Skarner needs exactly 1 change to be viable. A crystal shrine in the top and bot lanes in the little alcoves. They might need to be nerfed though if they do that. I know he only needs that to be viable, because he can be a total monster in ARAM. He is viable on the howling abyss because there are always shrines where you're fighting your opponents. It triggers an instant mini game where you're always fighting for control of the shrines for short bursts of vision, the small bit of gold you get, and preventing Skarner from being scary. I'd also like to see his ultimate leave a temporary, smaller AoE shrine at the location you drag your ult target to that makes fighting him there sorta like fighting Illaoi. But I think baby steps are key here. Let's start with that first change. Also, his Q doesn't do much damage because it can fire off a lot, and it's essentially a glorified sheen activating skill. Ravenous Hydra is also incredibly good on him due to just how often he can spam Q. Navorri + Galeforce with lethal tempo is also silly, you can essentially perma CC someone and the slide + move speed on Gale Force is crazy stronk combined with your ult.
My god this sound good and feasible. Just a little rework of his current mechanics and voilà. It's more proof Riot doesn't actually care at all about anything that doesn't sells skins.

As ARAM player, it is true Skarner is real monster! He is like Gwen i think, once you got Q, he will attack like crazy. Very unfortunate Riot didnt like monsters champ. They really pay attention to something pretty like seraphine, ahri, etc.
"Why doesn't my ability deal any damage?" +0AD, +0AP from runes and items. If you want skarner Q to do damage then you really have to be using on cool down, noting that it is reduced by basic attacks. It usually has a 1-1.5 second coolown if you're attacking, so pretty much every (or every other if you're getting the bonus AS from landing your E) basic attack can be followed by a Q.
Skarner has been one of my mains for a long time, you can do some really fun builds with him, High CDR / Attack speed you basically E, stun and kill with lethal tempo. Or stack movement speed and go tank and just ult their carry. You can literally have an URF E with high enough CDR since when you auto them it lowers the cooldown

I wasn’t even aiming at him I was fighting someone else and as I ulted them, apparently a nocturne was flying by and somehow I managed to grab him. Fun jg build for skarner that will let you 1v1 most champs: black cleaver, frozen fist and then phantom dancer or titanic hydra depending on how tanky you want to be. Whatever boots you want plus whatever two tanky items at the end. I take lethal tempo and ghost with this build. I max q first as you will be spamming a 6% max health damage ability every second with the attack speed you get from phantom dancer and lethal tempo (Q cd is 2.5 seconds at max rank and is reduced by 1 sec every time you auto a champ). I max w second for the extra speed and max e last.
I love how little rell is played because it means I always get to play her, I’m excited and nervous for rells rework because it will be awesome to see her get some improvements but at the same time I don’t want her to be played a hell of a lot or get banned a lot😂
You should try this build for skarner jungle, i played it and it was such a fun game. First the runes: Conqueror, triumph, alacrity, last stand, trascendence, water walking, then hability haste, adaptive force and health. For items go Trinity Force into boots (the ones you prefer), then thornmail and force of nature (it depends from the other team), then cleaver, deadman's plate. I f you need it you can also buy chempunk chainsaw. The Summoner spells are smite and ghost/flash, it depends. Prioritize maxing R first, then Q, W and E. You can go so fast, deal so much damage and tanking a team. If you are comfortable with jungle, which i honestly don't know myself because i always see you playng supp/mid/top, you should definitly try it.

At rank 5, Skarner would need to Q 17 times, and Qs ~3 times every 2 seconds, which would take about 11 seconds. Another thing to consider is that this is AOE damage.
You dont need to E him before ulting the ult automaticly applies the E effect so E him (stun) -> Q -> auto attack -> R is the most broken combo for dps

Video idea for you Zwag, I've seen iterations of this before but never completely tried. Exploiting the shotgun auto's on Graves. Crit graves common, bruiser graves common... but Crit Graves makes him fire more pellets right? And Black Cleaver applies armor shred for each pellet hit. So can you build crit AND cleaver to completely reduce an enemies armor to max cleaver stacks in 1 auto attack? Bearing in mind the armor shred helps for all physical damage your team deals, not just you. I would probably go Essence Reaver into IE then BCleaver but there's plenty of choices after that. BT? Quickblades? +Mythic?
skarners q being entirely % based means it really sucks early game but is a beast of a skill late game. Most other % based damage stuff has base damage first

I used to play Skarner years ago. He was fairly decent. But never better than average imo. Even then his Q served no purpose but to enable Sheen procs. He fell off a cliff when Riot locked all his power behind the stupid crystal mini-game.

