I had the privilege of being a part of these beautiful ceremonies and traditions at temple with family in a small village in Nam Phong for the very first time. It was genuinely touching to be apart of it all!
Hello Ryan and Damo! It is so nice to see the traditional way to celebrate Songkran. what a beautiful and happy family! I loved every scene in the movie. Good to see you guys. stay safe and healthy 🙏
Such a beautiful video Damo and Ryan! Damo's family is so incredibly lovely, and supportive. Damo and Ryan, Otis and Hugo are so lucky to be surrounded by such love. I see that respect for our elders is a lost practice this day in age among many, so knowing that Damo and her family, as well with you showing such respect to her parents is warming to the heart!!! Having experienced Songkran in the past for some years, it is not only a fun holiday, but truly humbling and beautiful when one actually studies it. I believe that water represents a cleansing and re-birth, dying to one-self to bring about a new life and new experiences, spoken of in the Christian world as baptism, and I am sure in other cultures and beliefs as well. Thank you again for educating us and sharing your lives. I look forward each day when I sign on to watch another video! God Bless!!
Hi Ryan and Damo thank you both for showing us the true authentic culture I have a lot of respect for Buddhism baby Hugo is getting big and Otis is such a lovely boy bless them both
Another deeply moving and inspiring video of an amazing family's love and tradition! I love the "village family" and how everyone has their share of participating and respecting each other. Tis and Hugo are so blessed to have been born into this. They will know, soon enough, how amazing this all is. Blessings and big love to you, Damo, Tis, Hugo and the all of the family.... I feel privileged to have been able to watch! 🤗💖🙏🌧
It is refreshing to see a westerner’s YT channel about living in Thailand that is not about Pattaya, Phuket, or what an incredible condo you can get for a bargain.
Hey Ryan and Damo and Otis and new baby Otis, for some reason I missed this one. The rain at the end was nice, here in Bangkok it has been very sunny and no rain. Maybe we didn't throw enough water up into the air. I liked the Songkran Festival you guys do and I find that in different areas of Thailand people celebrate in different ways. The village where my friend is from they do it similar to what you guys do. The have all the older people, me included, in a row and then the younger people come through and pour water over their hands and then everyone eats.
Thank you Damo and Ryan for sharing rural Songkran with us! I have just recently learned about the ordainment during Songkran in one of my Thai lessons, and it's really neat to see it in your video! The plants and animals are going to love the rain!
Love the high definition ideas of animals , planets, reptiles, ect.. good broll makes the videos stand out like a National Geographic episode.. great video
Lovely ❤without taking the limelight out of your lovely son and wife ,but seeing the young lad who had tears at the start of the line 2:05 with his sister ..awww bless them .Yep i welled up 🤦♂
There is a traditional Songran song that describes what to do on that day from morning to night. It is a song for rum-wong (Thai dancing) by Suntharaporn. Listen to it and you will understand Songran better.
Great vlog guys! Great to see all the traditional Songkran celebrations 🎉 Nice for the family introductions too! Nice to see some of Damo family. Wow! Looking forward to the next one, with the land for sale. Interesting .
Happy Sunday. Always watching. Liking. I do not always comment. The traditional form. I appreciate it more. Maybe my age. Aries, my birth month. The tomatoes look lovely. Homegrown always tastes the best. The salad looks delicious. Loved this video. Great respect. Life lessons show us our responsibilities. Family. Brothers and sisters are a blessing. I have to be honest. I do have bathtub envy every time I see your bathtub. A good day, playing board games. I hope everyone was safe. Rain always cleanses. Have a wonderful day.
Another wonderful insight into your idyllic life in the Buriram area. I love the traditional Songkran rather than all the water fights. (I must be getting old!) You were very fortunate to get some rain! Up here in Khon Kaen it has got very cloudy and humid with 40+ degrees every day but still no rain 😞 It hasn't rained at all since last December! Still, at least water is not too expensive here and the garden and my birds get their food and drink. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us Ryan and Damo + Otis and Hugo. God bless you all, always 😀❤🙏
I always look forward to learning more of your traditions as we go through life! Thank You for sharing! I’m glad you all got some well deserved rain! 🌧️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Damo and Ryan to share with us a very different Songkran than Bangkok's Ryan, are you still filming with the DJI Pocket 3? The colrs of the garden seems so bright and vivid. And Damo, how many brothers ans sisters do you have? 4?
Great video! During a trip to Chiang Mai, I first tried som tam from a young street food vendor who enjoyed watching me struggle to eat it. It was the spiciest thing I've ever eaten, but also the most delicious. Your mother's som tam looked amazing. I can't wait to have real, authentic som tam again soon, but maybe with fewer chilis. ❤
I like to think religion is the wrong word, it is part of the framework of their lives. Guidance on how to be a good person in this life. Many of these people have so very little but appreciate the simplest of things and give everything to those who need it more.
When you are growing tomatoes, trim off the lower limbs and cut off the suckers when the plants are about two feet tall , and the plants will produce more tomatoes
I envy and love genuine native cultures and Thai culture is fantastic. They are wealthier than any capitalist (including me) or dictatorial ideologue that infects our world. I only hope the younger generations respect and understand how lucky they are and carry on the traditions and culture.
This is a real traditional activity. Children gather to pay respect to their parents. There's another one similar happen at the temple where people pour fragrance water on the Buddha statue to pay respect.
Not to be a wise-ass but a small correction. Boys can't actually be ordained as monks, they are actually samaneras (novices) since ordination is only allowed to those over the age of 20. The basic distinction is that samaneras only follow 10 precepts.
The amount of times I’ve been stabbed in the back as walking life’s path , not enough water in the world to wash away the sins of the knife holders, song - Tap turns on the water = C,C,S.
It's not just in thailand, it's all TheraVada buddhist in china to India. Please, don't make up bs and assume things when you don't know what is going on. We don't need your blasphemy.
Firstly, what are you referring to? Secondly, you should then know that Dharmic religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, have no concept of blasphemy
Am not so spiritual, yet Buddhism seems very peaceful and humanitarian. The rituals and celebrations are a way of bringing the village together as well. Damo's Som tam papaya salad looks delicious Aroy mak mak. Lulu getting big

I am not a very religious person but Buddhism seems different. More humanist and i really love the values.
Yes that’s quite right 🙏

Beats having a sunday roast lol but I bet you still miss them lol

Quite right. I’m reading from a script provided by damo and I don’t think she knew how to make this distinction- but good for other to know 👍🙏🇹🇭
Actually the foreigner like you know better, that was the past in Bangkok when I grew up more than 60 years ago
I leave town when Songkran starts , it use to be polite and fun Now its aggressive and dangerous.
💛💚🧡💛💚🧡💛💚✌🏼🧡
Wonderful ❤ shame in the UK we don't have the same respect and forgiveness.

So girls train pretty early for silent treatment 😀
P.S. What is up with that?? I didn't hear of any good explanation for it.
