i got some money so bought dad his first fender in 50 yrs of playing which was really sweet of me😁 worth it ,to hear him say "a real one!" when he opened thomann box
I wish i have just one fender strat. In Turkey this guitar 8500₺-9000₺, if I want the have this guitar I must work 4-5 months. 5 months! I am a just student, this is so sad.
Can I just say that you’ve become one of my top favorites here on TH-cam that reviews and compares gear. You thoroughly go in depth even inside the pick guard. It’s awesome to see the innards of guitars too. That way, it shows us the full overall QC of the instrument and not just the outside. You are a much appreciated TH-camr. Thanks Landon.
Although the guitar was shipped as SSS, I like how how the body was routed as HSH giving you options for future upgrades. I bought an excellent loaded pickguard in a HSH configuration with SD P-Rail pickups from 920D Custom Shop online.
I have this one and wanted an American model so bought a 2003 Standard. This one is far better machined and built than that one. The American had paint everywhere inside the cavities and the paint was thin. This guitar is very well made compared to it. I think when we see made in USA on the headstock it makes it better. Not true the Mexican model has more pride built in if you ask me.
I put a Gibson mini humbucker in the bridge position of my Buttercream Player’s Strat. It’s interesting, that’s for sure. One of my favorite guitars though.
Absolutely great review. I just bought the evh Wolfgang out of Mexico and I am very impressed by their workmanship. Honestly it's better than the Custom Shop one I paid $3,500. Today by complete coincidence I was pricing this very same Strat. Man, you answered all my questions I wanted to know about shielding, magnets, wiring, you-name-it, you answered it; thank you!
The Player series are great guitars but they are NOT a custom shop guitar. A custom shop is the best of the best. I have nothing bad to say about the Player series but if you really have both you know what the differences are. I know both very well and the Custom shop is on another level.
I have one like that I bought last summer, it was a sweetwater demo got a great deal on it mine came set up floating, frets did not need any work, the set up was the best out of box of any I’ve ever had love it
I use a pill bottle or some type of small cylinderical object to hild the loosened strings out of the way. It keeps tension on the strings and keeps them from getting in the way or moving around much. Sometimes even a slide works
Thanks Landon. I like that you buy them so you can call it as you see it. I watched a couple of videos by another Canadian guitar guy the other day and his review videos just seem like advertisements. He doesn't say that he was given the guitar (or payment) but it's obvious that's the case as he never points out 'cons'. (At least in the videos I watched.)
I bought identical model about same time as you. Mine had fret sprout that had to be filed down and finished. Also I had trouble keeping tune and eventually put on locking tuners. My factory setup seemed rushed and so I adjusted the neck 1/4 turn, lowered the bridge to factory spec, and lowered the string height at the bridge after installing new strings. That said, this thing sounds great and plays quite well. This is a lot of guitar for the money - I'm keeping this one.
My plastic nut was cracked out of the factory, I put a custom bone nut in it, decked the trem, polished all the frets and put locking tuners in it amazing guitar.
I subbed and liked. Great videos. Fender Strats are life! I have the HSS Floyd Rose Player series Strat in white with maple board. One of the best Strats I've ever had. My favorite of all was my 1999 HH Strat in white with black pick guard, 21 feet rosewood board. I wish I still had it. The player series I have is what I've always wished for in a hot rod Strat. So much that I built a single hum, single volume black pick guard loaded with a Seymour Duncan TB 6 Distortion and a Seymour Duncan 500k volume pot. Now I have my version of the VH 1 Strat without the black stripes. The Strat is an amazing blank canvas that you can play stock or turn into your own signature shredder.
Hi Landon I know it's been three years but I thought I'd add my thoughts. I bought a Player SSS on sale as my first Strat and love it, beautiful Plus Top, fantastic neck, flawless fit and finish and plays and sounds great! Like it so much I added a HSS a year later, then a year after that got a LE HSS on sale for a price I couldn't pass up. These are fantastic guitars, especially for what they cost (I wait for sale prices). On sale they are usually less than $200 more than a Squier CV and well worth it. I love the pickups and nothing needs upgraded, they are perfect right out of the box. Excellent review, thank you!
Recently sold my Squier classic vibe 60s and bought a Player Strat HSS 3 TS and a PF Fretboard. It's a great affordable guitar, i love the sound, the feeling and the playability. Overall quality is better than Squier. I swapped the white pickguard to a black one, looks great with white PUs and white tone knobs - a bit SRVish... ;-)
@@shaunw9270 yeah my tele is two colour burst , strats are olympic white and honey burst, i do love the antique olive as well. Candy apple red would also be awesome with a roasted maple neck
Excellent review. I was unaware of the shielding paint coming from the factory like that. Strats in 3-color burst are gorgeous. I like your comments on the weight being perfect. That makes it easier to play for long periods of time. I dig the balance of mine, which seems to be just like yours except for locking Fender tuners, a real bone nut, and we set the tremolo bar wa-wa so that it will only going down and not back when the bar is pulled back (just my style). We've found that it helps keep her in tune longer. She ain't a Tele and that is ok. Again, excellent review Landon!
