Germany's Wacken Open Air halts admissions after persistent rain turns site to mud

The weather takes the shine off the largest metal music festival in the world, as the Wacken Open Air festival was forced to limit admissions because heavy rain turned the ground to mud.

I live very close to Wacken. This current weather is unusual even here in northern Germany. We are quite used to rain and cool temperatures, but this summer is one of the worst summers in the last 30 years. Even by Northern German standards, the weather is not normal. 170 litres of rain fell in July and the temperature is even slightly below average. We haven't had summer weather since the end of June. At no time have we had problems with drought or heat. Because it rains almost every day, the farmers cannot harvest the grains. There is a threat of crop failure.

Iam back at home and just came from Wacken. Sleeping Bag and tent are a total los due to mud and rain, also my camping chair. Had no more dry clothes and i also afraid that the general leaving will be the next big desaster, because the ground is still wet and i didnt see any prepartions to make the way clear for all the leaving cars. The big heros of this mess are, in my personal oppinon, the people who live there. They brought us coffee and tea in the traffic jam, tryed to cheer us up and let you on private toiletts, while there was no sing of help from official partys.

I watched the band 'Beyond the Black' on Wacken livestream yesterday. I don't know, maybe I was watching some pre-recorded stuff. I'm a new fan. They were amazing! 🤘🎶💫

Ouch,never heard but the name is beyond corny.. But that's most of Metal bands of today,as all the good names have been used in the 80's,90's & 00's.
If you like their music then the name don't mean shit.. Rock it like there's no tomorrow..!

Just heard from my girl there....I asked "did you remember to pack your wellies?" She replied "yes....but atm I'm not wearing them as I'm holed up in our hotel and we're having a party!"..... that's what you gotta do just make the best of it. She's not long back from Hellfest in France.... which she said was stupendous....this is her first time at Wacken ...such a shame for them all, but hey they'll just party on regardless by the looks of things and I say Good on 'em!!!! ❤ to them all!

Eben. Wir waren Dienstag da, sind glücklicherweise gut auf den Platz gekommen und haben ein WOA erlebt, das zwar unter sehr widrigen Umständen und mit weniger Leuten stattfand aber JEDER der da war hat ganz viele Geschichten zu erzählen und wird diese Schlammschlacht nie vergessen.
