- In this video I'll show you how to safely extract your own BIOS files to use with PS2 and PS1 emulators, thanks to a new tool that works with the official Sony PS3 firmware update file. These BIOS can then be used in many popular emulators like PCSX2, AetherSX2, DuckStation, and RetroArch.

Take a shot of kombucha every time I say “BIOS”.
I almost threw up trying kombucha. It felt like there was a loogie in it. Sorry.
I have shidded my pant
Still fewer than you say "a little bit" in any other video.
thanks. Now I have lactic acidosis.
how about game compatibility?
I'm very happy to have had a hand in testing and releasing these tools, Huge thank you to my Anon friend who made them. Hope everyone finds this method useful, and enjoy your games! :)
You sir are the best!!! Thanks EzOnTheEyes!!!
👍🏼
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUU, I wanted to play Rule of Rose SOOOO bad, got really worried when I downloaded PCSX2 and it asked for the BIOS file, but gladly there's an EZ fix, thank you 💖💖
This is awesome, do think there could be any chance to port this tool over to Mac M1 devices by any chance?
you are so goated you have no idea… blessings
Thank you!! This guide was super quick and comprehensive. Appreciate you man!!
Thank you so much! I was really struggling to figure this out and you explained it all so well!
Unbelievably good guide, exactly what I needed. Thank you.
This was so helpful! Thanks for making it easy! I thought I would have been at this for hours considering my lack of experience with simulators.
I cannot believe the timing of this video. Just tried to set up PCSX2 yesterday only to be disheartended that I needed an original PS2 BIOS. Thanks a million for this perfect walk though.
Yh fk that stupid shit. Nobody is gonna go out and spend $200+ on a PS2 just to play one game we miss and already purchased ages ago lol
Could you possibly help me
After weeks of trying it finally worked thank you so much!
Bless you!! I had been working at this for hours and you made it easy. Currently Playing NEOPETS THE DARKEST FAERIE!!! My childhood favorite game
Could you possibly help me?
Worked like a charm, thanks a million!!!
Bro, I have done so many tutorials and this one was the most helpful, thank you so much!!
Seeing you comment this just 3 days ago, makes me not regret my Xbox dev mode and flash drive purchase. Any tips?
I like that you also talked a bit about how to put your disk game files onto the PC at the end.
This is amazing, I have a few Japanese PS2 games but no PS2, so I was thinking I was at a dead end if I wanted to use the legal method to play them.
Worked perfectly, simple and great guide. Super happy this popped up on my recommendations. Thank you so much for covering it.
Guide worked. Thanks!
Thank you very much! This was helpful 👍
You and @EZOnTheEyes are goated for this. thank you
Thanks God we have people like u and EZ
Always dreamed to play mgs3 and u 2 are my saviors
7:00 To that I would add to check if the ISO is correctly dumped, you can do so in Duckstation by right mouse clicking the game - properties and compare hashes.
Best to do this because not all DVD/CD drives can dump PS1 discs properly.
Works perfectly. Thanks!
You're a legend, thank you!!
This worked thank you!
Thanks mate. Great stuff.
This allowed me to play games from my childhoood i thought i'd never be able to play again, appreciate this more than you know.
Dude, thank you! I've been looking for a legal way to do this for quite some time. I'm glad to see there is one (even if it is, sort of, loophole exploitation :)).
Were you able to get the download from playstation to work? It's now version 4.90 instead of 4.89 at the time of recording and I can't download it onto my computer.
@@joshuab.5060 I did it Tuesday and had no problem. What happens when you try to download it?
Thank you for this! Really helpful :)
Hey could you help me?
I extracted my PS Classic bios which worked well.
now thats what i call, awesome sauce!
OMG thank you so much, it helped me! BTW Sony now released a ps3 update so you need to get the update from another source, I got it from a page wich link I'll post in a reply, just in case is not allowed and the comment get removed!
i havent tried it but judging from these comments and the method of doing so i wanna thank you in advance!!
AMAZING THANK YOU
I love this channel's ost
THANK YOU!!
Thanks still works great
THANK YOU SO MUCH
I got a little excited and bought Xbox Dev Mode and a USB flash drive. I’m going to test this out tomorrow. I hope I can get it to work.
great video love you
YOU'RE A BEAST BRUH NOW I CAN PLAY BIG RED ONE
Good video. Would like to know if you know anything about modding the playstation classic? Thanks man.
if you know about using archive to dl the tools, then you also kmow the bios files for pretty much every system is there too. would it really keep you up at night that you donloaded the bios files from there and saved yourself these steps? I own a ps2 but im not gonna bother doing this. it's silly semantics.
There has been talks on the forums about psp version of ps1 bios having the best compatibility and speed, I haven't noticed it myself. It's there any such benefit with these bioses?
YEEEEESSSSS !!!!!!!
I LOVE YOU !!!!!!
😘😘🥰🥰
thank you so much !!!!!!
can play legendary games again !!!!!
