    There are 4 big mistakes almost every trader makes. Luckily, they can be easily fixed. These mistakes I highlight in this video are probably things you haven't heard before.
    Luckily we can flip these points around and come up with a very powerful trading strategy. Charlie Munger once said, "problems frequently become easier to solve if you turn them around in reverse... unless you're more gifted than Einstein, inversion will help you solve problems".
    This is what I did in this video. I use inversion to show you exactly why 90% of traders lose money, and how you can capitalize on their mistakes.

      I am adamant about one thing: if you are on the hunt for success in any field or any walk of life and have not yet acquired it, then perhaps you have been looking in the wrong places. I have been trading for few years without success until 2019 back after I learnt about the *SQB AMAC strategy by Yuril Zubong* and the information I received changed my trading for good. I now rarely make losing trades and when I love it nothing compared to my winnings . This is the life I always wanted. A life of winning . Yuril taught me even without knowing me, he will teach you too. It is very funny that it is when we are just an email or a call away that we give up- Just send that email to yuril.

      I have an entirely different strategy and it works for me. I don't think there are there rules that everyone needs to follow in order to be profitable. Do what works for you. You did make some good remarks regarding human psychology which I thought were correct. Emotional people that are going to trade with this strategy are going to lose. This works for you, great. I just wouldn't ever make a video instructing other traders about their strategy.

      "instructing other traders about their strategy."
      In my opinion he did no such thing. If you are a trader you should have the half a brain you need to figure this out on your own and probably shouldn't be watching such tutorial videos. Now if you were a shit trader, you might be watching a video on why you are failing, in which case this may be well heeded advise.

    I'm afraid Trading is a lot more complicated than that video implies, but I highly suggest you disregard the advice in this video about holding onto losing trades.
    Going into a trade has two simple outcomes:
    1. you are correct.
    2. you are wrong.
    And if you were wrong, it might bounce back around into a positive outcome later on...or it might not, in which case you are now losing even more money than if had you exited that trade earlier. And it can go quite lower/higher still after that...There are no guarantees that it will swing back your way.
    As a trader, You NEVER want to be in a position where you rely on faith, hope and luck on your trade.

      I think what is missing is how you buy and sell so you minimize the chance of loss when you enter. I buy in increments. That way if I’m wrong I can counter with increments to get the right pricing and thru out the day always steadily increase my position only when things are going my way

    Overtrading exposes many beginners to too much risk. By doing this, you are not insulating yourself from the market. In fact, you might as well be trading randomly. You should only trade when you think you have the advantage, and ensure you always trade according to your plan.

      An even larger risk for beginners is over-diversifying by trading too many positions at the one time. By doing this, you leave yourself open to market risk, making it much harder to spot which positions and trades work. I disagree with not letting profits run and cutting losses short, if a trade is going in your favour, then you should periodically move up SL to protect profits (previous market structure dictating the position of SL, i.e if riding an uptrend, you should move up SL to previous lows every time a high is made). Conversely if a trade is going against you, then one should look for an exit, and then look for a reentry opportunity should it present itself again. It's better to exit at -£50 rather than hold a losing trade at -£500 hoping for the markets to reverse.

Why this happens is he gets reference in his mind looking at charts which has huge upside.. Instead your stop loss should be a bit further in range than target profit, for example stop loss at 95 and profit at 103. Not bad for a quick day trade. That's what I do and been by far profitable.

  • @QuantumBraced
    @QuantumBraced 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think you got it backwards. The vast majority of retail traders trade reversals, not breakouts. So they end up trying to catch falling knives and get wiped out by trends. And the vast majority let the losers run and cut the winners short because they're extremely loss averse, so they keep extending their stop losses until they essentially bet all of their money on one trade and eventually get wiped out. Everyone buys into weakness, and the vast majority lose, because weakness is usually followed by more weakness. But doing the reverse doesn't work any better either. The reality is, 90% lose money because the market is a zero-sum game and big institutions have a lot more tools at their disposal, so there isn't a "right" strategy other than having a lot of experience and doing a lot of homework. No rule like "sell into strength" is going to make you money because there are just as many exceptions as cases where the rule works. There's no simple answer to making money in the stock market.

