Very nice! I Miss having fresh eggs from my grandpas farm! He had around 250 chickens and sold eggs in town every Thursday. Known as the "egg man" for many years
Just want to take time out to say thank you... i too have a small farm... fun to see others doing similar things... cool farm, love and hard work shows...
Hey, thanks for providing the link and it is interesting how the breed was developed overseas yet they chose to call it Australian. Possibly because of the Australian duck being used and with that duck possibly being the Black Pacific Duck. I say this is the one for they look like female Mullards and it's the only one that readily breeds with exotic species. The fact we don't have the Australian Spotted Duck is mainly because importing of birds is banned and I'd say it's the main reason why it's not in Australia. Once again, thanks for the channel and the link!!
I have another video coming out this evening that shows a new coop build. It was kinda done in a hurry due to circumstance, but it turned out pretty good :)
I often wonder how someone else who has seen my operation unfold feels/thinks about it. For me it's like watching a kid grow... you don't get a good feel for it until you compare the child to a younger child or old photos and videos.
It doesn't feel like much because we've just adjusted with it as it goes, but whenever someone asks me "how many birds do you have?"... I chuckle because the number is alarming to some people.
Really it's not that hard. It can be time consuming when it's time to clean the coops and all, but mostly it's just keeping up with the rotation about who is free ranging and on what day. We normally don't free range them all at the same time.
I have a question about the Chicken run @ 4:3. Are the 4x4 posts dug down into the ground, or are they just attached by th 2x4 runners? Thanks for the help
+Lee Ralph (Pathway to Self Reliance) Those 4x4s on the chicken run are not buried into the ground. They sit on top of the ground with the 2 2x6s on both side. This method of construction has worked well for me on a few jobs.
I wish I were off the grid! LOL ... You are the second person in the last few days to ask that. I will need to do a video to tell a story, but basically I just had a desire to live in the country and try to grow some food. The property came with a dozen hens.... so that jump started our chicken operation :)
April was given to us. She wandered onto some property of a friend as a very young goose. She still had down feathers on her neck. She was all alone. We are not sure what breed she is.
Hey Blake, really enjoy watching your videos and this one is no exception, but at 9:41 I found myself scratching my head, Australian spotted ducks? We have no Australian spotted ducks in Australia so it would be interesting to know how the ducks got the name???
Mostly we get eggs. We have plenty of eggs for our own use and we get to sell a few as well. The meat chickens are harvested and put in the freezer for our own use.
My "Big Red" isn't aggressive. I don't know if it is because of the breed or we just got lucky. I see no reason why you couldn't keep one with your hens.
We feed the chickens pumpkin seeds every Fall and several times throughout the year we will add Diatomaceous Earth (DE) to their feed. We have never used any chemical worming solution.
trying this method. I did de worm once with the store bought stuff...I think they needed it, but for prevention I will be doing the natural way. Cool video
We love the duck eggs. We have some people that buy them from us. One person is allergic to chicken eggs but can tolerate the duck eggs. She says the eggs from the Australian Spotted ducks tastes better than the others.
MARCIA COX A few times I have, but mostly no. There is a purple salve that you can get at the feed store to put on the affected chickens. This will help stop the picking.
I understand. I do butcher chickens, but it's not my favorite part of my small farm. I don't like to butcher the roosters really because I'd rather see them be the commander of their own flock somewhere. However it is hard to find homes for them. I've had some calls for them but several have sounded like people that want to fight them. I can't let them go to people like that for sure.
Ugh, that is ridiculous! People are bad. Violence...people these days seem to thrive on it. Too much stupid TV. That is why I get along with animals better than most people. LOL. Well, good luck with your roosters, and I am thinking I may have to be stuck with mine for now. =)
Nice poultry operation. Now I’m getting good ideas. Thanks Daddy Kirbs 👍🏻👍🏻😎
I dont even have chickens or ducks and I enjoyed your video very much..
so 15 mins, it was not too long , it was just right..
thanks
wow that's one bad ass addition on addition coop.Looks like a hotel for animals lol
5 stars!
I had a Chinese Goose for 19 1/2 years he was such a wonder full pet.
+Marie Sheppard Good memories :)
Very nice! I Miss having fresh eggs from my grandpas farm! He had around 250 chickens and sold eggs in town every Thursday. Known as the "egg man" for many years
I'd love to have a regular egg business when I someday get things in order. We do have a few regular customers now, but we can't keep up big demand.
i like your coop set ups...plenty of space for chickens to roam around...just subscribed.
Just want to take time out to say thank you... i too have a small farm... fun to see others doing similar things... cool farm, love and hard work shows...

So sorry about Bella. The Silkie Chickens are very cute. Nice big flock of birds you have there!
Thanks :)
nice little set up. I lost a beauty partridge silkie rooster last fall. He was just so calm and friendly. Cheers!!
Thank you for the tour, it was enjoyable. I love learning and seeing your architectural ideas and designs. Good job I think.
I have another video coming out this evening that shows a new coop build. It was kinda done in a hurry due to circumstance, but it turned out pretty good :)
@@daddykirbs Do you still have LemonDrop still and how is she doing.
@@amyisfansofundertakerandka5991 Lemondrop had a pretty good long life on the farm, but did pass away a couple years ago.
Thank you for the tour. I really like your set up!