The only thing that is missing in this bios method is the SCE boot up logo, memory card browser, CD player and DVD player which you don't ever need anyway. Also the PS1 boot logo is still there because it is embedded in the game, not the bios.
Yeah, it does feel kind of strange having the PS1 bootup logo in my PS1 roms but not the PS2 logo in my ps2 roms. That's a nitpick, though.
thnx for this tutorial.
This is awesome. I have a ps2 and ps3 but my fatal frame disc won't read anymore. I can finally play again without having to mod the consoles or spend an absurd amount on a new copy of the game
Thank you
I know this sounds like a dumb question but with what do you open the .bin ps1 and ps2 bios files? This is the first time i'm doing this so the option I have is to open them with adobe or word and those obviously don't work
My PlayStation 2 stopped being able to read PSx games so I'm glad I can get them and play my games on the steam deck with relative ease!
Out of curiosity, will the different region on the bios somehow affect the gameplay?
I noticed from your video that the PS2 bios is from Japan 🤔
No
My modded extracted ps2 bios is also detected as Japan. Not entirely sure why.
Hi mate I got those two bios files as you have demonstrated. I want to use these two bios files for the XBSX2 emulator on my Xbox Series X. What would I need to do now? Thanks mate
Perfect ✨
Now people can play their pirated ISOs in peace 🙏
This worked great. I used a VM to use the batch file, but otherwise it worked fine.
what is a vm im having a hard time using the batch file for the bios it just keeps trying to make me download a app that isnt there
How would this work if you have a Retroid 3+? Do you just drop the BIOS in the folder?
Thank you so much!
Quick question; say that most of my PS2 rom files are USA version, however I decided to download the EU region rom of Harry Potter 1 (because I want the correct "philosophers stone" title, not "sorcerers stone")... when emulating on nethersx2, do I need both the USA and EU bios files, or will the USA file be enough to run them all?
Also same question for ps1 files when most of my roms are USA and I want to run the EU version of Harry Potter 1 on ps1?
I looked at all the TH-cam channels about the PlayStation Vita can someone tell me when you're running retroarch where do you put the the BIOS in the emulators in using it through your your Vita shell
This is incredible! Thank you so much! The PS1 and PS2 are my favourite memories and I always want to replay them but on a more modern system but I have never done it because I didn't know how to legally and easily lol. Is this 100% legit? Seems way too easy lol. Thank you PS3, in the later life of this console it has been amazing! lol.
I still have my PS2, never can sell it as I love it but I'd prefer to play via emulation now. Does this method require I actually own a PS2 and PS3 console still? I am keeping it anyways but I am curious none the less. As I always assumed you are supposed to own said console and extract your own personal bios to legally play them emulated.
However I see this is just using the PS3's emulated PS1 and PS2 the same way Sony does itself, so I guess this is fine?
I didn't see any mention in the video unless I missed it, of legally do you have to own each console still?
Thanks.
Thanks
Ran into an issue at 4:40. So with the current version of PCSX2 I have installed (1.6.2), during the first time configuration menu it requires me to load a bios rom before it will install the emulator, so I'm not on the same screen as you are. I'm trying to load the bios file I have from that first time configuration menu, but it isn't showing up on the first time configuration menu. I put the bios file in Documents\PCSX2\bios and hit "refresh list" but its not showing up.
I looked in the properties menu of the bios file, and it is in fact a bin file, but its opening with the notepad app. Not sure if that is relevant, but thought I should mention it.
im having this same issue, find any fix?
당신덕분에 얼마나 도움 받는지 모른다 진심으로 감사하다
Are the bios files anyway work on Batocera ? I droped them in the bios folder. But it dont run the games
Once the PS1 bios is extracted, would putting this into the relevant bios folder on a Retropie installation mean that the PS1 emulator automatically uses it? Or will it continue to fallback to software emulated bios? I feel like I'm missing a step...
I think it goes in /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/
Also, make sure it's using it by opening a game, bring up the core options and set it so that using the BIOS is set to on, or HLE is off. Something like that, depends on what core you're using.
yo i keep getting this error every time i try to boot up rpsc3 idk what it means the code execution cannot because vulcan-1.dll was not found, reinstalling the program may fix this problem i’ve reinstalled it 3 times and downloaded the vulxan idk what to do.
you are the best
Awesome! Is there a way for this to work on Linux?
After I extract the bios files they are DVD files? Everything else seemed to work except when I dragged the ps3_ps1_bios and the ps3_ps2_emu_bios to my desktop and they were DVD files. Any idea where I went wrong? Also how do you open the Desktop ps2 emulator to where you can see the games? thanks
Hey Russ, are you gonna do a video on vita3k on android?
This doesn't work bc I can't extract the rscps3 stuff and also I can't find the system update for PS3
Im completely lost lol i need this broken down barney style 😅 i open the file and i dont see anywhere to "extract". And im trying to open the RPC file and it want to open in media player or word? I am not computer savy whatsoever. I just want to play some ps2 games 😅
I had the read/write error on PCSX2, this can be easily fixed with running as administrator.