  • @mwil619
    @mwil619 7 ปีที่แล้ว +63

    the most important part of why 90 fail is because they don't know what they are doing. you could have a system that does opposite all the things in the video and still win over time. it depends on the system and whether it works.

    The first major mistake in my books is the "never average down" rule. 90% of traders will tell you to never average down. That is only dangerous if you don't calculate your risk, and take large positions instead of small nibbles. Averaging your trades will allow you to stay in the position longer instead of getting shaken out on every little dip. Play with 3-4 major support/resistance levels and know where to stop your losses.

    • @skyviewtrading
      @skyviewtrading  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Primal 420 I agree. Averaging down is totally okay especially when you go into the trade planning to average into (and out of) the trade . And like you said, it's all about calculating your risk ahead of time and knowing your numbers..

      Skyviewtrading, I was disappointed when you started your analysis on why 90% people fail.
      Here is the real reason, 1. 90% failure is applicable to only fno trading, cuz it's a zero sum game
      2. If 100 traders put in some money, they pay maybe 0.5% brokerage one time and tax per trade.... Now the money is the same, but number of trades done let's say is 10,000 times.... Just imagine the taxing on each trade! All your money is with govt and brokers and of what little is left, those 10% traders take away!
      Also do know that out of the 10% winning traders, 90% win by just close to break even score so basically they aren't making huge profits, just a little, and just 1% guys really make some profit!

    Cutting losses short and letting winners ride is not most losing traders do.

      I think you may be looking at it the wrong way. If we were BUYERS of stocks or naked options I would agree with you. But we are SELLERS. We are simply betting where a stock won't go, rather than where it will go. When selling options we want to be aggressive on taking profits and hold our trades that went against us until we show a profit from time decay or IV.

    • @skyviewtrading
      @skyviewtrading  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It hasn't been easy. Not going to sugarcoat it. But we've actually still done quite well considering the low IV. We just don't have as much of our capital allocated as we would if IV were higher.
      We still have an edge selling premium during low IV... Just not as much of an edge so it's more important than ever to keep position sizing small. To avoid being hurt by an IV expansion and to also keep some capital available for when IV finally rises.

    Funny. Yesterday, after just two weeks of researching a bit about day trading, and trying some test trades, I came to this exact conclusion regarding losses and profits. Every TH-camr I've seen goes with this concept of making the stop loss limit smaller than the desired sell price, in an OCO. But if you never let the price dip, you're just gonna be constantly accruing small losses. I'm now experimenting with allowing a sizable loss compared to desired sell price. Using it more as a mechanism to not lose my entire wad, rather than a mechanism to evade losing anything at all. I still know nothing about trading, but I know I'll observe and learn more through this set up.

    Best way to trade is to have $25k so that you can be able to day trade. And you also should buy and sell in 10 minuets at most to get out of your position as quick as possible.

      It's happened to every good trader at least a handful of times in our careers.. What's important is what you do from here going forward. Learn from your mistake (whatever it may have been). Be honest with yourself about what went wrong. And last but not least, don't let the loss cause you to revenge trade.

Am I the only one who does this. Is there a way out because it's like a habit right now and I can seem to stop it. Thanks for this video

    I’m not so sure about this advice. Let your losses run? Sizing up with plays you are more certain on is NOT always a bad idea. Lastly buying options may not reduce your cost basis but that doesn’t make them bad. Although option buyers have time against them and require a moderate move for buying them to be profitable, they offer limited risk which makes a good risk to reward ratio.
    Also buy breakdowns? Sell breakouts? WHAT? Who would do that. If your trading you should ideally buy into strength and then close the position when it’s still strong to capture the meat of the move.

