This is my last recap of this show - I can't and don't want to do it anymore. To everyone who found me and stuck with me through it thank you. Let me know if you are sticking with the show. I gave up at episode 3. Adding 4 new characters to a show and still spending SO MUCH time with Carrie and her boring A plot... doing nothing... no drama

Everything the writers are giving us is like a f*ck you to the viewers… the shows producers have made their money because the series has been bought and paid for but the viewers who enjoyed the original series are being shafted… there were also episodes in the original series that left you shaking your head but this is beyond and there are not enough vile adjectives to describe this train wreck of a series.
As for Parker, Nixon and Davis, they are just prime examples of mutton dressed as lamb and the dressing fails on every level.

Miranda quit in the second movie to start her own firm and in season one of AJLT she quit again to go back to school

The first season was kinda fun because I was in disbelief at how something so bad could be allowed to ruin these characters.

Very well put! I completely agree...this season has been nothing but offensive garabge. Adult women leering over a teenage boy was disgusting but as a recovering alcoholic myself, everyone drinking in front of Miranda was the worst to me. These writers have absolutely no respect for ANYONE.

Ageism right there. I'm late 50s and have some fabulous friends late 60s and 70s. To think they are not worthy of written about or being friends with is insulting.
I just want to clarify, this was about Carrie and the over 70s magazine. I fully support Jenn not continuing to review to retain her sanity and mental health.
I highly recommend Sheila Hancock's books. She is over 90, and is a delight. I'm listening to the audiobook of Old Rage - the writers of AJLT need to do that, and hang their heads in shame at their ageism and sexism
My thoughts exactly! She is acting the same way as some younger women when they look down on older women. I am in my mid 40s and I thought it was very condescending. Can we not do to older women what society has been doing forever?!

I used to like MIranda. She seemed more grounded, more independent, and it was a nice twist that she was the first one to settle down, marry, have a child. Life is full of these unlikely twists. But now this? Why did Cynthia Nixon sell out like this?

They needed writers who could write for 50+ aged women. The writers needed to study the original series to see why it was so great. Its simple. The show wasnt about sex, it was about a group of friends. They needed to keep it that way instead of shoehorning in diversity. There are too many characters now. Charlotte and Miranda have become idiots. Carrie has no sparkle.
They let the actresses have too much input in their characters . They ruined them, and the effortless chemistry they had is gone.
Im all for a spin off handled by competent wtiters and producers starring Sam, Steve, Natasha, and Anthony.
I’m glad you mentioned Natasha. The one truly great scene of this total abomination, was Carrie and Natasha’s confrontation at the coffee shop. It was so tender and well-written and Bridget Moynahan played it beautifully ……and there in those few moments, we had a brief glimpse of what this show could have become. Pity.
EXACTLY. The whole original backbone of the show is that the women represented archetypes of urban single 30/40-something ladies...the immature flighty bohemian (Carrie), the driven career girl (Miranda), the wannabe Disney princess (Charlotte) and the swinging bachelorette (Samantha). It was all a commentary and reflection on the (then) contemporary dating world. The show was great because we could all relate to at least ONE of the girls and root for her. Now, they've completely forgotten who these women are. They all suck. We can't relate.
There would be no series without the stars. They got behind it and Sarah Jessica Parker came on as a producer, I believe. They needed all the girls to make it successful but they didn't get all the girls. That's what happens when you treat one of them like crap. They don't come back. But the coup of the phone call was genius. I think they are making a young Sex and the City. It will fail because you cannot remake something that was great, unique and so popular it became part of the culture. That's the thing with Hollywood. Hollywood is full of rolls and rolls of film of remakes of very popular movies and shows that bombed and got woke. You cannot even make what was in the original anymore. Most of it is considered offensive. So they come up with what we have now. The only way to save this show is to make it a Dallas dream. The last episode should close with Carrie opening the door to her home with Big and walking in to find him packing his luggage for their trip. He turns around and smiles at her and says, "Glad you're home." FADE TO BLACK.

In a way, it's kind of dazzling how much worse the trainwreck gets. First it went off the rails, then it crashed into a gasoline convoy, then it careened into a nuclear power plant... what's next, an alien invasion?
The only way they could save this show is to say it was all a bad dream, a nightmare that Carrie had! That she got covid, and had a high fever with hallucinations and Nightmares! LOL!!!

