Susan is so self assured for such a young woman, in particular as she was under such pressure and standing up to Sam. What a class act.

That is a SPECTACULAR interview tape. Thanks Ms George for posting. I had never heard Peckinpah speak before. Obviously a very intelligent and thoughtful man. No one could have imagined what Straw Dogs was actually about until they heard Jerry Fielding's score married to the cut.

John Graves Peckinpah was intelligent and passionate, but also volatile. This is the man who brought us "The Wild Bunch", and I love him for that.

..thank you Susan......Wonderful clip. I was down at St Buryan a few weeks ago & they still have framed photos of you and the cast in the pub......Didn't manage to get to "Tor Noon" (Trenchers Farm) but maybe another day....

Fabulous footage. As a young teenager I had a huge crush on Susan. I’m an old man now. The years have flown by much too quickly for my liking..

4:20 Billy Cornellius in the middle, who played Oddbod junior in "Carry on Screaming" !!

@6:14 ….notice the attention to detail, a signpost with the names of fictional villages ( "Dando" was the name of the village in the book ), even though it was probably hardly glanced at in the finished movie.

The interviewing journalist might have a slightly more refined accent than journalists these days but he's exactly as slimy and obnoxious. Every single question is trying to stir up trouble or give him a controversial soundbite or embarrass the person he's talking to. He's like a kid in a playground trying to start a fight between two other people. Peckinpah sizes him up in an instant.
Journalist: Say that Cornish people are inbred and stuff!!
Peckinpah: People everywhere are like that, so are my own family.
Journalist: You've changed the book, shouldn't you be ASHAMED to do that?
    Peckinpah: No.
Journalist: Say that Cornwall is horrible!
Peckinpah: I like it here, I'm going to live here.

Interesting to see Colin Welland who played Rev. Barney Hood on location, I don't remember him in any exterior scenes.

Was the pub featured in the movie the actual local pub at the time in St Buryan ? Lots of conflicting stories about wether it was or not.

The interior was a stage shot.. Not the real pub. Although the exterior was real. Hope this helps.

The director himself claimed the film was not released exactly as he intended it...

Really, when are they for the most part? The only one that was released as intended was Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia which has become a cult classic.

    • @mandalayfilmclub
      @mandalayfilmclub 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah none of Sam's films were released as he intended except Alfredo Garcia - which, in my opinion, is his best films! Makes you wonder how much better his already fantastic films would have been had they been released as he saw. (With exception to his last few movies lol)
