Same, C1 is such a great jack of all trades ship. It's fairly affordable, it looks great. I think it deserves to win this year.
It's the introverts dream. One person, good defenses, quiet to sensors, out looking for cool stuff. What isn't there to love? She's easy to fly, small enough to land just about anywhere, and can take a knock if you do make a mistake. If we could move the center chair somewhere else it would be amazing. Love it, take it almost everywhere and wouldn't swap it for anything.

@@wifegrant C1 is a great ship, without discussion but because Terrapin need more attention from CIG i voted for turtle. Right now this ship can only be a tank, and nothing more. No internal storage, no cargo, no scanning, akward placed seat in center of ship. I would love to use terrapin for FPS Contracts but in 3.24 You cant even store any equipment or loot inside.
Also medical Terrapin variant would be great, with single tier 3 bet. This would be more than enough to put som life into this beatifull creation.

My dream Terrapin is a variant that moves the seat behind the pilot, slaves it to a remote turret (Maybe the F8C's turret?) in place of the scanning dish and has a cargo grid for +-12 SCU.

Also have the doors open on both sides for easy loading and unloading. The doors are present on both sides. You can see it on the model. But our variant has stuff lined up against the wall so the door is disabled.
Agreed. But they need to full-proof, finish up the Esperia Prowler to give it a stealth cloaking feature for a short period. Before needing to recharge.

You can actually fit quite a bit of cargo in it. Easily 9-10 SCU with still being able to get in and out of the ship. 11 or 12 if you trap yourself in and maybe as much as 20 if you're good at Tetris.
It's unsecured, but it works great. I did my first hauling runs in my Terrapin. It's so small and easy to fly that it makes positioning it to load extremely easy and makes the atmospheric landings no-fuss.
It actually does a really good job.
lol, I usually just stick two 2-SCU containers in there to go on looting runs. But with the 3.24 cargo changes your idea actually would work.
I cringed when I heard 0 scu officially. Doesn't fit with explorer style scenario when nowhere to store your food!
I would love to see a medivac version. Replace the scanning suite with an powerful shield array that can be deployed for a short duration while picking up a downed player/npc.
Medivac turtle would be awesome!

I never saw the point or why people were so obsessed with it before this video, so I do think these videos are probably worth making. High production, too, so that's always appreciated.
This is actually a really neat segment you have done here. I know you have talked about Morphologist here a few times, but I think a few collaborations with you two on ships could be neat, him on the architecture and function vs. design, and you on the gameplay and how practical the layout of everything is in the game. And even if you want to keep it just yourself, I like this style of ship discussions. Not a review, just a talk about its use.

More content? Yes please! As I already mentioned on X me and my crew have been using Terrapin to carry drugs from JT to station as long as the event's been around. Can't wait to see it feature ready one day tho.
This is a great in verse buy when you have the ships you want, and now you want a really tough, c8 Pisces (the medical c8 Pisces is a general must buy (if no small ships) unless you getting a nursa holder, or a cutlass red (groups of 4 or more usually.) This is the ultimate let you friend first time box ship. I tried dropping it from about 10 meters on the pad like three times in a row. It's so fun going f4 and hitting your "open all doors" button and watching them jump in , fps bullets flying. Turning the engines, boosting off to the stars, guiding ya'll out of the black.

Been hard because I've campaigned against the good ol' Turtle in the other rounds, too. I love the ship but, like you said, it is the poster child for ships that could be absolutely awesome but don't have their gameplay in at all. Was strange comparing it to the Gladiator (which I also love...so much...I hope she gets some CIG love soon) and realizing at least the poor old Gladiator could do what it says even if it needs some serious tuning. REALLY hope the Terrapin gets some rework and make that center section more general use and this can become a good alternative for exploration between the 315p and the Connie Aquilla while being the overall go-to for going into contested zones to scan.

