@leonardodelfino3230 lots of crime. White people aren't safe on tje beaches at night. There's a place called little chicago there you'll want to avoid. Lots of poverty as well. But if you know where to go and enjoy the outdoors during the day it's great.

26:28 Finally a Brazilian car !!! This video really confirms the results of a recent survey that shows a quite interesting fact : out of 2000 cars that cross the Franco-Brazilian Binational Bridge monthly only 5 are from Brazil.
And at the end of the day, this is all due to the fact that we (Brazilians) gotta have a visa (which we can't come by so easily) and we also have to pay around 700 BRL in taxes and international insurance to cross the bridge by car. Meanwhile, the French people can easily cross the Brazilian border by only paying a small insurance fee.
Tbh that kinda makes me feel like we're not really welcome in French Guiana (don't get me wrong, it's not about the locals, but rather the French government) and that all of these hindrances that prevents us from visiting it were designed to keep French Guiana out of Brazil's cultural influence...
It sucks that things are like this.

Well, it's indeed beneficial to maintain a distinct French Guianese culture. Don't misunderstand me - your culture is incredibly diverse and fantastic. However, preserving the uniqueness of French Guiana's culture holds greater significance. Brazil boasts a vast population of 214 million people, whereas French Guiana is home to just 294 thousand individuals. Simplifying access for Brazilians could potentially alter French Guiana's culture and linguistic identity entirely.

    • @driftaddictbr
      @driftaddictbr ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@nanananana4373 7 months later and I must admit that I completely changed my views on this topic and I completely agree with what you just said. It's a matter of protecting the culture and the traditions of a small population, which already holds the disadvantage of being located so far away from the 'mainland France'.
It has nothing to do with showing disregard for the Brazilian culture or something like that, which's what the more close-minded me from 7 months ago used to think 🤦‍♂️

The walk takes place in the city center of Cayenne. In this area, there are only one or two traffic lights, and as many streets are one-way, priority on the right is sufficient to manage traffic.
There are a few more traffic lights outside this area, but also, as always in France, a lot of roundabouts, but outside the downtown.

I knew someone who was blocked in Macapa because his flight to Macapa was delayed and when he arrived, it was too late for the next flight and he had to do the trip to Cayenne by bus.
Now, I saw that Air France also propose one flight per week to Belem, maybe that allows a better connection with a Brazilian airlines which works with Air France.

I live in french Guiana and I can tell you why it seems empty...
The area this video shows us is the city center and in this area you have "La place des palmistes" with the big palm trees and "Le marché de Cayenne" which is a hundred meters away from "Place des palmistes".
"La place des palmistes" is especially busy at night from 7pm to midnight (sometimes later) it's a place where you can afford food, meet new people, hang out with your friends and enjoy the amusement parks around (self tempering). It's the one of the most, if not the most known place of the Capital which is Cayenne.
"Le marché de Cayenne" is an event happening on Wednesday and Saturday.
Plus in this place you can found all the different nationalities living in the country (french, Guianese, guyanian, surinamian, Chinese, Peruvian, Brazilian, Haitian, Jamaican and so much more...)
This event is an opportunity to buy fruits and vegetables only available in South America.

Doubt it. They have a culture and a mix of people that is different form brasil. They never recognized any brasilian feeling (even less US 😅).
The debate after WW2 was whether they wanted independence, or not. And if they stayed French, what status they would have (autonomous/ semi autonomous/ fully part of France ). They choosed the latter : to become a region of France (same than Burgondy or Normandy).
I would also add that they receive much more money from the state and the EU than what they contribute. They have healthcare system, cheap university, social help etc. They can go wherever they want in the EU.
The costs and risks to become independant would be huge and there is no local support for it.

Typical American, going around saying that any country that doesn’t have unnecessarily tall buildings and has a more relaxed lifestyle is a “3rd world” country. No, this is what the real world looks like. Most of the world isn’t consumed by this weird “work to live, live to work” that Americans are obsessed with. Life is suppose to be relaxing.
