Yes! It took me a short while to figure out Amos' thought process on that. Something like: "Ok, so you used to be prepared to kill me, but now we have each others' backs. So that means you can be cool with Peaches too, right?". The hilarity was that Amos just wanted to confirm the first part and then *assumed* the second. I was laughing until the camera lingered a little too long on Holden and realised the general form of what was coming next.
Dominique Tipper fucking NAILED IT in these last 4 episodes, hats off to her acting (no disrespect to the other actors and writers, I love them all, I just think she did a phenomenal job).
She deserves an Emmy for her work this season. And how she was able to convey everything in her scenes, over the past few episodes, with minimal lines. Absolute Masterclass of the "show, don't tell" concept.
Yes indeed!! She is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors!! Every season she made me cry, and this season I was balling almost every episode due to her extraordinary talents!! Can’t wait for next season.
For me, Drummer was just biding her time to disrupt Marco’s plans from the moment her crew was forced into joining him. Her simmering rage was written all over her face from that moment forward.
Indeed, Marco kicker her in the teeth to many times. I think she could have let it slide but the attempted killing of Naomi was the last straw. And Sure she loved her family; but theres only so much someone, especially like Drummer would take before doing something regardless of personal cost.
I disagree, I feel the seething rage of Drummer in the previous episodes was indicative of the cognitive dissonance she was experiencing knowing that she was being forced into a position that went against everything she stands for. Her anger at Marcos was in balance with her fear for her crew member and also for all of her family. But she does actually finally make a decision in episode 10 in the moment she shoots; in that moment she finally experiences clarity because when faced with destroying the Roci - which made no sense given Marcos larger plan (as she notes at one point) - she understood that Holden and the Roci were something Marcos actually fears and that saving them was the one thing she could do that was true to her values and ethics. in doing so she was not only killing the member of her family that was a hostage, but she was endangering everyone else she loved. She does so because she knows that Holden and the Roci may be the key to truly bringing down Marcos in the long run.
That scene when Bobbie rescued Naomi was perfect. Lived from the perspective of Naomi, with a wonderful interpretation from Dominic Tipper, and the sound of Bobbie behind her, as if I could physically feel her in my back. My absolute favorite scene of The Expanse, congratulations to the whole crew for this amazing season !
Why is the Expanse the best hard scfi in the world??? Acting, writing, directing, production, casting.... effects, props, world building.... A story for this century.... Dominique deserves an award !!!! The show deserves all the awards in scfi !!!!
I watched a Star Trek Discovery a couple of days after watching this episode and it was just so full of 'magic science' that I couldn't take it seriously.
and they emasculated her in this season if it makes any sence, she was so vanilla compared to her self in previous seasons, he would have fired instantly if she were the Camina of the season before, i hope this was due to the stupidity of alex's actor and that the show had to be reshot and rewriten, i hope the quality goes up again next season, because this one they did a deservice to the awesome characters they already made, and just for the did of one person..... the hell???
@@gerardovelazquez724 Nothing was rewritten and reshot as everything was already written AND shot by the time this linching started. That being said I also agree that Alex deserved a better way to go, especially since the writters have said a couple days ago that they have been talking about killing off a major character for some time now, because drama. Personally I would want everyone to live, but I don't have a say in this.
Steven saying this was his favourite season is so selfless, as he's hardly in it to be fair. What a great mentality to have. "The show comes first". Also, on Wes saying about needing to have criticism, well I do have some. The seasons need to be longer in episode count as 10 just isn't enough, which is evidenced by the pod cast a few weeks ago, where you mentioned important 'off screen' conversations taking place between characters.
I would say they are pretty perfect for episode numbers. I think that's one of the failings of the Marvel series' on Netflix. They ran them too long and it got bogged down with stuff that just was filler. The best series I've seen to date are right around the 8-10 mark. Except for GoT. S8 was a fucking joke.
If you’re a reader, look for The Gap Sequence, a sci-fi series by another writer, Stephen Donaldson. It’s a critical contribution to the process that The Expanse writer evolved with to produce his stories. Many of the characters have versions of themselves in each author’s works. Some are better than The Expanse versions of them. Especially Angus Thermopylae (Amos), and Nick Succurso (Marco Inarus)
Dominique Tipper was absolutely outstanding in her performance throughout the last 2 episodes leading to this. So believable, emotional. It’s was incredible. I was getting out of breath with her! So well done.