@@SpaceTomato Yet one of the coolest looking. If they pull the whole Hornet MkII thing and just make a new upgraded model instead of balancing the old ship I'm going to have some harsh words for CIG that they won't care about or listen to anyway. Biggest thing that gets me is a major role in lore with an epic story of a squadron leaving one system, flying through a jump point, then traveling to a planet and fighting to try and rescue some people then in game it barely has the quantum fuel to get from one planet to another.

I would love a courier variant of the Terrapin. strip that seat out of the back and put a small cargo grid in. Maybe make the lighting inside less gloomy.
I can definitely see it being a small medivac ship as well. The bed could be modified to function as a low level medical bed as well as your normal bed.

This little turtle has my vote today!! Regarding beds, has CIG spoke on what they plan to do with beds? It seems like a lot of space that is taken up, especially in ships like Idris or even the Carrack, for no reason now.

It’s a great ship and perfect for small crews or solo, but when exploration releases I have my carrack for this reason. If I’m out exploring, I want to live like a nomad, and having a large ship like the carrack will allow for extended time in the void without having to make many pit stops. Still gotta give love to the terrapin though!

Maybe a ship review series split into 2 ships per episode. 1 ship that has its gameplay already in like the C1 and the other ship in limbo like the Terrapin. Then you get a what is and what could be series for contrast and different take on the review type videos.

Honestly one of my favorite ships is the Nomad. It’s homey, useful, packs a bunch and a bit of a tank. Very similar to the Terrapin except it’s solo and not stealth capable.
MY hope is that ships can share real time scanner data, letting a Terrapin hide outside of combat but use its scanner to see the whole battle space and share that data with combat ships. Meaning if the Terrapin can see an enemy fighter form 30 , now you can as well, maneuvering to get into a good attack angle before they even know you are there. AWACS

It's a nice little hull. But the sweaty secretly spying space van for me still is the Herald.
I would love to see the chair moved forward and a small kitchen / living area for deep space reconnaissance gameplay
I totally voted for the Turtle. I'd like the C1 more if the 1) I didn't need to change seats to use the tractor beam and 2) The movement on the tractor beam required to move cargo in and out didn't require mouse based acrobatics at the olympic level.
Actually you can turn the Terrapin into a small drop ship for a squad by adding a few chairs meant for hangars and 1 to 2 SCU of unsecured cargo for supplies. Optimal, probably not...but far more durable than any standard drop ship and in a small compact package.
No note that this is a premium stealth platform. It’s a key feature. With three coolers, this thing can come out of a hard engine burn and disappear in seconds.
The air frame would be a good basis for more variants. Id be interested in an electronic warfare variant. Rescue ships we already have enough of

I voted for it. I have one. Flies great, looks cool, and takes a hit. Needs the option of a cargo grid and 2 Size 3 weapon hard points as well as the current size 2 hard points.

Love this ship, it's just so cozy inside and bad-ass looking on the out. When I go into my private investigator moods, this is my main ship.
Ship reviews similar in style to this would be awesome.
Its loved because it has the armor and speed to resist and get away from the mass murder fantasy types that troll and grief in certain areas of the game.
It's a turtle. If you don't feel like fighting, you can just ignore whoever is shooting at you and casually quantum out. It has the same HP as an A2 in a tiny little ship.

I love this ship! It needs a combat variant by taking out the scanner and putting a turret with 2 size 5 cannons on it. Thus we would have an actual tank ship! The turtle tank!
i just always thought it was wasted internally, id love a couple cargo spots, and a turret(perhaps 1x size 4, 2x size 3 or even 4x size 2 choices) on top for a friend to do some light hot drops for loot boxes, since the pilot weapons are not competitive at all, just being able to run away and have a deterrence or landing zone defense up while your grabbing a crate. i feel like the 2 player experience is the more common outside of big org game play, since its easy to get one mate to play but hard to get a group on at the same time, especially when its always difficult to meet up with new players who don't know their way.
The moving armor made me fall in love with the terrapin. The out of game price made me buy a cutter 😅
Gimme a 2-SCU variant without that scanning chair to do super expensive but also dangerous cargo missions in my beloved Turtle tank. ... Or bring that Medi-variant... I'd buy it instantly, no matter what!