Thanks for the video, are the frets rough running your hand down the neck, the one I got had rough frets had to have work done on it now its ok nice and smooth..
I really enjoy your reviews mate. I own the same model mim strat. Our whole family loves it. We are very happy with it. I’ll pass it down to my son and hopefully so on.
I got a 2019 model a few months back. It was new but had some terrible problems..some of which I fixed and some that my luthier is working on now. I bought the HSH version and that bridge humbucker really cranks. To answer your questions on the pots, they're the same as what Fender used for the American Standard, the frets are the same wire and the bridge is either an exact copy or it's an American bridge right down to the imperial set screws...they aren't metric. In all if you get a good one it's a great value. In my case it'll be a huge value...soon.
Hey Landon, thanks for your videos! About the tremolo -- it's not the same like on American Standard, it's from Taiwan OEM company. And it sounds really dull. I swapped it on my surf green Player strat to the modern Amercican Professional tremolo and got a tons of the sound improvements. Best upgrade I ever made, hehe.
Thanks for the video and review. I just ordered a Fender Player Strat Plus Top in Aged Cherry with a maple fretboard. I got the HSS version cause I already have a SSS strat. Picking it up this week from Guitar Center and can't wait!
I have a build I'm doing with a special edition 2010 Squier standard with an obsidian solderless blender harness. I'm looking for pickups on the cheap. Lost some work because of Covid. Was thinking about getting a set of player series pickups from Stratosphere. I also like the Tex Mex. I'm trying to balance is the player series pickups for $50 will satisfy. I didn't realize it until after watching this that the player series pickups output is identical to Byoguitar Heat wave pickup set. Literally identical. So this is what they modeled after. Lol.
One thing that would be fantastic would be a comparison between the player series strat and tele. When I was trying to purchase mine, I never found a video that compares both.
Nice review, Landon. Don't forget to use the tone control when demoing bridge pickup sounds. It can make the difference between a harsh thin ice pick tone and a smooth distorted tone.
I've got same guitar in Polar white have just fitted Fender locking tuners on and put small Fender spring inside whammy arm hole to stop it falling and feeling a bit more secure, don't really want to touch anything else as I love it the way it is now. Great video
It’s interesting...there seems to be no rhyme or reason to how trem springs are attached...some are parallel, while some are angled...btw...the back of that neck is awesome with that grain figuring!!!!
I would appreciate an explanation/reason for the pit cut in to the body, just below and between the middle & neck pick-ups. And it's green sticker. Please. Thank you I feel that I have learned from your video. Cheers SjB San Diego, Ca. USA.
It's just to hold the body in place on a machine at the factory. American Strats often have 2 of them. The process is the same but it's a different machine . Phil McKnight did a video on the differences between American & Mexican Stratocasters ages ago which he covers tooling marks etc , worth watching (and I rarely point anyone in McKnight's direction lol)👍
Great revue mines great, you mentioned the bridge trem block looking bigger well this sado weighed it and it’s the same as the American pro and looked the same the pups looked and sounded like US standard and full size pots the same. As for the pups I think in many situations the alnico’ pups sound clearer and more defined (ceramics can be a little muddy). Well thanks again for a great revue. One thing I did notice when mine was new the strings were a little bit jangling or buzzy but this settled down after a few weeks playing.
This is by far the best guitar I've ever owned. Seriously. I upgraded from a cheap Starcaster by Fender guitar that was made in china, and the jump from that to this guitar is huge. Mine is an HSS that's black and white with a maple neck, I wanted something more flexible for gain than just an SSS guitar, this guitar however meets those expectations. That and it just feels really nice to play, it doesn't feel too different from a 2015 American Strat that I tried at guitar center back in 2017, if anything I'd argue the feel is the exact same. Overall high quality guitar that's totally a bang for your buck, at least for the time being. Get them now while they're still under $1000 folks.
Love the Player series. I bought my son the exact guitar for Christmas 2 years ago and it is an excellent guitar. Only difference is that my son wanted a humbucker in the bridge. The prices have gone up on these Player series. Great video man. Thanks.
I'm glad to hear that you like it! My Black Fender Player with Pau Ferro (a nice dark PF btw) is one of the best guitars I've ever owned. The necks are so comfortable and.. perfect in my opinion so I wouldn't want it any other way. I have Squiers that are awesome but down the road, I think these Players just feels the best :)
My favorite is whatever colour that I have lol. I have 2 white strat styles:Pacifica and LTD. Ide have to say black, Im upgrading/restoring a black Peavy! Nice guitar Landon! PLAY GUITAR! YES, it was the body break line.