If Dominique Tipper was starring in a movie, she would be nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Season 5. She is a magnificent actress. I felt so moved by her performance. Wonderful.
From the moment that guy decided put his life in Marco's hands, he was already dead lol. It was just a matter of time. I'm pretty sure Drummer and most of her crew knew that. But half of them were in denial.
Exactly. They were hoping beyond hope for a way out. All the while they had to know this could only end in some death, they were always Marco’s prisoners. Sux the serg went with Marco rather than the guy that help Drummer back.
@@OceanHedgehog absolutely, the belters have a valid grievance. Drummer has the advantage of having been involved in other means of trying to get the inners to treat them as equals. Even without this, it’s hard asking your new family to team up with a guy/cause/faction that has personally killed your closest friends and allies. If it had been anyone else on the crew I think the tension would still have been very high. Drummer went along with what was best for her family not herself for as long as she could until she came to the line of killing her own friends for someone she rightfully considers her enemy. Another great last stand that worked out ok in the moment.
This season was the most human one. It also had the best writing and acting till now! I feel so lucky to be fan of these books and this show, it is a major sci-fi and a human story of my generation. Dominique Tipper is such a good actress. The decision to hold the shot on her face instead of showing the commotion happening around her in the finale was a noteworthy decision. It is so joyful that the creators are so serious about every tiniest details.
i literally just watched your truly amazing reaction right after finishing season 5. Then i saw u guys here. What a coincidence 😂. One of my fav react channel on Ytb 🤩.
Dominique Tipper's acting this season has been so beyond phenomenal. Everything from when she spaced herself to the end of the Chetzemoka, just incredible. Some of the best acting I've seen in any show in any genre. Kudos!!
Dammit, i was hoping they'd talk about the scene at the end with Amos and Holden and Peaches joining on the ship. Stephen absolutely nailed that surprised and shocked facial expression. was crazy funny.
Here's a beautiful moment: When Wes asks Ty "When did Drummer actually decide to [do thing]?" and Ty, the writer, says that really you should ask Cara Gee, the actor. Love that. Doesn't matter who wrote it - once it's handed to the actor, their interpretation is what becomes canon.
@@CrackedCandy When she took a drink from that bottle would be my guess. She was keeping that for after she killed Marco, and when she resigned herself to be willing to kill herself in the effort of doing it she drank it.
Dominique you have been a wonderful actor, however, what you did in the last 3 episodes was incredible. I was fully onboard with the journey you were taking me on. You deserve an award! As a parent, I understood you. As for Naomi Nagata, for me what she did in the last 3 episodes has put her in the upper most levels of badass heroes in the world of Scifi.
one of the best moments in the episode was when Amos gamed Holden to get peaches aboard. The look of Shock, disbelief, bewilderment and WTF just happened as Holden processed just how Amos played him was priceless.
@@marquessmith395 rewatch that sequence, just as Amos grabs Clarissa's arm and takes her away, you see a full range of those emotions pass over his face.
@@NanashiSC2 Yes, but her presence then was a necessity of her being transported back to stand trial. More of "since you're here" thing. Having her aboard now is an entirely different circumstance.
Gotta say, I wish Firefly had had this level of support. The actors gave it, but no one else did. In many ways The Expanse is is the spiritual extension of Firefly.
Naomi's scenes were so hard to watch, the suspense was brutal. I'm glad she made it out alive, sucks we lost Alex. But it's nice to have the crew back together again. This was a great episode so much leading up to it. Can't wait for the next season, will be waiting in anticipation.
This season has been about what an incredible actress Dominique Tipper is. Naomi is incredibly powerful but so soft in those moments alone. She really had me following her emotional rollercoaster. I hope her performance is acknowledged during award season.
One of my favorite last-stand type of moment in film was actually in The Expanse. When Bobbie takes on the human-protomolecule hybrid in super-human versus Mars-human combat, to save the children of Io. She nearly dies and pretty much can't hardly even limp back and needs an evac. Superhero moment, in my book.
