Dan and Robert: I had a Great Aunt, born in 1888, a gorgeous lady and a true kindred spirit, she was ageless in her true Soul. I would set for hours asking questions about her era, I should write a book, and I really may. But, I can't tell you how much I miss her and how very much *I appreciate these stories.* They give me such delicious moments of enjoyment. I could still set for hours listening to the experiences. We have lost so much real information, my family always use to say: "Rejoice at death and cry/mourn at birth." This meaning is: *"upon what we call death, is a transition back to our eternal energy, and it is of and from Source Energy aka God, and only in this human vessel do we experience contrast aka challenges, pain, fear, or sorrow.* Through the influence of medias, we have lost the knowing of our value, our true self, and we have lost the knowing of our connection with God through our Soul, we have lost the understanding of the positive and negative of energy, (our having choice of our Thoughts and in this choosing the desire rather than undesired). Fear is lowest energy (negative), love is the highest, light is high, laughter and joy are there too. The subjects of: fear, judging/judgemental (self/others), envy, jealousy, hate, guilt, etc. All are of the negative of our lower mind, the ego mind. Our Higher Mind the values of the Positive: love, joy, passions, creativity, the area where "We heal", find Harmony, and where Wisdom resides. Here we are in alignment with the Soul and it with God. I will share a further perspective around this subject and it is for your History knowledge, as in my studies of History/Ancient History, I came to find the values of clarity I was seeking. History was my college minor, but has been the greater focus of my post grad years. After years of professional career work and due to a health related situation I came to have the time to do this journey of research. I came to a feeling of need for greater clarity, a desire to go back beyond the point of "blindly trusting men/humans whom were the providers of the content said to be "the texts given for our standards of living life +/-" and having the mind I have, the expierence, education, and God given natural logic + affinity to seek the truth, asking the "Why questions", I had to apply the research to better have that satisfied "knowing feeling" in order to attain a true value if certainty, or at least a comfort toward accuracy in/with this subject of Life, our Journey, the Why's that had no solid answers. To keep this reasonable short, for this too, "I could write a book" and upon achieving a few more point certainties very well may, (my majors were Sociology and Journalism, thus the 3 can be just the right mix to drive a body bunch frustrated because: "I can't watch adults behaving with diagnosable Personality Disorders and/or observable Adolescent Emotional Development while knowing how the Owner is using the tool of News Media to "disable the Public Collective through their own Ego Mind and to manipulate Social/Economic/Political situations to satisfy his and his allies/partners/stockholders Stragetic Plans/Agendas, to further their Positions of Power and to Profit in the extremes of Millions, as the naieve public reacts just as intended. This just strikes a chord in my personal Standards of Ethics and all that is of value to me relative to my Country and this group of Public I belong to ... But that's another story and to write that book could be detrimental to my physical wellbeing. I digress). Thus, this natural need to know of Why's, History, and the desire for clarity on the subject of "more so Spiritual practice than Religion per say, because the latter are institutions, established by men, for the shared practice of their faith + their own added interpretations and rules. Never would 50 agree on 1 subject, nevermind a world's population, particularly when "Fear" has been the fuel added to gain their desired results.) Now, I shall continue and with Positive intentions, offer communication that will be understood and give various values to the Minds 9f History Interest. We are not forsaken in this journey of life, we merely have misplaced our clarity for interpreting the Ancient Texts and those Texts, largely, have incurred a number of diluted meanings or *edits by the Emperors, Kings, and those in Power in order to protect their positions by applying fears and negative thinking, as these keep folks disengaged, needy, miserable in fears.* Yeshua/Jesus taught us these truths, he was truly a threat to the elites and rulers, yet Constatine actually seemed to have made the most lastly manner of placing a restraint upon him through using him and his works to "rewrite the story and do so in a manner that left a gap", a missing of the information that would have given the masses their clear understanding. However, many pieces found their way through, some in the Bible that Constatine's Priest's compiled to be the Book (like the Jews had) to be the core go to for the "1 State Religion" established to support his Roman Empire, and some in additional finds of the "Dead Sea Scrolls", "Nag Hamadi Library" finds, and other Texts and Books less realized or known of in general. Let me point out that there's also some reasonable questions regarding the "Dead See Scrolls" having an unblemished state, as *they are housed in the "Rockefeller Museum in Israel", and I need not state the obvious + 50 years until they made them Public. 