- What are the tonsils and when is a sore throat more than just a sore throat? Watch this video to find out more about tonsillitis symptoms, causes, and treatments.
We might associate thoughts of tonsillitis with images of characters from movies and shows in the hospital, but tonsillitis doesn't always mean you need to get your tonsils removed. If you get a tonsillitis diagnosis, it just means that your tonsils, located at the back of your throat, are swollen. If you have tonsillitis, look out for a sore throat and pain when swallowing, especially when accompanied by a fever, headache, swollen glands in the neck, or feeling unwell.
A sore throat doesn't always need treatment and can go away by itself. However, if you're having trouble breathing, or severe trouble swallowing, you should schedule an appointment with a Babylon doctor to discuss treatment options. Tumeric with little black pepper for warm gargles rinses at least 3x a day. Tumeric is an anti inflammatory
Hang in there y’all, hot tea works wonders. Cough expectorant also helps eliminate the pain sometimes, and Motrin. You’re doing amazing, and your body is already working to ride you of discomfort you’re feeling💕

@@tausifalsiam1389 for me, I could always eat normal foods if I drank a cup of hot tea beforehand or some Motrin, but normally about 6-7 days until I was totally back to normal.

I've dealt with the pain for like 4-5 days before getting antibiotics and I thought I would go insane from it. I couldn't swallow my own spit, couldn't sleep, drink or eat because of how much it hurt. Two days after I started the treatment the pain started to fade, I would honestly rather break my hand than go through that again. My tonsillitis, tooth ache and ear infections were hell, anything in the head area is unbearable

It’s my 3rd day having tonsillitis and the only remaining symptom is swollen tonsils and honestly I think I’m lucky to have Gotten over it so qiuck but even though I’ve still got a sore throat I’m happy that the fevers gone you’ll know wen ur fevers going bc you’ll have a rlly big puking session

I did! I had to take antibiotics for 10 days. Turmeric and Salt gargles really helped with soothing and making them smaller!

I couldn't swallow my own spit from day one I got it. Had to spit in a cup next to the bed. I couldn't get any food nor water to give me energy. The pain just trying to swallow was beyond what I could explain. I passed out when I tried eating some soup.
So I ended up in intensive care for 5 days. Day 3 two specialists came in with sedative that dentists use and they asked me to just let it get back down my throat as much as possible. Within 20 minutes I couldn't feel anything in my mouth, it was all numb. So then they gave me hard bread to eat and guess what, the bread cut up the blisters and I started spitting out blood with yellow chunks. That was their secret plan all along.
I pray for anyone that has to go through what happened to me.

Hi everyone, I had tonsillitis in January and I recommend taking ibuprofen to help ease the pain when swallowing as well as to ease swelling. Also, the doctor gave me amoxicillin, which cured it in days. You will find that you have a greatly increased appetite while recovering. This is normal because your body expends a lot of calories to deal with this. Goodluck folks, there is light at the end of the tunnel I promise.
I lay here in my bed unable to sleep because of the pain. Currently on my first day of antibiotics after having this a week and I thank you for you uplifting comment.
@@loshay5638 omg I'm so sorry, yeah try ibuprofen, tons of tea but now that you have the medicine, hopefully it'll act fast like it did for mine. Literally was so swollen I couldn't see down my throat, but all better now.

@@tausifalsiam1389 it took me about 3 weeks to start eating normal again, but I was able to eat soft foods like banana, soups, smoothies and yogurt. It doesn’t hurt as bad eating those, it will hurt around the first few days you have it and maybe a little later on as well but after that it should start getting slowly easier. The most pain that I noticed was probably swallowing saliva. I recommend warm water with lemon and honey, it really soothes the throat and doesn’t hurt much. My pain was really bad but that’s probably because I was eating hard foods, because I didn’t know I had tonsillitis.
I didn’t have the severe pain that people have talked about, mostly felt like they were just scratchy. White spots on my tonsils, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue. I didn’t have a fever, and my strep test was negative. They put me on antibiotics and my tonsils are already looking better.