That was the "Let's see what it takes to kill one of these things" moments worthy of Mass Effect, or literally a line/scene from Babylon 5. I'd say firing a 5.56 minigun with incendiary rounds into somethings head at point blank works.
@@quatermasss Naah... that doesn't take very long to do. More likely, the studio's legal team had to approve the thing before airing. They've probably gone through the entire footage to make sure they don't talk about the Cas Anvar situation any further than "Alex dies, and that's sad"...
These days there’s too many platforms, too much content. When I was a kid, we had BBC1, BBC2, ITV. Channel 4 launched in 1982. Now we’ve multiple channels from each of them, plus all the streaming services. The show being on Amazon in some ways doesn’t help. I’ve got friends who don’t want Amazon Prime, don’t agree with the firm’s way of operating. The Amazon drivers are the Belters, their tips the air they need and are denied. Bezos wants mankind in space. Will we get Elysium, a them-and-us separation?
just wanna say that Naomi's journey had me on a emotional rollercoaster. her last jump out of the airlock had me tearing. her rescue by bobbie had me burst into crying. something i wouldn't forget for the rest of my life.
In my opinion, Holden is an exemplary ship's captain, cool and calculating under pressure. Reminds me of Honor Harrington from "Short victorious war", where she sits on the bridge and calmly goes about her business, while everything around goes to hell. Or the captain of MCRN Hamurabi same here. I love how the portrayal of such characters is done realistically. No hysterics, no overreaction.
@@upthebikez ikr! Honorverse has literally everything to satisfy anyone who loves space opera. Grand scale, amazing story and world, majestic ships, epic battles - both space and political, and on top of that - lots and lots of great characters which are both well written and diverse, not trading one to another. Honor herself is my personal definition of perfect "Strong female character" - being likeable, competent, humble complex and MOST IMPORTANTLY - evolving along the series, not "perfect from the start". And do not even start about absolutly glorious space battles - I am DYING to see on screen something of THAT magnitude and epicness, where the "Bad Guys" are also competent and complex, not just bunch of dressed up nazi clowns like imperials in star wars
What shocked me the most was the reactions of the rest for the crew. They reacted very lamely compared to how important Alex was. I believe this lame reaction has something to do with Alex's actor being removed from the show. I think his death should have been handled better. What a shame.
There are 3 more written 6-8 and no. 9 to come supposedly later this year, it would be such a disappointment if they didn't make them all with this cast and crew

That's been the case all along. What they did succeed in doing was write out Cas Anvar while giving Alex the hero's ending the character deserved: not an easy trick to pull off.

Another hilarious moment - Erich and Amos bring that bottle all the way from Baltimore to Luna and lose it to butterfingers and the natural reaction of both is to laugh. I hope , given the new character Erich was well received and so too was Jacob Mundell's job, that he gets into Season 6 or if a movie is made, and any games spun off the show. Glad his sidekick "Hutch", another good new character, survived her wounding. The care and tenderness Amos showed patching her up, sealing her wounds, was another nice scene to put Amos into.
Wes made some great points about Holden. I also love that scene with Holden and Naomi in the med bay. It was powerful. I liked how Steven explained what Holden is feeling now that Alex is dead but he has Naomi back.
This episode was unreal, the combat scenes alone 👌. This show is the best sci fi going right now, how the studio can not rethink going beyond season 6 is beyond me.
Hey guys,,,,I just want to say, this is possibly,,,,possibly, the best sci-fi show EVER on television. And I am considering the advances in technology, etc. That isn't what makes it great, although it helps. The story line is what hooked me. And I am a huge sci-fi fan. From the really, historic first of Star Trek (in which we didn't even know what it was like in space) and all it iterations, to Space 1999, to the remake of Battlestar Galactica (which my be the 2nd best), I just can't come to any other conclusion other than what I believe. Thank you for entertaining me and take pride in what you have created and contributed to.
For me, Naomi's story-arc, how it was produced/filmed/directed and ultimately performed by Dominique, was a next level brain-mushing, heart-crushing experience that was a privilege to watch. Thank you Expanse.