It would be the best medical variant. Tough, quick, and reasonable sized, plus a ramp entrance from the side and plenty of space inside to set up beds or treatment facilities or even a small lab. Gib Terrambulance
I don't even consider ships that have their gameplay missing :(

The Terrapin is one of my favorite ships but also one I don't currently own. It has so much potential with the platform, and like was mentioned, a medical variant would be top of my list (it could have doors on either side instead of just one), but also a personal exploration version, a dropship, or a small VIP transport. I'm sure there are even more ideas people can come up with for a small armored ship, but those are just off the top of my head.
Imagine if the utility mount could be swapped out for a quad-cannon turret, controlled by the pilot. The Terrapin would be a very different ship then. lol

I just want a mobile AWACS to provide data link or something to track stealth ships and accumulating targets that are outside of scanner range.
Using it as pirate vessel to go after soft targets like ROC Miners solo or Miners/Salvagers with support would also be great!

I would like a deep dive series into what each ship was initially billed as, side by side with where it is now and what it could be in the future. I also think the Terapin should get several variants, a medical, drop ship, and cargo.
I believe a ships life support will determine how many passengers it can carry. So I guess they'll be limiting how long you can stay alive on your suit air in the future. Larger ships should be alright, but the medium and small ones will struggle.
I haven't even touched the Terrapin. I know nothing of it.

The front thrusters blow all their heat straight into the rear ones. They need to be fixed to sit a little further out..... and get rid of the chair.
Terrapin was my favourite ship before I even pledged. Wish to goodness it was a two crew ship though
It is a two person ship (still soloable of course), listed as a crew of 1 to 2. It was originally intended that the crew could "hot bunk" and share the bed to work in shifts. This was originally thought to be problematic for bed logging, but based on the changes/plans Tomato touched on with the clip he added to the video, that won't be a problem anymore.

Imagine how ship designs would look if thrusters actually emitted plasma fire and the thrust was impacted by what is blocking. Imagine standing in a hangar with the engines filling the space with fiery exhaust.

I'd just prefer it with a single seat that moved on rails to the back for complex scanning and to the cockpit when flying.
If the Terrapin can get updated to adopt a more Cutter attitude, with a side scanning station and a cargo grid in the middle it would be a zillion times nicer.
As for limit crew, even if they remove bed logging *on ships* which I'm still not convinced they will do, there are other ways to soft enforce crew limits and one of the nicest/most realistic would be by life support capacity. It takes a much more robust life support to handle 10 people versus 1 versus 100.
Life support could work. But I'd you can hop in and out of atmosphere it's not as effective. Will be interesting to see how it goes.
@@SpaceTomato See, I think that's why it's a good option. It's a soft limit not a hard one enforced through code, but rather systemic. Can you drop in and out of atmo to refill? Sure, but that's a thing you can do to have control, but it's obviously not ideal.
How many times in scifi do we have the situation, you've got tons of people to evacuate, they fit on the ship but the life support can't handle it so you're forced to only take some of them. Heck this even came up in the Expanse.
I love the design of the Terrapin, however I feel like it lacks a bit of utility in its present configuration. Hopefully a second pass at it will result in some variants that have greater functionality!
I just want a little side-loading cargo variant of like 16 to 20 SCU. It's all I ask.
It is basically useless but with a cult following for its odd charm and potential. It really should be reworked to maximize that potential and be given variants.
Replace the back seat and empty interior with a living space for 1 varian and then add a medical bay in back for 2nd variant. The chassis is ideal for being a rough tough small/medium single-seater scout that could be a live in explorer or medical rescue. Its obviously not going to be a combat ship and that's ok.