😶 The key points I discovered through all the texts/books/others works, and my having discovered the unexpected value of "Science" giving me that moment when "light shines and Angels sing" (just for the description of an epiphany) 😇 Quantum Physics literally is proving (has proven to my standard) that Yes, there is a God, a Creator Source, maybe not as Michael Angelo presented but we definitely have the "standard of proof". I will share this, then close with some food for thought. Quantum Physics defines the Universal Laws, the *"Universal Law of Attraction"* is the 🔑 It states that: "... all that manifests into material matter in this 3D Reality first requires Thought" (That is a Powerful Fact) i.e., "The Bang came 2nd" 8ta-da* Pause to absorb this beautiful Truth ... Once realized, it can never be forgotten. (Now is that "Light and Angels singing") But that's not all, Jesus made the following points: *"... ask and us shall receive"* *"... the body is a Temple of God"* *... faith the size of a Mustard Seed"* When one takes the time to read the *"Universal Law of Attraction"* (and every single person so needs to know and understand this Universal Law, the Ancients largely did) It defines how each 9f us are actually "creating 100% of our own reality" ... This is *"Absolute"* and how rare is that? Now, I will share some additional points. These may spawn more questions, but at this point I still find the feeling of the "LOA" so amazing that all else are enjoyable journeys for greater facts and History experiences. Jesus was a Rabbi, practicing Judaism, in good standing, and "the Followers 9f Yeshua/Jesus", met at folks homes for *"Suppers"* to discuss his "Teachings" On the subject of his Teachings: Jesus was vastly intelligent, a genius and "very well educated". His great uncle Joseph of Aramathea" was a shipping tycoon. His ships traveled to England for tin (to make Bronze), they didn't have the resources locally. He traveled to India, and the Orient, for silks and spices. Jesus was not poor, his Mothers Family were very well off, his G-Uncle extremely wealthy. His dad, Joseph was not a carpenter, he was a Stone Mason, Jesus learned this craft. Jesus traveled with his Uncle (the missing years). There so much more, but its all a bit to take in, given our years of learned information. There's no worry of right or wrong, no one gets it all right or all wrong - it is a Living, experiencing Journey. Souls having a human journey in this Physical world. Everything is to be a delicious experience, the observing of miracles of creative experiences, of "feelings". Thought + Feelings + Focus X Belief/Knowing = Manifested Reality aka Energy Vibration Frequency Our state of Frequency attracts like energy and this = our Reality Experiences ... I would pay a Membership Fee to have hours of these and know they would prove the calming energies that inspire my "action/movement" to do the things I want/need to do, and that also being the "healthy healing medicine" that serves my greater wellbeing. That’s interesting him talking about trimmed in blue for an herbalist. In Amish country when they had a daughter available for marriage they painted the gate to the house in blue. Interesting that blue painting meant something to both communities.
Oh my goodness Robert, this is your best one ever! I think I have watched all of them and loved almost every one. I was a child like Dan, loved listening to my Grandma and all her children on Sunday afternoon. I have been working to get these stories on paper for several years now. Robert, I love to watch you in a Cemetery, you are so kind and respectful to the Graves of the people buried there. Dan, you are a walking history book and also kind and respectful. Been in Northern California my whole life, don't know anything about Georgia but Mr Dan had my attention the whole time with the old stories. Keep the stories coming Robert.
I took a look at the 1910 census and "March" Marshal and wife Amelia were listed as living on Waverly Hall Road. Their son, "March" Jr. was the oldest child in the family at that time. March Sr was 58 at the time and March Jr. was 22 years old. The older March Marshall and wife Amelia had been married for 34 years. He was born a slave in 1852 going by his age in the census. The wife Amelia is most likely buried close by.
Another researcher... I run right to Ancestry to look them up.... young Marsh died in the military during the Spanish flu epidemic. He died of Lumbar pneumonia. 1918.
Angela, when DNA cousin Amy and I were in Talbot, we tried to find Marshall's mother, Rosa Marshall's, grave in the Waverly Hall cemetery. It's more likely she was buried in the unmarked graves Sidestep Adventures showed us. We looked and looked for the place where the slave owner's house had been while we were there, but to no avail. Local historian, Mike Buckner, drove us all around Talbot County and his amazing property. It was such an emotional experience knowing my great-grandfather, and perhaps his parents, were born within mere miles of where that video was shot. Thanks for letting me know about this.