Hands down my favourite show of all time. And I discovered it by accident, Amazon need to advertise it more for sure, until then I'll continue to badger everyone who will listen to me about how much this show fucking bangs.
Is it weird that I got almost as emotional watching this aftershow as I did while watching the finale? I’m such a nerd, 🤓 but I LOVE this show. Hopefully, next year we’ll see a few nominations for the Golden Globe awards and Emmys.
Greatest sci-fi series EVER. Excellent writing expressed by excellent acting and supported by special effects, photography and cinematography. The best collaboration of all time.
Well, they sure gave her the minutes to showcase, an Emmy would help the show, and most people think the entertainment industry will be forced to prefer blacks this year and get the bulk of awards by "wokeness" and virtue signaling.. Not that I discount Tipper's acting, it was excellent, but all the minutes moved to the Nagata story arc may be in part due to all shows fear not meeting the wishes of the Twitter mob even back in 2019.
Seeing Naomi hearing Bobbi's voice.... Naomi's audio message to Holden .. Alex's mug ...Medina shooting at the UN and MRCN ships....Amos Naomi and Holden at the air lock without Alex...still processing all that.
I think you must have missed the episode with Cara Gee. She is exactly the opposite personality of Drummer, and she engages everyone with huge smile everytime she is addressed.
Truly one of the best seasons of science fiction in the history of television, if not the best. Bravo to everyone involved. And thanks to Amazon for making this a reality
@@NanashiSC2 Not for me...Expanse is on an entirely different level! A mere crime drama for me can't touch when you start dealing with Humanity itself as a species. How Humanity deals with itself on an interplanetary level versus mere local city stuff between Law Enforcement, Criminals, and Locals (been there done that with tv shows and plus IRL) Then you have not even being the big shots in this show where in the expanse of a massive universe there's OTHER SPECIES (and how we deal with first contact)!
This season was a solid 10/10 for me! I will always have a soft spot for the insanity of S3 but everyone knocked it out of the park here. Congrats, I can't wait for more :)
I hope that Ty and everybody has aknowledge that The expanse is the Star Trek of the XXIst century and there should be more than 6 seasons, much more, tens of them, for decades to come. It is a story so good, great characters, and so much posibillities to explore. This is just a great show.
The sequence with Bobbie saving Naomi is probably my favorite of the whole season, beautifully shot and emotionally powerful. As a mega fan of the books, I'm super bummed about Alex, I know that you *had* to do it, bu still... it sucks (and it kinda made the finale weirdly umbalanced - emotionally speaking). I'm already excited for the next season, Babylon's Ashes is my favorite book of the series and I can't wait so see that fabulous adventure on screen!
Was it emotionally unbalanced? Thinking about the loss of my father, how family reacted, I think it was spot on. For many there’s a numb denial of the loss. For some there’s a cold matter of fact response. It’s a coping mechanism. Later everything sinks in and the grieving follows.
Favorite moment was when Amos tricked Holden to bring his buddy Peaches onboard... the little kid excitement running back to her was priceless. Edit: changed it to Holden. Thanks for setting me straight. I never meant Alex.. oops.
I was laughing so hard at that moment. The look on Holden’s face when Clarissa said hi and Amos excitedly calling her Peaches and to follow him onto the ship. It was priceless. I’m disappointed they didn’t talk about it during the podcast.
Bravi.
I do really hope that S6, although totally unscripted, the crew gives justice to losing Alex Kamal. I get why it was done hastily, but I think there is still time to make it right by attending his funeral and making it really emotional about not only the things that Alex has done, but the things he'll no longer get to do.
The actor was fired for being under investigation for sexual misconduct. Although Anvar played Alex Kamal really well, he's left a stain on The Expanse forever, because they were left with no choice but to kill a main character. I would like to see the tribute to Alex, because it would give me some closure for all of the scenes I was excited to see him in, and now I never will.
