and turn that into the indication thaf the doors are closing.

But thank you for that, cuz I have sincerely missed the old orange line cars and their drunk sounding chimes. Especially the ones where the second tone is out of pitch with the first, like 1235 and 1308.
That always made me laugh everytime heard it and was easily my favorite part of riding the orange line. So I'm glad someone had documented this
Thank you! It took an extreme amount of dedication, patience and effort to make this video. I wanted to archive them since the 0600s never got that treatment since the internet and especially TH-cam was still in its infancy
Wow nice, I've been thinking of doing something similar with the R46s and R68/As here in NYC, watching this gives me more motivation. The first time I rode the MBTA Orange Line, I got car 01235 with the drunk PA chime; I ended up thinking they were all supposed to sound that way for a while lol

The Broad St Subway(orange line) in Philadelphia used the same chimes until 2007. Would be great audio for a Bve BSS Kawasaki Car.

You are such a super smart individual. I noticed some people looking at you while you were aiming your phone for your project on the door chimes. I think people are so incredibly rude nowadays. Thank you for what you do. Have fun in college, and yes, it only makes sense that they will be running less 12's they are replacing the tracks which my guess will be with updated rail and it might be hard to run the older guys on the new rail. Those 12's are all going to be gone by the end of the year and they will be running just the 14's from 2023 forward. I am going to guess that maybe the out of sequence numbers like if it went 01237-01248 (for example), I'm going to guess that means those trains have been taken out of service and potentially scrapped too? I'm sure 40-43 years ago, all those door chimes sounded the exact same. Now they are tired.
Lastly, have you ever tried looking for videos from around the time they were released for the original door chime sound? I have seen video of them traveling from back in like 1983, 1985. I found a video. Someone (with an alike interest in them) recorded them from Oak Grove down to Forest Hills. I wanna say this was in 1987 that the video was made.

Because of the way the doors slide on these cars, I named them Cardboard Doors.

It is always pretty much the same, maybe a new approach would sounde better. Like a 3 tone instead od the same 2 tone. Like again a varied tone

Nope not at all!
My favorite is when you're heart the comes inside the train and it sounds like the train is drunk or stupid or something. Always made me laugh when I got to hear "idiot train" as I put it

Why are they all diffrent?
Just technology of the time. The circuitry used to produce the chimes has different voltages and such so that’s what causes the variety
