My family offered to lend me money for my tuition but I opted to take Canadian student loans instead. My tuition was $32,000 overall, but I ended up receiving $28,000 in loans and $4,000 in low income grants. I did not need to pay back the grants, so by taking the loans from the government rather than my family, I actually saved $4000. It helped me to be able to pay off my debt and expenses in full by the time I graduated.
@aena I'm from Canada, so I'm not sure about international student loans / residency etc. I actually did a 2 year diploma in environmental science, and then a 2 year post-diploma bachelor of science degree in environmental science (the college and the university had a transfer program in place to transfer the 2 year diploma as the first two years of the degree basically). I then ended up doing a second bachelors degree in civil engineering (my original post above was only referring to the engineering degree). So I ended up being in school for way longer than usual, and my situation was not typical at all. I'm not sure about the career prospects of someone with just a 2 year diploma, but I can tell you that I found it to be the best / most practical schooling compared to the bachelors degrees. You could contact the college that your interested in and ask if they offer internship/job seeking assistance to students/graduates (and specifically for the international students), and also if there is a transfer program available to a nearby university to continue on to a bachelor's degree. If so, it could be good incase you realize that the bachelors degree is necessary in your field, or if you are unable to find work after graduation and need to re-enrol as a student somewhere to not loose your visa (I'm not sure how that works). Those international fees are crazy high though, so good luck!

Hi Parul My name is Akshay and I have been accepted to University of Guelph. The yearly fees at Guelph is around 30,000$ and I have been offered an entrance scholarship of 8500$. Also, I have taken an education loan of 40 lakhs. My course is computer science and it has a co-op of 5 terms, i.e. 1 year 8 months of co-op. So the complete degree is of 4 years 8 months. Is the loan worth it ???
Its an expensive degree. I would suggest that only if you have strong financial family background to back you up. 40 lakhs is a big loan. so decide wisely. Consider worst case scenarios and calculate in advance. how much and when you can pay back and if not make sure your family is there to support you.
Don't forget to mention that most people have to move to other provinces to get pr when they are on work permit and sometimes you have to pay fees to lawyers as well

Hello ..my course was of 1 year and now it was completed in august...i will take another course in jan..i am eligible to do 20 hours work or not from oct to dec.
Additional info if you are taking loan and this is my personal experience as i struggled for 5months for loan so first is if you are going to do masters or degree only then go to govt banks. If not then take loan from hdfc credila as credila is branch of hdfc only for student loan though interest is lil high but the thing is they will give you loan no matter what whether it is diploma,degree, master. And plus point taking loan with them is the repayment start after 3years for diploma they give you 1 additional year.
