You seriously wouldn't believe this, I follow all your receipe while cooking my dishes as there are upto the mark and taste amazing by following your receipe step by step. Just 2 days back I was searching for the "Thor receipe" on your channel but wasn't able to get.. so I cooked according to other videos. But now I m highly satisfied that almost similar I cooked except in place of peanuts I used black chola. Hats off to your cutting ,cooking and presenting the exact steps.
When I was staying in Madras the vegetable vendors used to sell it on the streets. They have a variety of dishes in Tamil cuisine with Thor. They have gravy dishes with or without yoghurt, vadas and poriyals. It is so heartening to see how states separated thousands of kilometres can have similarities and differences.
PS I love my cosmopolitan upbringing at such times cos I have tasted a wide variety of cuisines from my childhood in Bengal, youth in Hyderabad and middle age in Bangalore.
Absolutely! Thor is used here in Thamizh cooking quite frequently. Kootu, poriyal, raita and even soup. And you are absolutely right, even though we are separated by language and distance, we are United when it comes to food!!
I saw ur recipie and gave it my own twist. I blended dried-coconut and ghee-toased groundnuts with some red chillies to into a delightful paste. Then I fried the potatoes, used cumin-powder and garam masala with Kashmiri mirch powder together and added hot water to make the slurry. As I fried the potatoes, I added all the masala and the thor, sauted them for a few minutes, then addded the coconut-badam chutney at the end. What came out was absolutely delicious. There is no word to describe how good it was...
When mom explain me these recipes over phone and I don't always understand few things like cleaning, cutting processes then I watch your videos. And after preparing these dishes I truly feel being in my home. These are the recipes made in every bengali home.
Loved the recipe - very different from how we make it in the Tamil style. A couple of things we do while prepping banana stem is to oil the hands lightly to prevent staining of hands and soak the sliced and chopped banana stem in buttermilk while the entire lot is being prepped in order to avoid darkening. I guess soaking in water also helps with the same thing. Another Bongeats recipe in my must-try folder :)
We have a variety of thor recipe. And I also put oil in my hand to avoid staining. The similar thing applied when cooking mocha (banana flower). Instead of buttermilk we use salt and turmeric diluted in water..
Every single time these videos pop up from you guys, it instantly transports me to wishing for and missing a darling friend's cooking (yes she's a brilliant Bengali lady who's a champion in the kitchen) ... LOVE IT!!!!
Instead of giving peanut please try out with 2 to 3 tablespoon of Gobindo bhog rice , fry the rice for 2 to 3 minutes in the oil then you pour the Thor on the pan, then add some water then cover it
I loved making this recipe, it was more niche than the one I ate as a kid. But it was so good, I am absolutely indebted to you guys for introducing me to this gorgeous recipe.