You are welcome. I'm glad you like it. I hope someone can get some ideas from it.
nice set up and it's still evolving ? a few of your ducks look like mallard's to me :) sillkies the walking feather dusters. thanks for sharing
Both the Rouen ducks and the Australian Spotted ducks look similar to Mallard ducks.
Your birds are beautiful Blake! I've been following you since the start and BOY!!! You've been busy my friend :)
I often wonder how someone else who has seen my operation unfold feels/thinks about it. For me it's like watching a kid grow... you don't get a good feel for it until you compare the child to a younger child or old photos and videos.
Well I can tell you, it has GROWN :)
***** ... still in toddler stages my friend :)
Love the coop setup!
Very nice set up!
Goose photobomb was awesome!
Subscribed. Really liked seeing your operation. Good work!
+Joseph Lynn Thanks for joining me here! I'm glad you like what is going on here on the farm. Do you have chickens?
+Blake “Daddykirbs” Kirby I'm currently in the "research" phase while building the coop. It's how I stumbled upon your channel.
Joseph Lynn Ask questions! If I can't answer them someone else in this wonderful community will.
*Hi April.* - What a diverse poultry operation you have there Sir!
It doesn't feel like much because we've just adjusted with it as it goes, but whenever someone asks me "how many birds do you have?"... I chuckle because the number is alarming to some people.
Great set up there Blake..
Love the cameo by the goose 1/3ed of the way through :D
Cheers mate :)
April is a funny goose.
I love geese! We had two when I was a little girl.
love your set up ! it is my dream to have a farm like your .loving it keep up the good work god bless.
Thanks! I do hope you can achieve your dream.
Great tour,
Whit
Great poultry setup you have there Blake!
It's getting better :)
Sorry about Bella. She looked like a good mama to the little hatchlings. Those runner ducks are cool, well...actually all the birds are cool.
Bella was the BEST broody hen ever. We will miss her greatly. Runners are so fun to watch. We might breed some of those soon.
Lord of the Birds. Holy cow!
You have a really nice little farm.
Really it's not that hard. It can be time consuming when it's time to clean the coops and all, but mostly it's just keeping up with the rotation about who is free ranging and on what day. We normally don't free range them all at the same time.
It's a work in progress, but it's shaping up :) Thanks!
Better than flies right?
love your video i have chickens and duckes and mini horses
I have a question about the Chicken run @ 4:3. Are the 4x4 posts dug down into the ground, or are they just attached by th 2x4 runners?

Awesome , great job on everything .
Not sure if you ever been ask this , but what made u decide to move out there and pretty much live off the grid
I wish I were off the grid! LOL ... You are the second person in the last few days to ask that. I will need to do a video to tell a story, but basically I just had a desire to live in the country and try to grow some food. Great video, I love your birds! What breed of goose is April?
April was given to us. She wandered onto some property of a friend as a very young goose. She still had down feathers on her neck. She was all alone. We are not sure what breed she is.
Hey Blake, really enjoy watching your videos and this one is no exception, but at 9:41 I found myself scratching my head, Australian spotted ducks?
We have no Australian spotted ducks in Australia so it would be interesting to know how the ducks got the name???
And Australian Shepherds aren't from Australia either.
How much for your roster
How do you keep predators out?
how much for the rhode island red rooster
Do you eat you animals and if you do how do you choose?
i find it funny that the goose wants to photo bomb
Blake everything looks great ! So I am wondering what do you do with all of the food from your animals ?
Mostly we get eggs. We have plenty of eggs for our own use and we get to sell a few as well. The meat chickens are harvested and put in the freezer for our own use.
What do you get from the goats ?
***** a hard time.
lol I bet they make some great fertilizer too lol
***** They do add to my compost pile that I have in the chicken/goat run.
Do you have an owl at the top of your coop? does that help to keep predators away?
I some chicken in my back yard, so hawks are around trying to attack them. I don't know to to protec them when they are out, they love to be out
Are freedom/red rangers roosters aggresive? Can i keep one of them with my dual purpose hens?
My "Big Red" isn't aggressive. I don't know if it is because of the breed or we just got lucky. I see no reason why you couldn't keep one with your hens.
Blake Kirby Thanks!
I would really like to know how often you deworn? with what ? or if you even deworm thank you !
Cool video
Very nice video. I've never known anyone that raises ducks. What do you use them for? Do you eat the duck eggs?
I've never eaten them but I have been told that duck eggs are outstanding to eat.
Hmm, maybe I should have made a larger koi pond.
Oh boy, don't let the ducks in the decorative ponds! LOL they can make a mess fast.
We love the duck eggs. We have some people that buy them from us. One person is allergic to chicken eggs but can tolerate the duck eggs. She says the eggs from the Australian Spotted ducks tastes better than the others.
Yes, we eat the duck eggs. They are fantastic for baking since they have a higher fat content.
Do you have trouble with chickens picking on the backs and backsides of each other?
MARCIA COX A few times I have, but mostly no. There is a purple salve that you can get at the feed store to put on the affected chickens. This will help stop the picking.
I have some thanks for info.
nice video and how many acres do you have
a litte over 5 acres.
😍😛😚😘😙😋
I bet he came from Murray McMurray
jos
I'm trying to find homes for my roosters too, but nobody wants naughty roosters. Not sure what to do with them. I don't have the heart to kill them.
I understand. I do butcher chickens, but it's not my favorite part of my small farm.