I feel blessed by the gods bc I’ve had multiple dangerous virus’s such as swine flu. And scarlet fever but when you have tonsillitis because of the flu that’s when it becomes very painful but luckily this time around I’m on my 3rd day of having tonsillitis but my symptoms of a fever have gone so now it’s just one remaining swollen tonsill, wish me luck that if finishes it’s strangely fast recovery tomorrow 🙂

I had this 3 weeks ago, I was eating salt and salt water for 5 days with no food and let me tell u......when I was better I drank a whole 4L of cold water, everytime I drink water I think of the pain and how much it sucked, I say a lil prayer before I drink water.
But the after shock to the story is the wifi was out all week, probably the worst week I had b in 5 years 😅

Everyone going through dis shii I WISH U GUYS SUM PATIENCE, I jus came out of the hospital they made slices onto my tonsils and it worked phenomenally I can enjoy drinking water and my own saliva I’m getting my tonsils removed next week wish the best for y’all all
I would rather get Covid than go through this again. I’ve had shivers all night keep having to change my clothes. Every symptom under the sun - from not being able to smell to not being able to swallow. I ended up in emergency A&E and they straight away diagnosed me with tonsillitis and prescribed me antibiotics. I’m allergic to penicillin so taking clarithromycin. The worst part is my runny nose I’ve gone through 6 toilet rolls. I thought I would need a day off work but here I am day 2 with slight improvement from the meds. Best of luck to anyone with this please go to the doctor!

I have this now and the knife stabbing pain when swallowing is unbearable along with the jaw and ear pain. I went to the ER earlier because I was over it and I was severely dehydrated because I couldn’t drink water. They gave me 3 liters of fluids and added something to take the pain away and in about an hour, I could swallow with no pain. I could’ve cried lol I just badly wanted to drink water. Don’t let your doctor only offer you antibiotics! They can relieve the pain. I have everything in my charts they put in my IV if anyone needs to know.

I had two serious case of tonsillitis last year(I had all the symptoms you could imagine associated with it. Stiff neck, headache,fever,difficulty swallowing, difficulty speaking, etc. And it keeps coming back so many times but not as serious as the ones last year. Is there like a surgery or medication one has to take to finally stop it for real this time?!
The surgery for the removal of the tonsil is called tonsillectomy

i have had this for about 5 days, and honestly it hasnt gotten better. but i will say i have been sleeping about 12-16 hours a day to keep my mind off of it. i take sleep pills before i go to beed, and about 2-3 tylenol or asprin every 3-5 hours and it works well to take some of the pain away. but it is still awful, one of the worst pains of my life

I think mine started after poking through one tonsil to get the stones out. The area surrounding it got irritated. Idk if there’s more stuck inside. I’m just not confident to press or poke through it deeper.

This pain is unbearable. Just got sick with tonsillitis for the first time and I'd rather get a cold that suffer this immense pain when swallowing. I'm drowning myself with teas and soups. Its easier to drink hot liquids than room temp drinks. I try forcing myself to drink room temp juice and it hurts so much that I make a weird face movement to swallow and it ends up going up my nose.. I tried gargling salt and warm water, didn't work. My mom suggested gargling hydrogen peroxide and one of my tonsils are back to normal. I've tried doing throat & neck massages to alleviate the pain and still, today day 5 my right tonsil still hurts. 🤢

I’m on day 3 - I noticed it Wednesday morning and by night I had flue like symptoms until Friday. I took one ibuprofen every 4 hours and it helped a lot with the pain. I’ve been gargling salt water every hour or so & even got a humidifier because my throat was dry (assuming from my heater). I keep an empty cup to spit in because swallowing my own saliva is hell. I bought colloidal silver and I’m hoping it does something. I have a Dr appt today and I’m hoping to get some antibiotics 🥲 in the meantime I’m trying to stay hydrated and have drank a liquid IV. I’ve been eating pho broth for the last 2 days as well. I don’t wish this pain on anyone!

What are some good foods to eat when one has tonsilitis?
bananas, chicken noodle soup, yogurt, that’s all I ate when I had it and I didn’t really feel pain while swallowing.