I'd bet there are some interesting buried treasures waiting to be found across the South as valuables were quickly hidden from advancing Union soldiers. I enjoy reading old gravestones here in Scotland...I take a spray bottle full of purified water and spray it on hard-to-read writing on the markers. The water makes it easier to read. Wow The story of the old man with The $20 Good piece. Here in Texas, The ghost of my Great Grandfather appeared to my mother as a little girl in early 1960 and he told her were he had buried some money. Long story short, my Grandfather, my mom's Daddy went to the old farm location as told and found the buried money. I'm 3rd generation of Norwegian immigrant's.. I loved listening to my Aunt's and Uncles tell about the old country before they came to the United States.. My mom told great stories of living in North Dakota and Wisconsin before they moved to Washington state.. I have been telling the stories to my nieces and nephews.. I loved Dan's stories and the history of the area.. I don't know if he has but he needs to write a book about the stories he has heard over the years.. Peace to you all..

I know the person who created the tree! And she has "Marshall" Marshall on her tree! I have just sent her a message with a link to your video!!! I am a Carter and my family comes from Ellisville, MS and the majority of my family still do. We were told by my grandfather and his siblings that we come from two brothers who were slaves and were sold to two different brothers whose last name were Carter and were plantation owners and one lived in MS and the other in Georgia. We have been trying to track down the other brother who was sold to the slave owner's brother who lived in Georgia for the longest but keep coming up at a dead end. My grandfather and his siblings have all passed away but they made sure we knew as kids where we came from and how they lived when they were kids and who their family members were so we would not forget who we are. I just happened to be looking at youtube and this video came up and was excited he mentioned some of the family members were Carters and it peeked my interest and got me wondering if they are related to my family somehow.@@AYWalton