@@landonbailey Mine was maple neck 3-Color Sunburst same as your, neck looks like 1 piece maple like you said, but the seller said is not, is it 1 piece or not just wondering?
I can't get a good sound out of an sss strat bridge pickup so I bought an hss in Capri Orange. Much better. I'm also getting some good sounds from the much underused position 3.
Nice vid Landon. And thank you very much for turning off the background music when you are speaking. Much appreciated. Now I can finally hear what you have to say.
This really looks identical to the American standard strat around 2010. The only difference is the six screw bridge (two points on the American standard) and the trem block (slight slant trapesium shape on the American standard so you can dive the trem more deeper)
If the guitar stays in tune and you like it's setup, then leave the tremolo floating. Its odd that the specs say 'synchronized' trem and you get it floating. I also prefer the satin finished neck rather than gloss.
Is there a difference between Alnico and Fender Tex-Mex pickups? I'm kind of skeptical about the new generation. or isn't it better to buy an American Standard with Texas Special pickups?
13:25 killer tone I've got the pink with mint green pickgaurd sounds and plays just as good as many of the USA standards I've had some of the us models didn't play or sound as good as the mex only thing I'll change is the tunners cool axe though
From Leo: That player series may not be fancy, may not have much prestige, or a lot of up to date features, but it is still a viable instrument. There is something special about an instrument that you can take out of the box and just start playing.
Great and helpful video!! Is this a Sss or a Hss?? I want this exact one in hss, and i would like to change the pickguard to a gold turquoise with time :))) would really help to know if this is sss or hss? ❤

Nice 👍
AWESOME VIDEO! I'm thinking of this one - awesome looking - or the buttercream.
Good choice!
I just got a Strat like that one. Very cool so far. I've never had a guitar with a maple neck. I'm loving it man.
congrats!
Çok emek verilmiş bir video olmuş. Ellerinize sağlık

My favorite is whatever colour that I have lol. I have 2 white strat styles:Pacifica and LTD. Ide have to say black, Im upgrading/restoring a black Peavy! Nice guitar Landon! PLAY GUITAR! YES, it was the body break line.
I love it, must have one.
I’ve just got it today, love it.
congrats!
@@landonbailey Mine was maple neck 3-Color Sunburst same as your, neck looks like 1 piece maple like you said, but the seller said is not, is it 1 piece or not just wondering?
They are great value the only reason I went American performer was for the nut width. The MIM is slightly smaller compared to the Americans.
ah I did not know that! thanks
I can't get a good sound out of an sss strat bridge pickup so I bought an hss in Capri Orange. Much better. I'm also getting some good sounds from the much underused position 3.
ya do what works!
CTS pots, great guitars those player series, I have a tele I love. The strat will be my next player Fender.
Cool!
Great Review, After selling a CV HSS Strat a few weeks ago I'm looking for a SSS. Do you happen to know if the Vintera series is a better option?
cheers! I haven't tried a vintera
@@landonbailey tnx for the fast response. I'll check a guitar shop where they have both to compare.
I remember Body break commercials…. Haven’t thought about that in years
Nice vid Landon. And thank you very much for turning off the background music when you are speaking. Much appreciated.
Now I can finally hear what you have to say.
Noted!
Great guitar for the price and great colour.
Beautiful fret board.
I think so too!
Just bought one myself, QC seems better than the Standard Series that it replaces. Just a tweak on the action and intonation and ready to go.
great series for sure!
Such a beautiful beautiful guitar
cheers
Is there a difference between Alnico and Fender Tex-Mex pickups? I'm kind of skeptical about the new generation. or isn't it better to buy an American Standard with Texas Special pickups?
13:25 killer tone I've got the pink with mint green pickgaurd sounds and plays just as good as many of the USA standards I've had some of the us models didn't play or sound as good as the mex only thing I'll change is the tunners cool axe though
Good review as always Landon, thanks!
Thanks again!
From Leo: That player series may not be fancy, may not have much prestige, or a lot of up to date features, but it is still a viable instrument. There is something special about an instrument that you can take out of the box and just start playing.
Its not about prestige. Its about feel and tone.
After a good setup ... anyhows
Those look like CTS pots to me, I have used many in my builds and they look exactly like that.
Great and helpful video!! Is this a Sss or a Hss?? I want this exact one in hss, and i would like to change the pickguard to a gold turquoise with time :))) would really help to know if this is sss or hss? ❤
this is SSS but there is an HSS model too
@@landonbailey thank you for your answer ! Yes i know, i just asked to know if the sound is accurate to the model i chose (which is hss) :))
So beautiful 😍😍
Thank you! Cheers!
Not thing 😄😄❤️❤️
Great video, im a grunge, alternative player looking to pick one up in the next few weeks 😊😊❤❤
All good, just needs locking tuners, vintage strap buttons..!
