im listening to this audiobook for a test tomorrow and im just laying in bed closing my eyes slowly drifting into sleep until BLOOP BLOOP scared the living HELL out of me. I thought someone hacked my computer lol.
It's a very sad story of, imo, stubbornness vs greatness. When he was pushed to study he was shown to have a great mind learning from others came so easy to him. However, when it came to the wilderness, he wanted to do it on his own without the knowledge that most people in the wilderness move forward with.. If he had only been open to learn from those who have lived are were living such a life, what a great contribution Chris could have made to mankind. He could have been brilliant in helping the enviornment as well as also been able to live off the land and on his own, he could have had it all had he just not been so stubborn. RIP
So much for Thoreau's theory that any excess food is constitutionally bad for a person. Extreme excess which is the current sad norm is certainly bad beyond doubt, but a healthy level of reserve bodily energy, especially if a person happens to be in Alaska, is no detriment; such a reserve may even at times be an essential for life.
It certainly wasn't the way of Chris to seek official help which may have come in response to a fire... if it was big enough. Most other people would likely not even think of doing such a thing - they would be more likely to expect some entitlement based rescue. Only a rare minded individual would do something so outside the box. I like to think that I would do something of the sort if I ever found myself in such a predicament.