Alex's removal is really manufactured. The writers did the best they could, given the circumstances. It's a shame that they couldn't wait one more season because this would have been Alex's end anyways. The problem is that Alex was basically the brain of the Rosi and the Rosi is the center of the main story. Alex leaves in this anticlimactic manner when actually it should be a climax towards season 6 and its final rundown. The Rosi has to fulfill its purpose in the war to pay off her arc. Alex was the perfect pilot for her. She won't have her full capabilities now without her pilot. Alex is a sacrifice for Naomi, but this sacrifice should be transformed into a climax in the coming season. There has to be something more to his death. Something that ultimately makes the Rosi's family stronger. Namoi is already weakened by what happens to her son, this was her first sacrifice of a family member, then she unwillingly had to sacrifice Cyn, her parent figure, as well, the third sacrifice, Alex, seems almost too much. How can you get out of this stronger? If Alex had survived, she at least would have her new chosen family as an anchor and pull strength from it. This will be difficult to justify for the writers now. It will be difficult for the actors as well to not get distracted by the accusations that went public. It will be difficult to keep their morale up and remember Alex for Alex and not confuse Alex with his actor. Normally, this isn't a problem because character and actor fit together in our memories without any distraction.
Doubt it, chances are that they will want to move on as quickly as possible and while that will mean that Alex doesn't get the respect he deserves it does at least mean that everyone can finally stop trying to not address the reality that lead to the character's death.
Just started watching all of the episodes a few weeks ago. Came over from Game of Thrones. Wasn't looking to get involved with another show, but I have to tell all viewers that this show is very worthwhile to watch. Great cast, great writing, great directing, fantastic special affects. Cannot wait for Season 6. Rewatching all the episodes to fill in the blanks. There are a lot of factions and names that make sense now. Thank you to Wes for doing these videos for the fans. You have a loyal fan here forever.

This was such a love fest ... and rightfully so. I hope you all know how much we fans are touched by the deep emotion and sacrifice and intelligence in this show. Thanks to Daniel Abraham for Naomi's words to Holden and thanks Dom and Steven for doing such a beautiful job in that scene. Oh my god, I cried. Glad "Ty and That Guy" will continue, we need something to live on till Season 6! Stay safe, we love ya.
For me this is, without any doubt, the best Sci-Fi series I have ever watched in fifty-five years of watching Sci-Fi. (I first recall watching "this Island Earth" on TV in about 1965, that was me hooked on Science Fiction forevermore).
It does. I f***ing hate it and I do wish that in situations like these we could actually separate the person from his work in fictional storytelling. Alex was a great guy, no matter what Cas Anwar may have done in real life. Period. Letting Alex fade away like this without even some proper farewell because of fearing bad press or backlash is f***ing awful.

Season 1 was but now I really lost a lot. Maybe it's because they dont have the CGI budget anymore but rail guns dont even seem to be a thing anymore.
Babylon 5 was the best for me. Expanse is very solid.
I watched a Star Trek Discovery a couple of days after watching this episode and it was just so full of 'magic science' that I couldn't take it seriously.
Cara Gee has absorbed Samantha Rosenberg, Bull, Camina Drummer AND now Michio Pa.
"When the universe needs a pirate queen, it makes Camina Drummer."
Drummer's such a great character.
Even if he plays a different role, I'm glad we finally got to meet the show version of Bull!
and they emasculated her in this season if it makes any sence, she was so vanilla compared to her self in previous seasons, he would have fired instantly if she were the Camina of the season before, i hope this was due to the stupidity of alex's actor and that the show had to be reshot and rewriten, i hope the quality goes up again next season, because this one they did a deservice to the awesome characters they already made, and just for the did of one person..... the hell???
Drummer is the best, omg
Steven is bossmang now; he's credited as a producer this season.
Yeah, his character had a lot more attention earlier but it was great to see him in this season aswell.
Loved that. Steven is great
I couldn't agree more! We sat down last night to watch the show, and my wife and I just couldn't believe it was the finale :(
As a lifelong science fiction fan I was hooked from the first season. These glimpses into the making of the work make it so much richer. Thank you!
Wonderful.
if Dominique Tipper was cast as Michael Burnham then maybe Star Trek Discovery would've been enjoyable.

“If the system is going to war, having the biggest mass-murderer in history watching my back seems pretty good.”
