My favorite of all 4 Super Bowl championships. That 1990 Giants team will ALWAYS be my favorite! Loved those blue collar, smash mouth, TOUGH, FOOTBALL PLAYERS!
No disrespect to Manningham and the David Tyree miracle catches. But that 3rd and long against the Bills. The Giants had hard working receivers but were not in the same class as Rice/Taylor and Reed/Lofton
I was 12 years old when they won that super bowl. I was on my knees holding hands with my brother and my sister when the wide rite came. I just cried again remembering it. LOL
@@BillsFan2015 there wasn't anything lucky about it. Everybody knows that the bills can't beat a belichick defense. Just remember, the bills went on to lose four straight super bowls. While the New York Giants have four super bowl victories.
@@BillsFan2015 again, you obviously don't understand history. Norwood was known for not being able to hit anything past 40 yards. That was the whole point of the defense. So he missed a 45-yarder because he can't kick over 40 yd. It wasn't luck at all. It was called strategy. Look it up. It's a known fact.
I was born in the middle of the Giants 1986 championship season, so I was obviously too young to understand the significance of their 1990 championship. But after reading about it, I have come to have great respect for Hostetler's resilience and perseverance.
There's something likable about this quarterback finally getting the chance to win a Super Bowl after being back up for six and a half years I thought he could have been a starter elsewhere I like his name too
Hostetler certainly could have been starter elsewhere. Hostetler originally attended Penn State. Despite starting 3 games during the 1980 football season, Penn State’s coaches thought Todd Blackledge was a better choice at the QB position. Hostetler transferred to West Virginia University at the end of the 1980 season. Hostetler sat out the 1981 season and ended being drafted in the 1984 NFL Draft. Had Hostetler held on to the QB position at Penn State he would have been drafted in 1983 along with Elway, Kelly, Eason, O’Brien, and Marino. Hostetler was a starter through and through. It makes one wonder how he would have developed had he been groomed as a starter immediately after being drafted. Hostetler’s quality of play was stellar during the 1990 post season.
Fantastic memories! A rugged bunch on both sides of the ball for the G-Men. Considering he was a back up to Simms… HOS was an excellent QB. I remember watching the Super Bowl that year. It was a hard fought battle and came down to the very end. A 42 yard FG is no gimme! Norwood pushed it right because a player was coming up the middle and had a shot of blocking it. Norwood tried to keep it from being blocked, but overcompensated thus pushing it “WIDE-RIGHT”!
It takes someone to have gone through hell and back to perform like Jeff Hostetler did that year, coming in for the injured Phil Simms. I don't know if Simms could have won that Superbowl that year as both Giants quarterbacks were tough enough, but the Giants needed a mobile quarterback against the Bills, and even with a perfect game plan, and perfect execution, they needed a missed field goal to barely beat them.
Watching this brings back incredible memories! But then I rememberer that the current Giants are 0-5 and are 9-28 in the Gettleman era. It's repulsive and embarrassing! NOT GIANTS FOOTBALL!
I hate when people say Jim Burt made a dirt hit on Hos's knee. Burt was pushed from behind and actually fell forward. As a long time Giant no way Burt would do that to his friends.
Unfortunately, there is no precise way to adjust the QB, WR, and RB achievements of players from the 1990s and earlier to the Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers of the new millenium to account for the HUGE amount of extra physical abuse that was allowed by defenses to punish players on the offense. Back then, defenses would purposely launch themselves helmet-first and purposely place the force of their entire body weight on QBs and WRs to pummel them into the turf. If there was a way to precisely adjust the performance of offenses to include the extra pain and fear that they played through, without all of the newer "unnecessary roughness" and "roughing the passer" penalties, the status of many of those players would be considerably elevated compared to QBs and WRs playing under the newer NFL rules that protect players more and favor the offense.
Exactly. Tarkenton was leading on most lifetime statistical records when he retired. He did more with less under immense pressure than any QB I’ve ever seen. The NFL today is akin to flag football. The absurdity of numbers.

A true Cinderella story....I remember this like it was yesterday when I was 17....
Thank you Jeff!

When Jeff only conceded a safety against Buffalo , It was huge. Look at that final score. Memorable Pat Summeral " There Will Be No Three Peat ! " 😎
What does him holding onto the ball have to do with Summeralls call?
Plus Jeff is currently the only QB to take down a two time defending sb champ on the road.
Awesome job, Hos! Remember those games well!
I got to give Jeff Hostetler Credit. He’s currently the only QB in NFL history to take down a two time defending SB champ on the road.

New York FOOTBALL GIANTS!
That guy seems pretty cool
That's crazy the giants were never the 1 seed in any of they're four superbowl titles 2 seed in 86 and 90. 5 seed in 07 and the 4 seed in 2011.

Toughest QB I ever saw wasThe Hoss!!!
I don't think Phil would have won us the superbowl that year.
That niners D would've ate him up. Just like they did on mnf. I totally agree.
Giants should have moved on from Simms after 90 and committed to Hostetler
Won them

The Hoss was the best
Maybe this is the same story as Colt MCcoy for the Giants ......
I would like to see how Tom Brady would have fared in this era of smashmouth football. Roughing the who?