OMG, yes. I forgot about that. Once again, this show ignores what they've created in order to fit whatever storyline they want. Lazy. Then again, Miranda was devastated when Steve cheated on her in the first SATC movie and then cheated on him like it was completely fine.
This was supposed to be the 3rd movie .. already written with Samantha.. this series seams to have (because of that) been chopped and diced to edit Sams parts out … nothing connects no story line disappointing … I have moved on to “Glamorous “

I had trouble making it through the first three episodes, but E4?!? OMG. I almost turned it off during the Charlotte-Harry “yoga” exercise , which may be the single most humiliating scene ever filmed for a major “comedy” series; but in bed, with Che and Miranda, when I saw what was about to happen……

I think i am a masochist or maybe i loved this show so much back in the days and i am just nostalgic but i completely agree with you. This is a whole TRAINWRECK. Sacrifice this reboot already. Each episode is beyond painful and so not funny. The Miranda-Che storyline is so weird. Che is annoying af and mean and awful. And where is old Miranda? Who is this lapdog fangirl woman? You are so right about not caring about these people and you know who would agree with us? SAMANTHA JONES. She would be so annoyed by this mess.

Ironically, Che is such a negative representation of the LQBTQIA+ community. The writers have tried to “wake” us by creating a character we are forced to hate! They are literally doing harm to an entire community of people!!

The reason we’re all so disengaged in this show is because the female main characters are given NO substantial conflicts. None. Anything that could possibly be a conflict (is Che pulling back? Does Brady want his parents to get back together?) is almost immediately resolved.
Yeah and if there is conflict- they don’t talk about it- we don’t hear our friends Carrie/charlotte/Miranda thoughts on it like the almost threesome or Brady breakdown. It happens and we forget and move into the next random scene. Mix in some agism/ technology confusion and sex scenes and call it an episode cut! Pretty sure AI is writing it at this point. “Make it make sense!” At least the fashion is slightly better than last season.
@snowfoxxie Any time they discuss anything - it's usually just a blow by blow description of what we, the audience, were already shown in a previous scene. No new developments or insights just telling us what we already know. It's infuriating!!!

I love the original show and like the movies. I re-watched the series last year after AJLT came out but now.... it's going to take a while before I can revisit the original series.

Yes, Kristen Davis' face was another reason I only watched about 1/3 of the first show. It's SO creepy when it seems someone's face doesn't fit anymore.
She tried to keep herself younger but ended up making herself look older than all of them.

This is a brilliant move on your part. There is no reason to continue when the agenda is getting sicker and more perverse with every episode. I was so happy to see Steve is on a successful show called Chicago Fire, like i was soooo happy the actor may have had a short run on this garbage so he could get back to something people actually watch and enjoy. I only watch this garbage via Jen and the amazing Drag Dungeon you guys all make it entertaining and i am thrilled you watch and your breakdowns are hilarious FAR MORE entertaining than this shitshow you suffer through.

“And just like that”, as though they are witches who can snap their fingers or wiggle their noses and change the lives of everyone around them, without a care in the world.
This show isn’t even worth hate watching anymore. Totally don’t blame you. It’s like they’re shoving everything but the kitchen sink at viewers thinking we’d be satisfied just seeing these guest stars and wouldn’t notice the awful writing.
In an interview with SJP, she mentioned how fans have always made known their feelings about SATC and likened that to how fans are reacting to AJLT “It means they care”, she said.! Is this something she tells herself to save face, or is she really naive to how bad it truly is?! I think she’s in denial…and really likes $$ and working.
I’ll miss your recaps of this show (if I continue to torture myself by watching), but I’ll check out your Megan stuff, as, I’m nauseated by her bs, too.
She stated in a recent interview that she’s never read reviews, comments, fan opinions, etc. So if an assistant is telling her “SJP, people are sharing lots of opinions about this,” I can see her taking it as positive news and leaving it at that. 🙄

I’m sticking the series out until the end, even though it’s dire, and I hope it’ll get axed after this. I get why you don’t want to recap, and I wish there was at least something amusing we could get out of the hate-watching, but it’s like Steve’s mum eating old pizza out of the rubbish bin. It’s tragic. It’s disgusting. It’s beyond help now. Do not resuscitate.
I love your Anne Meara analogy, and nod to the series finale of SATC - a truly groundbreaking comedy series, one of the all-time best , whose memory is now being dismantled and destroyed by this grotesque farce of a show. Shame on you Michael Patrick King, and shame on you Sarah Jessica Parker. You two did not deserve to have your legacy destroyed, but you did it anyway.