Wish granted.
its fucking scary how they show airlock deaths
Some of them were sympathetic to Marco's cause, like the guy who volunteered to be on Marco's ship and Bertolt (the tall one who looks like a Nazi)
Dammit, i was hoping they'd talk about the scene at the end with Amos and Holden and Peaches joining on the ship. Stephen absolutely nailed that surprised and shocked facial expression. was crazy funny.

Fantastic episode. Best ship action yet. Naomi's rescue was beautiful. RIP Alex.

Here's a beautiful moment: When Wes asks Ty "When did Drummer actually decide to [do thing]?" and Ty, the writer, says that really you should ask Cara Gee, the actor. Love that. Doesn't matter who wrote it - once it's handed to the actor, their interpretation is what becomes canon.

one of the best moments in the episode was when Amos gamed Holden to get peaches aboard. The look of Shock, disbelief, bewilderment and WTF just happened as Holden processed just how Amos played him was priceless.

Naomi's scenes were so hard to watch, the suspense was brutal. I'm glad she made it out alive, sucks we lost Alex. But it's nice to have the crew back together again. This was a great episode so much leading up to it. Can't wait for the next season, will be waiting in anticipation.
Give Dominique all the flowers. Bravo! Every scene pulled my heart in different directions. Just stellar performances all round
It was crap
This season has been about what an incredible actress Dominique Tipper is. Naomi is incredibly powerful but so soft in those moments alone. She really had me following her emotional rollercoaster. I hope her performance is acknowledged during award season.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I agree wholeheartedly!!
Agreed!!!
That was the "Let's see what it takes to kill one of these things" moments worthy of Mass Effect, or literally a line/scene from Babylon 5. I'd say firing a 5.56 minigun with incendiary rounds into somethings head at point blank works.
Bobby rescuing Naomi - an amazing scene.

Bravi.
Dominique played Naomi's story so beautifully this season. She deserves awards.
I do really hope that S6, although totally unscripted, the crew gives justice to losing Alex Kamal.
I get why it was done hastily, but I think there is still time to make it right by attending his funeral and making it really emotional about not only the things that Alex has done, but the things he'll no longer get to do.
That's a nice idea, the character deserves more of a tribute, if not the actor.
@@onubohrok That's what I was saying in agreement with you, the character deserves a tribute and not the actor.
Doubt it, chances are that they will want to move on as quickly as possible and while that will mean that Alex doesn't get the respect he deserves it does at least mean that everyone can finally stop trying to not address the reality that lead to the character's death.
Naomi's message wrecked me.
Omg Wes. Thank you for this gift of hosting these episodes. Your insight as a fan AND actor is just what we need. You ask the important questions! :D
This season was amazing, but Domi absolutely stole the freaking show. Seriously, top notch stuff. Can't wait for season 6. That shot of Laconia Station is super hype!
That's outstanding that you're going to go back and do this podcast for all the prior episodes. I'm definitely going to rewatch the series for that.
I was wainting for this!
Me 2
Dude I already complaint under the last video
Yup. We can stop holding our breath! Just like Naomi.
Real sucks that they have to walk on eggshells when they're talking about Alex (Cas).
@@jcp1984again I actually heard Naomi’s message as a goodbye to Alex and addressing the situation as a whole. I recommend going back and listening to it.
@@jcp1984again Understood, but nobody is going to ask a woman to work with Anvar, or nobody should.
To say they were "talking about it since day 1" sounds pretty disingenuous, when we know Alex didn't die in the original version of ep 10.
@@jcp1984again What's fucking awful is dozens of allegations of sexual harassment and assault.
I love the energy Dom brings 😂😂
The use of sign language was genius & effortless...need more of that.
I loved Amos's kid-like excitement calling Peaches to hop on board the Roci after his talk with Holden...he was so serious at first it took me a minute to understand what he was getting at
Fantastic season & amazing work by everyone ❤❤
My favourite show I’ve watched in a long, long, time. Was a big fan of the books too. Can’t wait to see where this goes next.
The fact that these guys are friends in real life fills me with warm and tender feelings.
Yeah, dropping Cas without a second thought was so emotional.
:p
