One of the fountains used to 70s - 90's have an elaborate series of pully driven buckets that would fill up at the bottom of the fountain and carry water up to the very top and dump the water into a very elaborate series of water canals made from wood that had interesting waterfall features as it flowed back down to the bottom. It was mesmerizing. It probably needed serious repair and the fountain you see in the video was a triage to keep it somewhat functional.
This place is fantastic. I HAVE to visit when I do the small drive to Dollywood. I absolutely love the different small murals on the elevators, small staircases and odd escalators. The smell of dirt, leather, and wood is definitely here. Thank you 🙏
Just discovered your channel but really enjoying it. Thanks especially for mentioning that this mall has a cool record store. That just moved it up my list of places to visit.
You are welcome, I really appreciate what you all are doing in regards to a dying American legacy of retail. I will be 64 this year and I have many fond memories of Chapel Hill Mall and actually worked there in the Woolworths Harvest House as a teenager briefly.@@UniCommProductions
Good to see you in my family's neck of the woods. I've had many trips to the Smokies. Well done as always! Did you get to Knoxville to check on the progress of the old East Towne mall?
Can I make a confession? I’ve been watching you for a couple of years now and one of the biggest reasons I come to your videos while I like seeing malls dead or alive I love your voice. You have such a great kickback chill voice so I mainly come just to listen to you tell me about the mall you’re going through, I know sometimes in life, we can feel insecure about a thing such as are voice, but just know yours is awesome
Well thank you very much for that! When I started making videos I was really worried about how the way I talk would be received and its comments like this that keep me doing it.
As someone who has lived in gatlinburg for 15 years this make me so happy! I’m actually from Chattanooga so I so hope you check out East Gate Mall(my childhood mall) or even north gate while you’re there!!! Can’t wait to see the next uploads ! Keep up the amazing work!
"A black bear wearing a straw hat holding a jug of moonshine". That's pretty specific Kristin. Are YOU that aunt? 🤣🤣🤣 Been to Gatlinburg once and OMG, you just have to experience it to get it. Love the fountains, the baby escalators and all the brown.
We are from Chicago area but this is our favorite mall! We were just there two days ago & just returned home tonight. We just love the look and the smell of the place! The cosmetics store is great! Thanks for the great video!
It's funny, at the start I was like "Gatlinburg has a mall?". But yeah, I've been there several times as a kid, just never thought of it as a mall for some reason. That tall mill statue thingy IS a really beautiful piece of art work. Unexpectedly Zen. Excellent work. Love your channel, thanks.
That "Martial Arts and Knives Superstore" looks like it hasn't changed since I visited there last...maybe fifteen years ago or so? Best place in The South to buy your kid a pair of foam (or real) nunchucks. 🙂
It's so...brown, and therefore excellent. Apologies if I've used that stolen joke before. The small cozy scale and cheesy retro decor is really intriguing.
Thanks Kristin. I have been in here a few times but never checked out all the levels, now I want to go back. Looks like a few places were closed, maybe due to it being off season?
I love Rhythm Section, they were the place to get rock t-shirts before the rise of Hot Topic and the internet. I live in Chattanooga so I’m curious to see what you film there.
what a cozy little mall - and whats nice is that its so different from all the homogenized malls we see everywhere else...thanx for the trip down your memory lane!
I absolutely love this mall and I am happy that it’s thriving.

Oh it definitely smells exactly the way you’d expect, leather wood and candy.
This is a must visit every time I go to gatlinburg
It’s just pure nostalgia. I love coming in here because so much has changed but (other than the arcade) this looks THE SAME.
Very cool mall!
I haven’t been there in 30 years and it looked just like this then 😂. Thanks for sharing!
There’s something comforting about that, isn’t there? There’s at least one place that is the same.
this place looks like so much fun!
So fun. Such a time capsule!
God I love this place! Fantastic work, VP!
Just discovered your channel but really enjoying it. Thanks especially for mentioning that this mall has a cool record store. That just moved it up my list of places to visit.
Thanks for watching!
Gosh what an unusual place. Watching from New Zealand where our malls are thriving.
Wonderful video, as always. The funny thing is, I recognized the town from another TH-camr, Everything Auto, so I definitely had to see this video.
Looked like it was in nice shape
Thanks! Liked your voice of reason for the Yodeling Loon!
Thank you so much!!! That is such a sweet gesture and so appreciated

Been there many times.
Now you have given me another place on the bucket list to visit!
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
Very Wonderful Video!!!!! I Love the Fountains!!! F+L, Corey
Kirsten I feel like listening to a John Denver record front to back after the tour of the mall I’m hooked 😉
You had me at de-still😏

I drove past it in the dark, and was very sad to see that big Amazon warehouse where it once stood

It always puts a smile on my face when I see a new Unicom post. Listening to you narrate is like ASMR for me Kristen. 😊🙏
Thank you for coming out…weirdly I always hated my voice until I started making videos and had to get used to it!
Thanks for showing me place’s I’ll never see in person.

Interestingly enough I think Eastgate is probably next
So much wood, so cozy. This is a gem of a mall with the cutest little escalators. Thanks Kristin for another great tour!

I was in there a couple years ago. The record store made my wife dizzy like it was haunted.

Springhill mall in East Dundee/carpentersville IL is closing permanently on March 22 2024

It hasn’t, they even still have Cloud’s Buster Sword from FFVII in the front window.

I was there pretty early on a Friday morning; I know several of the closed stores didn’t open until closer to noon
Amazing video as always Kristin!!!
"I want my brown back" - sincerely the 1980s
What a uniquely beautiful mall. I love the feel of it !

Thank you! I hope you and your family are doing well too!
I love Rhythm Section, they were the place to get rock t-shirts before the rise of Hot Topic and the internet. I live in Chattanooga so I’m curious to see what you film there.
I did the two -gates, which are two wildly different places
Looking forward to this one. It’s a mall I’m wry familiar with. It’s about 2 hours up the road from me!
I’m excited to get to show it to everyone!

Awesome work! What a retro feel good mall!
I think many sports fans needed something cozy last night after the day they had!
I've never checked out the record store here. I'll have to stick my head in the next time I'm in the mountains.