I agree. The conversation they were having at the table about Harry's "party that didn't show up to the party" gave me original SATC vibes. I was also disappointed to see Che because I guess I assumed they had broken up in the last episode.
I don't blame you for ending your recaps of AJLT. I love that you included the infamous "I'm Sorry. I Can't. Don't Hate Me" line! How SJP can put her name on this is beyond me. Last year I hate-watched it and then told myself I wouldn't watch season 2. I gave in and tried to watch a couple but just couldn't. I love your recaps and a couple other TH-camrs who review this show but I feel it would be cruel of us to make you watch this any further. I'm bailing on it as well. Your time would be better spent reviewing old Golden Girls episodes - a show that is over 40 years old yet does a better job of portraying women over 50 than this garbage. Another show you might enjoy reviewing is "Minx". It was on HBO Max but then they canceled it and Starz picked it up. Season 2 should be debuting soon. IMHO It has a lot of the joy and sexual fun and frankness that SATC had and it's got strong writing, characters, and a clear point of view. Thanks for all of the laughs, Jen. I do hope you do the episode where Samantha shows up but no worries if you can't.

The thing I love about getting older is being able to not care as much about what others think of me and for standing up for what I believe in and want. I think that’s what angered me so much about this episode. Carrie, once again, let herself get used and gave the money even without getting a guarantee of having her book reviewed in the new magazine. I would’ve loved to see Charlotte get excited about the thought of returning to work. And I would’ve liked for Miranda to say, “That’s it,” and realize she wants more for herself when she realized her new love wasn’t quite over her Ex. Also, I’m sorry, I can’t stand her kid. He’s so selfish! Makes me glad I didn’t have them. And I miss the kindness of Steve. Here, they just make him into someone who doesn’t have any kind of opinions. I guess I’m a glutton for punishment, and will still watch the next episode in hopes that things get better. But they probably won’t.
What’s super sad is that when Carrie met Enid her spark was right there intact proving that the misery of this show comes from the poor writing. CHE is the worst character in TV history and that character is responsible for ruining Carrie from the get go. THEY made her old when she’s not by sticking her in that awful podcast when she could have continued being the great writer she is. That podcast brought nothing and made her older than she is. Also the death of Big was a mistake. They need to bring a new BIG!!! A great love interest and NOT Aidan!!!

I did read an article recapping this episode, and I must say that 1. At least Brady tried to call Miranda out on her bullshit. 2. I can't believe they've dragged Billy Dee Williams into this schlocky load of pants.

As it relates to Miranda blowing her family up, one of the first things they tell you when beginning a 12 step program is to NOT start any new romantic relationships because, your emotions are all over the place. Hence, if is the worst time to make major life decisions outside of getting and staying sober.
Oh my goodness, you're right! They even had an episode of SATC that addressed this when Carrie dated a recovering alcoholic. She pushed him to go out with her even though it hadn't been a year and it messed him up bad. And now they've got Miranda doing the same thing.
What cracked me up was when they dragged out 90 year old Gloria Steinem for this episode, I mean really, how bad do they need her?? It’s like watching a train wreck.
All I could think of was "Glo" being such "good friends" with Meghan! Is "AJLT" the type of "romcom" she wanted Archewell to produce? If so, God help us.
I think the only way to save this is for Miranda to wake up and beg to go back to Steve, the writers need to get on bended knee to get Samantha back, have a meaningful memorial for Stanford and then wrap it up and never speak of it again 😂 I haven’t even looked at this season which is so sad because I loved the satc franchise, also why kill off Big? Sad sad sad.
They had to get rid of him (even before they knew of the actor's behaviour) That marriage was never going to last (it was Big 's 3rd for crying out loud) They just wimped out and didn't have him divorce Carrie's dumb ass and leave her penniless

I had such high hopes for this show . In all the , post pandemic , the war , cost of living , I needed salvation . The initial fashion stills they launched on Insta gave me hope they were taking it back to its roots ,..well I was MORE than wrong 😢 When I caught the first episode I actually thought it was a repeat from the last series ,...then to my HORROR I realised THIS is It 😮😳 So depressing , I wanted hope , positivity , inspiration ,.. NOPE !! I will give some more episodes a go ,..but it just makes me realised just how ABSOLUTELY FUCKING FABULOUS the original show truly was in its times 🙏🙏❤️
I find this reboot does not diminish the original. In fact, it makes it even more precious and more of an escape.

That post it was written when Sex and the City was good. Though have to say I though Berger was a real sleeper. I don’t much like the actor but it was coupled with the character being a huge bore. Even worse than the jazz club guy.

AJLT needs extreme plot twist to be saved. What if in the next episode Carrie will find out that Big faked his own death because he couldn't stand Carrie's friends anymore and now he lives on Bahama with his 20 something years old mistress. How could he do that to her? The man she loved, the man that left her at altar once, it was totally out of his character. Carrie is shocked, Miranda screams OH MY GOWD and Charlotte's face gets paralyzed.

Watching some of your recaps of this abortion assured me I was way better off following my instincts that this show was going to be a heartbreaking experience for any true fan and my best bet was to pretend it doesn’t exist.