This man has my respect. I would've loved to have a history teacher like him (although there is one other person I do miss when I was in high school). I do know of a Cherokee Native that is just like this gentleman. One thing I will say about G.A, for anyone that hasn't explored the Chicamauga Battlefields there should go and spend some time out there. There is one marker & fenced in grave of a 16 yr old kid. He was hit by a stray musket as he was trying to deliver goods to the Confederates'.
An absolutely fascinating video. I could listen to Dan for hours. The unmarked graves used to rip at my heart. But now learning from Dan that many of them were actually the families choice these graves today did not tug so at my heart
If they finish taking away the reproductive rights of women then this will come to pass yet again. Could you imagine your daughter having a dozen children in her lifetime? I talked to an old woman in south Louisiana far back in the day and after her 8th child, her uterus came out with that last child and she lived to have 2 more children. She said that the doctor just pushed her uterus back up in there and told her that she needed to start telling her husband NO.
I'm only 22 but I was sickly as a kid and my parents did NOT trust daycare centers and babysitters so I was always with my grandmother ..my great grandmother and my great great grandmother. My great great grandfather us still the coolest man I've ever met! LOL! Like you I developed an intense love of history. And you are right... older people love telling about their lives and their community to people that will listen.... and I have been recording them since I was about 10. And some of them are so funny.. so sad...so heartbreaking and so evil. But they taught me things that they learned the hard way and they still have the physical scars. My great great grandmother is 101 and my great great grandfather is 102 and still goes fishing and hunting.... listening to Mr Dan let's me know that I'm not weird for my love of history and my love of senior citizens. I have requests from other seniors that want me to record their history because the members of their family don't like to listen and they don't want it die with them. When I was 14 I recorded a man that was 104. It took about 3 weeks and about 3 weeks after we completed the recordings he passed away. I was so glad that I was able to do that for him.....R.I.P. Mr Josiah.
Just amazing. Dan, you were very fortunate. What you took away from being able to listen to the stories and life experiences of the older generation(s) is priceless. To appreciate these people at such a young age gave you more than playing with a friend ever could have. I know for myself listening to people that had or have had life experiences that I can never have, nor the chance to do any of what they had done myself is something I hold very dear. Listening to oral history is facinating. Yes, when visiting the old cemeteries in my families old places in Kentucky, I can paint a picture of almost everyone buried there, the lives and times. Especially important as it relates to my family. You have amazing recall, Dan, and I certainly respect and admire you for sharing and painting pictures with your words. Dan just passed part of himself down to us and passed Mr. Bud to us, that more than likely no one else remembers, but now we all do! Listening is an art. I don't know how many videos of yours I have watched, but this by far was the absolute best. The first 12 or 13 minutes hearing the story of Mr. Bud and having his photo there (including the story of reclaiming the photo) was amazing. Then that story at the end of the video about the man who found the buried money had me smiling so much. I'm going to watch and listen to these stories again and again.
Loved this! I also grew up around older people, my parents were in their 30's & 40's when I come along. I wanted to hear the old folks stories too but most hardly ever talked of the past. My Dad's brother road the rails during the depression. oh the stories he must have had! but my Dad told me to never ask him about it. Grandparents on both sides were gone by the time I was born so didn't get to hear their stories.
Carol B I had an uncle who rode the rails also. The stories he told about that time were of hard times. He almost lost his life one time when he miss stepped jumping up into a rail car. He told of the rail inspectors who would check out the boxcar's to see if there were any hobo's on the train. Oh how I wish he was still alive to get a recording of his stories 😢
I could listen to him all day. He has a good heart which is why people, including African American elders, opened up to him. He knows how to keep history and not mishandle it.
Fascinating story from Mr. Akin. I wish I had paid closer attention to the stories I heard as a child. Just in the past year or so I began studying herbal medicine, and am now working on planting medicinal herbs and plants. My grandmother was an herbalist, and a healer. She learned from her mother, who was a slave from Africa.
Start writing down the bits you remember. Those little memories will spark more and more. In a short time you will have captured many of those stories. I know because I have started to work on my memories of my mother’s travels as her family tried to find work during the depression.

This way it does not die.My Mother's family is from West Virginia, and they came to America in 1634,fought in the Revolution.I always loved listening to the stories of my ancestors, and the history. My relatives wrote it down years ago,and I have the books..Such a blessing. Very interesting video.

If only any of my history teachers had been half as interesting too listen to as Dan is! I grew up "walking cemeteries/graveyards" as my grandma and parents called it. I'll be 60 this year, we do a lot of back road driving looking for cemeteries/graveyards, and we bring our grandkids along. In the last 18 years of doing this, we've never run into anybody else with kids along. This is what we did and do on our Sunday rides, don't people do that anymore, or was I raised weird?

I would love to be friends with you guys. This type of stuff fascinates me. I was stationed in Georgia for awhile, my first time ever in the south and just driving thru and watching the large oak trees, I only thought to my self “if only these trees can talk”.