Yep, I’ve been using salt water and it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Also Tylenol helps for pain and breathing in some steam helps soothe the throat because it needs moisture

Hello sir,I am having chronic tonsillitis for the last 5 months
Symptoms included-tonsil stones,lumps behind tonsils,lymph nodes under the jaw but no pain and when ever I drink something cold another appears in that area
And recently another appears near the old one which is located just under the jaw
Is it all ok? Please reply!! 🙏🙏🙏

Guys I was having tonsillitis and after one day I'm feeling better now.
Whatever I did I'm mentioning here:
1. Warm milk, turmeric powder, ginger powder and some sugar.
2. Gargel with warm water and salt.
3. Take a piece of cloth and heat it up and place it on your neck.
4. Have fluids especially hot ones like Soup, tea, coffee.
5. Lemon, salt and warm water.
6. Have paracetamol to act as a painkiller.
7. Have antibiotics.
8. With your thumb press the area of tonsillitis. (It's an exercise)
9. Have cinnamon, giner drink.
10. Have ginger tea.
Try all these and if it's not cured after 7days then do consult a doctor. :)
Is it just me or does swallowing not hurt but when I move my head and neck, it hurts like hell. I don't know whats happening. Also touching tonsils from the outside of throat hurts
Yes, turning my head hurts my neck and barely touching my neck hurts!! That's totally a thing! I hope you have fully recovered by now. Stay healthy!

I have slight pain when swallowing, my ears moderately have pressure and it looks like I have two sets of tonsils on each side of my throat(Normal tonsils on top and big knots below them). I haven’t ate in 3 days because food particles feel it doesn’t go down properly.

First 2 days I ate soft foods like soup and yogurt basically forced myself to eat even drinking liquids was painful!
I was better by the 3rd day not as swollen or painful and by the 4-5 day it was gone. I didn’t take any medicine for it either I just waited it out.
Please I need help I have not been able to sleep properly or eat anything for nearly 3 days I have a fever which goes up to 39 degrees Celsius and acreages at 38. Every time I swallow my saliva it feels like I am swallowing rocks I don’t know what to do.
Hello everyone I just want first say anyone that going through this your not alone my very first tonsillitis was about a week ago and I’m 28yr old I never had this nor was even aware of the server side effects it gives you I couldn’t swallow my own spit I couldn’t eat drink chew barley wanted to talk throat felt like something was clogged I’m it I was so close to go to the ER I just didn’t want to be sitting waiting but I took matter into my own hands and started googling none alcohol mouthwash I was drink lots of tea like Turmeric tea ginger tea I also would warm some water up as hot as you can tolerate and also our turmeric & ginger powder I also was trying to get plenty of rest because for some reason making feel tired (weird ) I guess because your body is fighting it less energy. I didn’t eat much during the first 2-3 days but I would pop a pain pills so I could get liquids down. Hopefully this helps someone awe so eventually I started to cough up the white piece that was on my tonsils and I’m glad to say I’m about 70% back to normal geezzz I don’t want to ever go back there it it’s the worstttttttttt
Hey Melissa, I’m on day 3 and I no longer see the white stuff on my tonsils but they’re still very swollen - how long did it take for the swelling to go down?

Covid, strep and mono tests came back negative so I think I have this. I’ve only had it for 2 1/2 days and I can’t imagine going through this any longer because I literally want to die, this is the worst pain I have ever felt. Everything I’m doing works in the moment but the pain comes back immediately after so can I just have them cut out my tonsils and call it a day please and thank you
Its hard for me to swallow at first, I drink lots of water then a week ago it did not hurt at all but my tonsils are still swollen. Its so weird why???

Depends if it's viral or bacterial. If it's viral you kind of just have to sit it out. If it's bacterial, antibiotics can get rid of it

i’ve had this for 3 days now and these have been the worst 3 days of my life. i wake up drooling all over my pillows because i can’t swallow. can hardly drink or eat anything for the last 48hrs. been collecting spit in a cup 🙄 any home remedies before i resort to ripping them off myself
I think the worst part is the swallowing, the earaches, and the trouble breathing. It’s been making it hard to sleep

At first it was just when I swallow but now the pain is constant and in my ears. I keep throwing up from how much it hurts. I can't keep pills down I think I need to go to the er

Im not hurting, but i got white spots on my tonsils and i actually spit one out some how. I feel tingly feelings in my jaw but no where else. Dosent hurt if anything im concerned about it look bad cuz like wtf is white shit doing in my mouth. Its going away though which is cool