Would this work in Retro Arch for both ? thanks
You should not skip steps. My only complaint. I’m having issues that he could’ve explained but skipped to the end
whenever i try to run ps1 games it says no bios image found for ntsc-u/c region
Interesting Note:
The ps1 bios you get from this will cause audio issues when using Duckstation to play Final Fantasy IV (Chronicles), specifically. This doesn't happen with any other game I've tried so far, and I rip all my own games. It's quite strange. Even stranger, it will on rare occasion not cause the audio issues.
If anyone sees this, and can offer me a hand, please do!
I’ve watched every video on how to have ps2 or ps3 emulator and no matter what I can’t do it I’m convinced I’ll never be able to do it it’s so frustrating is there any way some can take control of laptop and do it for me I’m willing to pay at this point
For some reason when I did this, the file went ahead and exploded and became so unorganized so I have to redo the steps.
Hello. How do you get it to work with emudeck on my Lenovo legion go ?
YOOOOOOOOOO THIS IS HUGE
Before this, you either had to mod a PS1 and buy a custom memory cart for the PS2, or alternatively, own a PS1 Classic. Glad to see these new advancements have been made to help make legal emulation that much more accessible.
doesn't PS2 have both bioses?
Doing this method is not legal apparently. Look at the comment section. Someone wrote about it.
@@DevoutSoldierYTI was about to say, this is still pirating a bios
Anyone have an issue where when you open PCXS2 it ask for bios and reads none ? I swear he should’ve included this.
The reason why you have to select "Fast Boot" is because these BIOs files do not contain the intros to the consoles unlike the original console BIOs.
On PS3, starting a PS1 or a PS2 game (either through a rom file, a PS Store Download, or a PS2 disc) will always flash either the PS2 or PS1 launch screen without having to play the intro.
I’m shocked that this has been found awhile ago. I believe the slim ps3 has an emulator for ps1 & 2 and all this does is take the bios out.
@@leelee7334 Yup. Unfortunately, PS3 models after the launch "Fat" model didn't come with official PS2 hardware meaning they had to use a combo of the PS3's HW and the PS2 BIOs to emulate the games.
Of course, some do work and play flawlessly while others don't.
bioS
I was able to follow this along and get the bios files. Im running into trouble getting the games to launch still as I am attempting this on a steam deck. I have put the bios files in the bios folder for emudeck and no luck. Any help would be appreciated!
have you managed to fix it? Emudeck doesn't see these files
Can i add it to retrobat i have the games but not the bios file for it i added a lot of diffs bios but no use i need ps1/2/3 bios
Can you boot the bios from the ps2 emulator to manage saves? PCSX2 emulator has a broken save management system.
Yeah you can, there is "run bios" option, it should be in first tab on main emu screen
So my PS2 bios files came with two extra files, and it says it’s not detected by emudeck but the PS one by us were
The PS3 update download isn't working for me. I right-clicked, clicked "save link as", and clicked "save" in the folder I wanted, but chrome simply didn't download it. There was no pop up or anything to indicate there even being an attempt to download it.
I just had to laugh when you showed a channel named "EZOnTheEyes" at 1:13 while TH-cam is on light mode c: For me, light mode is never easy on the eyes.
RPCS# does not download the correct files. when i try and open the application it is telling me i am missing a "VULKAN" file. how do i fix this? i have dowloaded it like 4 times over with no results.
Having the same issue. Wonder if anyone knows a fix
i cant get past the first page it says to add a valid bios and i cant move over that file or search up that file to add it the ps2 emualor
Why is it saying select an app to open this .bin file when i click on the ps3_ps2_emu. Helppppp 4:32
when i add the firmware to the file it says its not found and to reinstall it in the rpcs3 file Im not sure how to do that
There are 2 files in the zip drop down for step 1, and 1 and a 2 file with the same name, what am I supposed to use?
Edit: yeah so I did this up to the testing part and upon opening the new files I got a corruption prompt that the file might be corrupt. Tried adding the "2" file instead and it replaced the other, same thing it's corrupt. So not sure what to do here, currently this video is incomplete.
My BIOS files the bin files that I downloaded are saying unknown or corrupted... I'm frustrated. .😢 Idk what to do
sony updated the page to system software 4.90, does this change anything?
Ok I have just finished but I would like to ask is this method legit because to me it seems much better then downloading a bios online
Im stuck on the last step my rcps3 folder isnt the same as in the video
the PS3 PUP file
update isn't available on the playstation site anymore... WHAT DO I DO
Gonna try it for my Xbox here soon. I’ve been slowly turning into a nerd trying to relive my childhood. Learning terms like rom, bios, and fuck Bill Gates has been a hurdle but I’m getting there.
Does is work for the steam deck as well?
AetherSX2 doesn't read the bios file this way
It gives a "this bios image is invalid" notification
Prob a long shot but i will try😅, i wanna play the sly games but in my native language Norwegian, any way to change them from english, game has the language there