To keep this reasonable short, for this too, "I could write a book" and upon achieving a few more point certainties very well may, (my majors were Sociology and Journalism, thus the 3 can be just the right mix to drive a body bunch frustrated because: "I can't watch adults behaving with diagnosable Personality Disorders and/or observable Adolescent Emotional Development while knowing how the Owner is using the tool of News Media to "disable the Public Collective through their own Ego Mind and to manipulate Social/Economic/Political situations to satisfy his and his allies/partners/stockholders Stragetic Plans/Agendas, to further their Positions of Power and to Profit in the extremes of Millions, as the naieve public reacts just as intended. This just strikes a chord in my personal Standards of Ethics and all that is of value to me relative to my Country and this group of Public I belong to ... But that's another story and to write that book could be detrimental to my physical wellbeing. I digress).
Thus, this natural need to know of Why's, History, and the desire for clarity on the subject of "more so Spiritual practice than Religion per say, because the latter are institutions, established by men, for the shared practice of their faith + their own added interpretations and rules. Never would 50 agree on 1 subject, nevermind a world's population, particularly when "Fear" has been the fuel added to gain their desired results.)
Now, I shall continue and with Positive intentions, offer communication that will be understood and give various values to the Minds 9f History Interest.
We are not forsaken in this journey of life, we merely have misplaced our clarity for interpreting the Ancient Texts and those Texts, largely, have incurred a number of diluted meanings or *edits by the Emperors, Kings, and those in Power in order to protect their positions by applying fears and negative thinking, as these keep folks disengaged, needy, miserable in fears.*
Yeshua/Jesus taught us these truths, he was truly a threat to the elites and rulers, yet Constatine actually seemed to have made the most lastly manner of placing a restraint upon him through using him and his works to "rewrite the story and do so in a manner that left a gap", a missing of the information that would have given the masses their clear understanding. However, many pieces found their way through, some in the Bible that Constatine's Priest's compiled to be the Book (like the Jews had) to be the core go to for the "1 State Religion" established to support his Roman Empire, and some in additional finds of the "Dead Sea Scrolls", "Nag Hamadi Library" finds, and other Texts and Books less realized or known of in general.
Let me point out that there's also some reasonable questions regarding the "Dead See Scrolls" having an unblemished state, as *they are housed in the "Rockefeller Museum in Israel", and I need not state the obvious + 50 years until they made them Public. 😶
The key points I discovered through all the texts/books/others works, and my having discovered the unexpected value of "Science" giving me that moment when "light shines and Angels sing" (just for the description of an epiphany) 😇 Quantum Physics literally is proving (has proven to my standard) that Yes, there is a God, a Creator Source, maybe not as Michael Angelo presented but we definitely have the "standard of proof".
I will share this, then close with some food for thought.
Quantum Physics defines the Universal Laws, the *"Universal Law of Attraction"* is the 🔑
It states that: "... all that manifests into material matter in this 3D Reality first requires Thought" (That is a Powerful Fact)
i.e., "The Bang came 2nd" 8ta-da*
Pause to absorb this beautiful Truth ...
Once realized, it can never be forgotten. (Now is that "Light and Angels singing")
But that's not all, Jesus made the following points:
*"... ask and us shall receive"*
*"... the body is a Temple of God"*
*... faith the size of a Mustard Seed"*
When one takes the time to read the *"Universal Law of Attraction"* (and every single person so needs to know and understand this Universal Law, the Ancients largely did)
It defines how each 9f us are actually "creating 100% of our own reality" ... This is *"Absolute"* and how rare is that?
Now, I will share some additional points. These may spawn more questions, but at this point I still find the feeling of the "LOA" so amazing that all else are enjoyable journeys for greater facts and History experiences.
Jesus was a Rabbi, practicing Judaism, in good standing, and "the Followers 9f Yeshua/Jesus", met at folks homes for *"Suppers"* to discuss his "Teachings"
On the subject of his Teachings:
Jesus was vastly intelligent, a genius and "very well educated".
His great uncle Joseph of Aramathea" was a shipping tycoon. His ships traveled to England for tin (to make Bronze), they didn't have the resources locally. He traveled to India, and the Orient, for silks and spices.
Jesus was not poor, his Mothers Family were very well off, his G-Uncle extremely wealthy.
His dad, Joseph was not a carpenter, he was a Stone Mason, Jesus learned this craft. Jesus traveled with his Uncle (the missing years).
There so much more, but its all a bit to take in, given our years of learned information.
There's no worry of right or wrong, no one gets it all right or all wrong - it is a Living, experiencing Journey. Souls having a human journey in this Physical world. Everything is to be a delicious experience, the observing of miracles of creative experiences, of "feelings".

i hope that Dan is recognized in his community as a prime historian. i hope he has written or will write a book of his memoirs. i always enjoyed listening to my elders speaking in the old days.
That’s interesting him talking about trimmed in blue for an herbalist. In Amish country when they had a daughter available for marriage they painted the gate to the house in blue. Interesting that blue painting meant something to both communities.
In Southern New Mexico we trim windows and doors in blue to keep out bad spirits.
Oh my goodness Robert, this is your best one ever! I think I have watched all of them and loved almost every one. I was a child like Dan, loved listening to my Grandma and all her children on Sunday afternoon. I have been working to get these stories on paper for several years now.

