Timed Up & Go Test

The purpose of the Timed Up and Go Test is to assess the mobility, balance, walking ability and fall risk in older adults. The TUG Test measures the time it takes an individual to stand up from a standard armchair. Walk a distance of 3 meters or about 10 feet, turn around, walk back to the chair and sit down.

According to Sullivan, my source, 11-20 sec. is within normal limits and; over 30 sec. is high risk for falls.

why didn't you list the normal time expected for patients?

If patient's age from 80 - 99 years takes more than 12 seconds that's increase risk of falls, From 70 - 79 years stopwatch will be around 9.2 seconds, if patient's age 60 - 69 years will be done at 8.1 seconds.

If a client is at minimal assist with transfers, is the TUG test valid?

This topic came up in a discussion. Is the patient supposed to go to the object pivot and turn around or are they to walk around the object??