They just need to add cc immune to w. Just slows, roots and stuns. still make make him vulnerable to knock up and fears. But for the short speed boost he gets from w, the cc immune should last that long. It really wouldn't be overpowered. Or change his passive to gather crystals when he uses an ability, instead of having these pockets around the map that are a pain in the ass to control.
all you needed to do was tell twitch to auto the nexus when a dragon was up. Heck when you went to back door as skarner you could have told twitch to do it and YOU stop the enemy recalls. Honestly people overrate dragons. Dragons rarely win you games, they are just a slight stat buff and mostly an indication of which team is better (excluding clutch jungle smite steals). The second the nexus is exposed you should be looking to backdoor with whoever can kill the nexus the fastest, in this case twitch but you never told him to do it. Cant blame low elo players for mistakes when you're smurfing and still trying to backdoor with a tank skaarner...You could have won that if you did more of telling them what to do ahead of time and less flaming them after the fight. Bad macro lost you the game way more than any mistakes of your team.
Skarner is much more viable with a sundered bruiser build using deaths dance, gargoyles, thornmail, force of nature. GARGOYLES can be swapped for any other armor or Magic resist item as needed. Deaths dance provides armor damage and survivability. Building it second item keeps your damage early in the realm of reasonable and allows Divine healing to keep you healthier through fights. Also while phase rush, I'm sure, was fun, aftershock does far more for skarners kit overall. AP off tank skarner is also viable.
All they'd have to do to make Skarner more viable is to add some of his little circle buff things in lanes as well. I could have sworn there used to be some. They give him the extra boost to stats he desperately needs for his kit to be effective, and restricting him to jungle by only having them there is dumb. It's why literally nobody plays him.
I kinda want to see you play this again but go Heartsteel and Steraks Skarner instead. Keep all the movement runes so you can run in and out of combat and heal up.

Video idea for you Zwag, I've seen iterations of this before but never completely tried. Exploiting the shotgun auto's on Graves. Crit graves common, bruiser graves common... but Crit Graves makes him fire more pellets right? And Black Cleaver applies armor shred for each pellet hit. So can you build crit AND cleaver to completely reduce an enemies armor to max cleaver stacks in 1 auto attack? Bearing in mind the armor shred helps for all physical damage your team deals, not just you. I would probably go Essence Reaver into IE then BCleaver but there's plenty of choices after that. BT? Quickblades? +Mythic?
Remember the times when Skaner was most broken champ in the game with 70% winrate?

skarners q being entirely % based means it really sucks early game but is a beast of a skill late game. Most other % based damage stuff has base damage first

HEY MY BOY SKARNER! Been playin him a ton since I heard his rework was coming and I honestly have come to love him. I just hope the rework is good and not a totally foreign gameplay loop.
If you ever get the itch to try this again, I would recommend Cleaver first or second item. OR if you are feeling REALLY frothy, go for Manamune. HUGE damage boost from Muramana on Q spam

I'm one of those maniacs that actually like Skarner, and generally have good games when I get him in ARAM
I used to play Skarner years ago. He was fairly decent. But never better than average imo. Even then his Q served no purpose but to enable Sheen procs. He fell off a cliff when Riot locked all his power behind the stupid crystal mini-game.
Skarner was my first champion and super fun to drag someone to your team haha

I recommend Sunderer or Tri-Force, but Everfrost is cool too (pun not intended) because it gives the E and R boost in damage plus the extra CC is tilting
I also recommend Aftershock because pulling someone will keep the enemy near you, guaranteed Aftershock hit, plus it gives a ton of defense while also deals damage
Salty swag is pretty entertaining tbh
They just need to add cc immune to w. Just slows, roots and stuns. still make make him vulnerable to knock up and fears. But for the short speed boost he gets from w, the cc immune should last that long. It really wouldn't be overpowered. Or change his passive to gather crystals when he uses an ability, instead of having these pockets around the map that are a pain in the ass to control.

all you needed to do was tell twitch to auto the nexus when a dragon was up. Heck when you went to back door as skarner you could have told twitch to do it and YOU stop the enemy recalls. Honestly people overrate dragons. Dragons rarely win you games, they are just a slight stat buff and mostly an indication of which team is better (excluding clutch jungle smite steals). The second the nexus is exposed you should be looking to backdoor with whoever can kill the nexus the fastest, in this case twitch but you never told him to do it. Cant blame low elo players for mistakes when you're smurfing and still trying to backdoor with a tank skaarner...You could have won that if you did more of telling them what to do ahead of time and less flaming them after the fight. Bad macro lost you the game way more than any mistakes of your team.

Skarner is much more viable with a sundered bruiser build using deaths dance, gargoyles, thornmail, force of nature. GARGOYLES can be swapped for any other armor or Magic resist item as needed. Deaths dance provides armor damage and survivability. Building it second item keeps your damage early in the realm of reasonable and allows Divine healing to keep you healthier through fights. Also while phase rush, I'm sure, was fun, aftershock does far more for skarners kit overall. AP off tank skarner is also viable.
All they'd have to do to make Skarner more viable is to add some of his little circle buff things in lanes as well. I could have sworn there used to be some. They give him the extra boost to stats he desperately needs for his kit to be effective, and restricting him to jungle by only having them there is dumb. It's why literally nobody plays him.
I don't really have a main, but I love playing Skarner just because he's rather fun and also people don't know how he works

I kinda want to see you play this again but go Heartsteel and Steraks Skarner instead. Keep all the movement runes so you can run in and out of combat and heal up.