I took a look at the 1910 census and "March" Marshal and wife Amelia were listed as living on Waverly Hall Road. Their son, "March" Jr. was the oldest child in the family at that time. March Sr was 58 at the time and March Jr. was 22 years old. The older March Marshall and wife Amelia had been married for 34 years. He was born a slave in 1852 going by his age in the census. The wife Amelia is most likely buried close by.
Another researcher... I run right to Ancestry to look them up.... young Marsh died in the military during the Spanish flu epidemic. He died of Lumbar pneumonia. 1918.
Angela, when DNA cousin Amy and I were in Talbot, we tried to find Marshall's mother, Rosa Marshall's, grave in the Waverly Hall cemetery. It's more likely she was buried in the unmarked graves Sidestep Adventures showed us. We looked and looked for the place where the slave owner's house had been while we were there, but to no avail. Local historian, Mike Buckner, drove us all around Talbot County and his amazing property. It was such an emotional experience knowing my great-grandfather, and perhaps his parents, were born within mere miles of where that video was shot. Thanks for letting me know about this.

I’m not even from your state but I could sit as you did n listen to all you had to say. Mr. Buck was a handsome man n to live 96 years is amazing. So happy too that you got to get these photos of the people you knew so much about. You mentioned about bury the dead n leaving your grief there. I’ve heard of this before. I think it was my grand daddy from Alabama told me.

I enjoy reading old gravestones here in Scotland...I take a spray bottle full of purified water and spray it on hard-to-read writing on the markers. The water makes it easier to read. Wow The story of the old man with The $20 Good piece. Here in Texas, The ghost of my Great Grandfather appeared to my mother as a little girl in early 1960 and he told her were he had buried some money. Long story short, my Grandfather, my mom's Daddy went to the old farm location as told and found the buried money.

I'm 3rd generation of Norwegian immigrant's.. I loved listening to my Aunt's and Uncles tell about the old country before they came to the United States.. My mom told great stories of living in North Dakota and Wisconsin before they moved to Washington state.. I have been telling the stories to my nieces and nephews.. I loved Dan's stories and the history of the area.. I don't know if he has but he needs to write a book about the stories he has heard over the years.. Peace to you all..

I know the person who created the tree! And she has "Marshall" Marshall on her tree! I have just sent her a message with a link to your video!!! I am a Carter and my family comes from Ellisville, MS and the majority of my family still do. We were told by my grandfather and his siblings that we come from two brothers who were slaves and were sold to two different brothers whose last name were Carter and were plantation owners and one lived in MS and the other in Georgia. We have been trying to track down the other brother who was sold to the slave owner's brother who lived in Georgia for the longest but keep coming up at a dead end. My grandfather and his siblings have all passed away but they made sure we knew as kids where we came from and how they lived when they were kids and who their family members were so we would not forget who we are. I just happened to be looking at youtube and this video came up and was excited he mentioned some of the family members were Carters and it peeked my interest and got me wondering if they are related to my family somehow.@@AYWalton

This man has my respect. I would've loved to have a history teacher like him (although there is one other person I do miss when I was in high school). I do know of a Cherokee Native that is just like this gentleman.
One thing I will say about G.A, for anyone that hasn't explored the Chicamauga Battlefields there should go and spend some time out there. There is one marker & fenced in grave of a 16 yr old kid. He was hit by a stray musket as he was trying to deliver goods to the Confederates'.

Wow, Mrs. Lily Marshall Copeland Mahone had EIGHTEEN children!! That woman is amazing just for that feat alone.
If they finish taking away the reproductive rights of women then this will come to pass yet again. Could you imagine your daughter having a dozen children in her lifetime? I talked to an old woman in south Louisiana far back in the day and after her 8th child, her uterus came out with that last child and she lived to have 2 more children. She said that the doctor just pushed her uterus back up in there and told her that she needed to start telling her husband NO.

