Nothing like a classic tube amp nor a modern tube amp. It has the warmth of the classics, with the clarity and brightness of some of the solid state units like the HEGEL amps or the EXPOSURE amps. EXTRORDINARY!
I wouldn't have thought the 8 WPC Willsenton R300 would be a good match with the 85 dB Spendor SA1. In this video they sound very good, which I think has much to do with the transformers used in the R300. Bass reproduction is better with the JBL L15 but I preferred the Spendors. I have that same amp and like it very much. Thanks for doing this.
Nice Amp, I use the r300 with klipsch forte 3. Sounds great. Not very fat but very clear and crisp Sound. I suggest to change 300b and 6sn6. Using we300b and psvane silver Mark 2 as 6sn7. The tungsol orig 6sl7 is a little sharp on forte. Changed to lin lai 6sl7 elite
Hi they have both great sound Have you modded the JBL xover ? i would look at the quality of parts in series with the tweeter Both caps and resistors they can add distortion and smear the response I looked at the specs Weight: 15.8kg/each !!! very heavy Good for resonance control They should image well I would take any of the two Great speakers
overall I would choose the jbl but they do tend to a little stridency that could probably be dealt with. I prefer the balance and the spatial rendition. That said both are pleasant loudspeakers. If I got to pic for myself I would jump to a D130 with an 075. thanks for posting.
Soooo... How do they compare, after all? I suspect the JBL held their own. I like Spendor, but sometimes they leave me a bit wanting, not unlike Harbeth. (although when I heard their A-series about 5-ish years ago, I was pretty impressed. )
I have it. It's my first 300b amp. I love it. I'm using it as a power amp only because I've got a preamp I like very much. It sounds great as an integrated as well.
@@garyalexander5686 recently I bought klipsch RP 500 M2 so I think Wilson R300 amp will be perfect match with RP 500 M2 speaker, because the speaker sensitivity is 92db.
I already own 2 sets of JBL L15s in perfect condition with original boxes, and I will buy another pair if I find one in a 10/10 condition. Please check out another video on JBL L15 I posted a year ago.
Spendor sounded more intimate to me. Jbl much more upfront . Both are good speakers but will cater to different priorities. I have to say I am suprised the jbl was not filled out by the tube amp in place.
Jbl just sounds more live and real. Spendor was impressive at first, then I heard the Jbl and can't go back to the spendor.. Spendor has a muffled, cupped hands sound compared to the JBL.

This amp drives all the low-sensitivity difficult-to-drive speakers better than any other amp I've used.

The midrange on the Spendor is fuller. Singer is right in front of you, in a very realistic natural way.
Jbl sonds ten times better. More transparent, more open more live, deeper bass

@@Jil8840 These were made between 1981 and 1983, and were a part of the famous JBL 'L' series. So they are about 40 years old.