      I blew my account multiple times trying to trade alone, the losses I incurred made me believe trading was actually a dead end not until I made 7 times on my trading capital in 3 weeks and with the market making large moves and the support and mentoring I got from Mr. Michael, Stocks are good but I swapped and invested in forex, Bitcoin and crypto. I've been earning much from it, you gotta see the favourable forex rising profits. Actually, an expert broker handles my forex investment while I invest in some real estate with the profits I make. He's an expert when it comes to trading forex, he made over $34,000 with my $12,000 start up capital. I highly recommend him, the brain behind my success. Pursuing trades with him has put me on the path of greatness. a renowned financial analyst and trader. He made me learn to read and understand the language of price action rather than relying on lagging indicators with vivid explanations on a learner-friendly platform. So my advice, fine a mentor and also, try incorporating the use of oscillator, Bollinger and pivot points into your strategy, also move to higher TFs (4h or 1D preferably) Thank me later. I highly recommend him, the brain behind my success. Pursuing trades with him has put me on the path of greatness. Feel free to contact him if you've got a hard time getting hang of it on MICHAELFRANSWAY@gmail. com, I'm pretty certain he'll get in touch. I hope someone use this info too mitigate risk.

      Funny, because in your bio, it says you enjoy games that involve chance (like poker). Trading is the same way and if you REALLY understand numbers, then you cannot dispute any of the claims made in this video.

    • @DavidKnight33
      @DavidKnight33 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I play games for fun, but I trade for real money. If you risk more than you are willing to make ... if I understand this video then this is a losing proposition so I will see you in the broke house of traders.
      Damn I watched this video again it was even more painful to watch. There is no way you are trading. Your trading logic is flawed. Anyone who listens to you will lose.

    • @skyviewtrading
      @skyviewtrading  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      David Knight Oh, of course! Just cut losses small and let winners run! That's all you have to do! Unfortunately it isn't that simple. Markets are way too efficient for it to be that simple.
      Anyone who listens to us will lose? That's a pretty bold statement. So please, be my guest and back up your statement with real numbers and logic.
      By the way, if our trading is that flawed, then just take the other side of all our trades and you should be banking! We share all of our opening and closing trades in real-time via our website. There are 2 sides to every trade so it sounds like you're onto something big. Let us know how it goes.

    • @DavidKnight33
      @DavidKnight33 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I have been in business for 30 years now. You are a flash in the pan frankly. Anyone who listens to your horse sense deserves what happens to them.
      Are you front running stocks? Because that is the only way this crap ever works. Please stop spewing your very bad trading educational method.
      Unless, I am wrong then please explain how a 1:2 profit ratio works in your world? Because what you are basically saying is risk more than what you are willing to make using your "inversion" method of reverse logic.

    • @skyviewtrading
      @skyviewtrading  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good for you. You don't need to sell yourself to me. I don't care that you've traded for 30 years. That doesn't mean you know everything. If you've been in the business for awhile, you should realize that two people with a different strategy can both be profitable.
      No we don't front run stocks. lol. We trade options on big board stocks that are highly liquid.. For us to front run stocks, we'd have to be trading penny stocks or something else that isn't that liquid. We couldn't be more opposed to this more than we are. There are a lot of frauds out there front-running their "students" because they alert penny stock trades after they are already in.
      Because the numbers always play out. If you have a 1 tick stop, and a 10 tick profit, then you're going to have a much lower win rate of 50% (more like 10%). On the flip side, if you have a 10 tick stop, and a 1 tick target, you're going to have a 90ish% win rate. If you have a 1:1 risk/reward then you're going to have a 50% probability of success (and therefore a 50% win rate if you were to have a 1:1 risk/reward on every trade).
      Honestly, this point we made in this video is the least important one. It really doesn't matter that much. How far away you put your stop and target will be reflected into your win rate anyways.
      "Cut your losses small and let your winners run." That's exactly what we'd teach if we wanted to scam people into thinking trading is that easy. But we aren't like that. It isn't as simple as just cutting tiny losses and taking huge profits. People who think this is the secret to trading success do not understand numbers or how the markets work.
      I'm done with this conversation. It's honestly a very ignorant conversation and you haven't made one point to back up any of your claims. You're just throwing shade and hate without backing up any of your statements. Please watch our video titled "When to Cut Losses Trading Options".

