  • It took less time to get this project completed than any other that I've done in the last few months. Our ducks seem to be enjoying their new home as well. Thank you to everyone for Subscribing to my channel and for sharing my video's. It really has made a difference.

Thank you. I'd probably change the way the front is for easier cleanout as well as the nesting box area. But all in all, our ducks were happy with the coop. If you do decide to build one, please let me know how it goes?

If you want your Duck house to last a whole lot longer, you should paint/seal the inside as well as the outside.
Otherwise the inside can still draw moisture and will swell, shrink, warp, and twist under temperature and moisture changes and eventually the plywood will separate since one side is seal and the other side isn’t! Unless you’re using a waterproof treated material that’s already sealed? Unfortunately many people don’t know that wood can swell or shrink up to a 1/4” in extreme temperature and moisture changes. Take it from a woodworker that’s been in the business majority of my life. Even when raise panel doors are made for inside homes, the inside panels are cut a 1/4” smaller to allow for expansion. Otherwise if the panels were cut exactly to size the panels would swell and the stiles and rails on the outside of the panel would be split apart at the joints making doors garbage in no time!
In some cases I have seen people just finish the outside of their cabinets inside the home, in the attempt to save money and time! Unfortunately within usually 6 months the doors of the cabinets will be ruined. Do yourself a favor and at least use Tomoson’s water seal on the inside before leaving it outside

While I can agree that if painted or sealed with something inside the coop, the wood will last much longer. I know this as I also work with wood quite a lot and am familiar with the issues you've mentioned. I could have also used treated wood but both of those would be an unhealthy choice for the ducks. This is why I never paint or do anything to the inside of the coops or any other wood projects I build for animals. I do appreciate the comment and suggestion though.

That looks really good how do you clean it

That’s a great question, Kimberly. I’ve been able to use a rake and remove the hay from the front end and have removed the hay from the nest boxes by hand. If I were to build this again, I think I’d make the entire front section to open on hinges to make it easier though.

I was thinking if you adjusted one side to be a little Gap where you can spray it out with a hose pipe maybe like on the floor and then have the hard wire stuff put down so couldn't nothing get in I have six ducks just looking for some ideals on my budget with no tools to build like you do it really look good though

@@kimberlysnider4285 that idea might work for easy cleaning but leaves the coop open to the elements. That might make it more problematic for keeping the coop clean as well as not giving the ducks shelter in inclement weather. Clean out isn’t too difficult with the way it’s currently built. Putting the vinyl flooring down has really helped too. If you’re using hay, that will be easier to remove and might last longer than shavings. Ducks are messy no matter what though (lol). Good luck with your ducks.
