I can so relate. I live in Maryland near DC but I’m originally from Mississippi. I’ve made the decision to move back to be near my family and where the pace is slower. With remote jobs it’s possible now. I’ll be able to pay cash for a house once my home sale here is complete ( in a few days) . I’m so grateful to God. Planning a long distance move has been a challenging process but I thank God because I know it will be worth it. I miss the slower pace and my family so much. Following my bliss because life is short!

What modern convenience do you see her doing without ? She seems to have everything she could have in the West and more ! Because she earns money in dollars, the exchange rate makes her a wealthy person in Ghana ! The thing with Ghana is that as long as you have money( dollars /pounds) you can live a western lifestyle ! She obviously took advantage of her Canadian dollar and bought a house 5 years before she even made her move !! She is very fortunate she happened to be at the right place at the right time!!

Very informative video. You should consider making this a series. Interview others from the diaspora and inquire about their cost of living. That information will be so beneficial to others who are considering relocation. We would be able to compare costs of living between Accra, Akosombo, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Takoradi etc.
Most of the things you are mentioning, I felt for the one week I was there exploring whether or not I could move to Ghana. It is nice to hear that things has gotten better for you and that it just takes a little time to adjust. I can relate to all the points in this video. When I moved to Cameroon in 2015, I had a similar experience. The slower pace of life, stronger sense of community, and affordable help made life more enjoyable in Africa than in the UK, where I spend half my time now. Great video x❤

I have lived in Australia for almost 30 years and these are my observations: 1. Things have changed in the West (Australia) in the last 20 years. Houses bought for AUD100,000.00 in 2001 now cost at least AUD800,000.00. Even third generation Australians can no longer afford to buy a house in Australia. You have to save AUD100,000.00 for 10 years for a 10 percent deposit and another 30 years to pay off your mortgage--maybe paying 50% of the principal loan. 2. I am a public servant and coached tennis part-time in Sydney and Canberra. My older tennis playing group members state that after 40 years of mortgage repayments, you will have to sell your house to pay 30% for nursing home care. 3. It would be impossible if you are an African in your mid 30s - without family inheritance, and be able to make it in the west (2024 onwards)-'-if you plan to immigrate with your family. Life is hard. Maybe, it was manageable in the 1990s and early 2000s. 4. If you are in your early 30s, with good education or hard-working you may come to the West (without your family) to earn some money. Work night and day, save every penny and return to Africa after 3 -5 years. 5. You can make serious money in Africa, if you are enterprising. Watch Wode Maya: the Malawian who sold his mobile phone for $70.00, rented a plot of land and grew tomatoes. He became a millionaire after 3 years. The West is extremely difficult for migrants. Regulations, standards, bills, favouritism etc. Glory days are over!! Lunta. And as a migrant, you cannot afford to make mistakes--unpaid bills, DUI, drugs, DV, fights etc. You are done and dusted. You have the responsibility to provide advice to adventurers-- thinking of the good life (Tchelete) in the west.....Thanks for your Good Work God bless...

You did the positive residential home video some months ago, but I'd be interested in what happens if a fire breaks out, or how do we access primary care/GP services? Are there emergency numbers for fire and Police? Do we drive ourselves to hospitals in an emergency? Do ambulances charge? We had a missing persons incident last year and the police were unsatisfactory, so I worry. Also which are the good hospitals? Do they all have scanners and adequate ICU equipment? I've always known Korlebu by reputation as a nightmare, but as the largest teaching hospital, are the best emergency room physicians there? Or is a private hospital best in an emergency? Which are the best hospitals for elective surgery? Sorry- lots of questions!

I'm in the process of finally moving down after living in the U.S for few decades and can't wait. As you said, the feelings and vibe you get when down there is just different. Mostly euphoric. Only thing I don't like is Ghanaian mentality when it comes to work ethics. It's horrible. I'll have workers working on my building and soon as they get paid, they don't show up until their funds are dried. Very frustrating.

Good stuff I'll say, wonder if there can be a marriage between the affluent upstart adopted western values and the traditional Gh values...what is the sacrifice made for the advancement made....like you mentioned the reduced easy interaction in the more dadaba areas unlike the less affluent areas...I think the same conclusion can be made in the food trends in Gh; the more affluent folk get, the more they opt for pizza n the others...deemed to be a status symbol n leave fresh foods, fruits, veggies of the traditional gh cuisine. While that may be true, there’re many business opportunities in Ghana but most Ghanaians are either looking to go abroad for the elusive life in the west, or looking for capital to do “buy and sell” like the many “buy and sell” businesses in Ghana with very little profit margin. Ghanaians don’t want to farm, while they import billions of dollars of food annually. There are so many value chain businesses in agriculture that Ghanaians are not tapping into. That’s insanity.

Hi Jasmine, I'd like to make a request please. Could you look at 'Emergencies in Ghana' please, as part of a 'slice of life series.
You did the positive residential home video some months ago, but I'd be interested in what happens if a fire breaks out, or how do we access primary care/GP services?
Are there emergency numbers for fire and Police?
Do we drive ourselves to hospitals in an emergency? Do ambulances charge?
We had a missing persons incident last year and the police were unsatisfactory, so I worry.
Also which are the good hospitals?
Do they all have scanners and adequate ICU equipment?
I've always known Korlebu by reputation as a nightmare, but as the largest teaching hospital, are the best emergency room physicians there? Or is a private hospital best in an emergency?
Which are the best hospitals for elective surgery?

I'm in the process of finally moving down after living in the U.S for few decades and can't wait. As you said, the feelings and vibe you get when down there is just different. Mostly euphoric. Only thing I don't like is Ghanaian mentality when it comes to work ethics. It's horrible. I'll have workers working on my building and soon as they get paid, they don't show up until their funds are dried. Very frustrating.

Good stuff I'll say, wonder if there can be a marriage between the affluent upstart adopted western values and the traditional Gh values...what is the sacrifice made for the advancement made....like you mentioned the reduced easy interaction in the more dadaba areas unlike the less affluent areas...I think the same conclusion can be made in the food trends in Gh; the more affluent folk get, the more they opt for pizza n the others...deemed to be a status symbol n leave fresh foods, fruits, veggies of the traditional gh cuisine. We need to bridge the two divergent value sets as best as we can. Good content. Thank you.

Not everyone in Ghana has to live Jasmine’s lifestyle. There’re millions of people in Ghana who live above and below Jasmine’s lifestyle. You’ve responded in a typical Ghanaian complaint…that because she came from abroad she can afford it. While that may be true, there’re many business opportunities in Ghana but most Ghanaians are either looking to go abroad for the elusive life in the west, or looking for capital to do “buy and sell” like the many “buy and sell” businesses in Ghana with very little profit margin.
Ghanaians don’t want to farm, while they import billions of dollars of food annually. There are so many value chain businesses in agriculture that Ghanaians are not tapping into. That’s insanity.