    Nice video but I think what's important for every trader is to have targets. You can't just buy/sell and hope that it will become a profitable trade. Besides, how can one ever know when to close the trade? The answer is setting up targets using price action. An example of this is the EURUSD forecast I uploaded recently. Market was moving up so we placed 3 targets of importance to buy towards and take profit at. Of course, this won't always work but at least you are going with the current trend and know when to exit due to potential support/resistance. You can check it out for yourselves and see how accurate that was, pretty much to the pip! =)

    So much of it is psychological. Day traders need to be able to remove the emotion from their trades, or they're going to reflexively respond to their own emotions. This is why I can never day trade; I refuse to take a loss, and if the stock I bought is dipping, I'm holding it until it profits again, no matter how long it takes.

Many traders use a sell at a loss strategy, rather than endure the downhill losses to then wait for the upturn (possibly buying in again, but not always) to eventually sell at an eventual realised profit. It is not a race - so patience WILL win in the long run.

    Good vid, I think the best advice I have ever been given was ”You don't lose money when a stock goes down, you don't gain money when a stock goes up. None of that happens until you sell.”. I based my whole trading plan on that single idea.

      Excercising an option call means buying the underlying stock.Its better to book loss than to excercise and hold the stock if you don't want to hold the stock for a long term .Then maybe buy a put option or short the stock if the market is in a downtrend or just search for other opportunities.

    its okay to buy breakouts and sell breakdowns. This advice is short sighted

    • @mehwhyausername1
      @mehwhyausername1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      for sure. if you know what you're doing, have a risk and money management system, and focus on implementing your strategy / plan without deviation, then swing trading (for many traders) and even day trading (for the minority of traders) can be profitable. but most people can't be bothered to consistently learn, spend a lot of time backtesting, or even commit to writing and upholding the strategy at all, that they fail and get overcome with emotions, making illogical mistakes and deviating from their plans. that's why everyone blows up their account; that and trading volatile or risky instruments. this advice may be good for long-term investors, but some of us are more active in trading and are willing to focus on short timeframe volatility and movements.

  • @aluisious
    @aluisious 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    1) "Losing trades will become winning trades." Net sellers of options are exposed to larger potential losses than gains, and if a stock moves significantly, your spreads are going to to hit max loss and never come back.
    2) Buying options is not "the opposite" of successful trading. Options are the same as trading anything, buy low, sell high. Right now we are in a low volatility market. Options are a volatility trade. If you're selling options heavily in low vol, all your small positions are going to go bad at the same time when the market moves.
    You want to know what 90% of traders have? "A strategy." The market doesn't care about your strategy, it's chaotic and constantly shifting. If you stick dogmatically with selling premium, the time will come when that is the wrong thing to be doing and it will bite you. If you call yourself a trader, TRADE. Buy what's cheap and sell what's expensive.

    You’re dead on with the 4 pointers you brought up. The biggest one of the 4 that needs to be further emphasized is that small positions will remove the emotion component from your trading. It’s very easy to become emotionally invested when your position size is too large. I’ve applied all 4 of these principles and have made $28k in 3 years with $45k invested. I could be up more if I didn’t trade out of boredom or mess around with options. You’ve earned a new subscriber out of me with this video.

    Try Selling into the strength on NVDA and try buying into weakness on VRX. Let me know how that works out for you. You make a lot of good points however your logic is flawed because you do not understand market drivers well enough so you try and compensate with math. Why not just learn what drives a market. It's a lot easier to trade when you do.

    • @skyviewtrading
      @skyviewtrading  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Our points are generalizations. It's a 4 minute video. We cannot cover literally everything you need to know about the markets in a 4 minute video. Yes, it's important to understand what drives the market... We wouldn't just blindly go long VXX, for example, without understanding that the futures rolls create a negative drag on the ETF.

    • @stevepatterson1124
      @stevepatterson1124 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I understand you were just speaking in terms of generalizations. I like the approach you are taking to RISK control. It's a very unique and refreshing perspective.

    • @brutallyhonest9382
      @brutallyhonest9382 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eventually that actually will probably play out, once NVDA becomes too overvalued, and once VRX stabilizes from the crash, it takes time to finish crashing. Some billionaire was actually buying up large amounts of VRX and lost a lot of money because he was trying to buy it too soon.