I always loved sitting listening to the older people talk.
I'm my family historian.
I'm only 22 but I was sickly as a kid and my parents did NOT trust daycare centers and babysitters so I was always with my grandmother ..my great grandmother and my great great grandmother. My great great grandfather us still the coolest man I've ever met! LOL! Like you I developed an intense love of history. And you are right... older people love telling about their lives and their community to people that will listen.... and I have been recording them since I was about 10. And some of them are so funny.. so sad...so heartbreaking and so evil. But they taught me things that they learned the hard way and they still have the physical scars. My great great grandmother is 101 and my great great grandfather is 102 and still goes fishing and hunting.... listening to Mr Dan let's me know that I'm not weird for my love of history and my love of senior citizens. I have requests from other seniors that want me to record their history because the members of their family don't like to listen and they don't want it die with them. When I was 14 I recorded a man that was 104. It took about 3 weeks and about 3 weeks after we completed the recordings he passed away. I was so glad that I was able to do that for him.....R.I.P. Mr Josiah.
Just amazing. Dan, you were very fortunate. What you took away from being able to listen to the stories and life experiences of the older generation(s) is priceless. To appreciate these people at such a young age gave you more than playing with a friend ever could have. I know for myself listening to people that had or have had life experiences that I can never have, nor the chance to do any of what they had done myself is something I hold very dear. Listening to oral history is facinating. Yes, when visiting the old cemeteries in my families old places in Kentucky, I can paint a picture of almost everyone buried there, the lives and times. Especially important as it relates to my family. You have amazing recall, Dan, and I certainly respect and admire you for sharing and painting pictures with your words. Dan just passed part of himself down to us and passed Mr. Bud to us, that more than likely no one else remembers, but now we all do! Listening is an art. When you are on with Robert, I enjoy it so much. Robert, another wonderful job of filming and hosting. Just amazing stories, every single one. Absolutely love it. ❣️❣️👍👍

I don't know how many videos of yours I have watched, but this by far was the absolute best. The first 12 or 13 minutes hearing the story of Mr. Bud and having his photo there (including the story of reclaiming the photo) was amazing. Then that story at the end of the video about the man who found the buried money had me smiling so much. I'm going to watch and listen to these stories again and again.

Loved this! I also grew up around older people, my parents were in their 30's & 40's when I come along. I wanted to hear the old folks stories too but most hardly ever talked of the past. My Dad's brother road the rails during the depression. oh the stories he must have had! but my Dad told me to never ask him about it. Grandparents on both sides were gone by the time I was born so didn't get to hear their stories.
Carol B I had an uncle who rode the rails also. The stories he told about that time were of hard times. He almost lost his life one time when he miss stepped jumping up into a rail car. He told of the rail inspectors who would check out the boxcar's to see if there were any hobo's on the train. Oh how I wish he was still alive to get a recording of his stories 😢

Fascinating story from Mr. Akin. I wish I had paid closer attention to the stories I heard as a child. Just in the past year or so I began studying herbal medicine, and am now working on planting medicinal herbs and plants. My grandmother was an herbalist, and a healer. She learned from her mother, who was a slave from Africa.
Start writing down the bits you remember. Those little memories will spark more and more. In a short time you will have captured many of those stories. I know because I have started to work on my memories of my mother’s travels as her family tried to find work during the depression.
I love these videos of Dan and his history lessons, and especially the old forgotten cemeteries found by you you, Dan and other Robert. Missing Cody on these adventures.

This way it does not die.My Mother's family is from West Virginia, and they came to America in 1634,fought in the Revolution.I always loved listening to the stories of my ancestors, and the history. If only any of my history teachers had been half as interesting too listen to as Dan is! I grew up "walking cemeteries/graveyards" as my grandma and parents called it. I'll be 60 this year, we do a lot of back road driving looking for cemeteries/graveyards, and we bring our grandkids along. In the last 18 years of doing this, we've never run into anybody else with kids along. This is what we did and do on our Sunday rides, don't people do that anymore, or was I raised weird?
