Nick, thank ya for sharing your trip to YP. Back in my youth, I spent many beautiful weekends back there fishing for blue crabs. Heinies, blue crabs and melted butter....we lived like kings for a day and the coyotes made morsels on what was left behind.
Howdy Nick. That's just what I needed to ease my fears (my wife's)about taken that road. I tell her not to worry I have 4X4. You highlighted & covered beautiful part of the island. I waved at you as you driving down beach 9/12 while we're staying. Thanks again for beautiful pics & bird watching . I've got my 10X40 ready.
Noticed the ice boxes mounted on the front of truck / radiator this practice can and will disrupt the air flow to your radiator causing the truck to overheat in warmer weather. My dad suffered the consequence of this while fishing years ago in northern Mexico due to this extreme oversight. I suggest removing anything that is directly in front or over you radiator. Good luck all the best from South Padre Island 🏝
Is that boat ramp usable for a skiff? I've got a B2 that I dry launch. I fish down that way and have been by the park many times just never noticed the ramp. Would be nice to camp and launch from there
Wonderful and informative, I’ve never known what the road was like and the tricky part being just through the foredunes/high dunes. Is it generally open by NPS and do you just have to punch through the sand with some speed or lowered tire pressure?
It sure can. Been back there many times, but one summer a buddy and I tried to go through the first part in my Toyota Tundra, buried it to the doors halfway through, had to walk 6 miles back to camp to get the other truck to get me out lol good times, good memories.@@Nickaway
Hey Nick, I pulled out some black drum from bird island basin in October. One drum had weird clear gelatinous meat. I looked it up and apparently they arent very frequent but it's assumed the diet somewhere in the bay changed their flesh. Have you ever seen this? Also, how do you keep the underside of the truck from rusting other than the car wash on the way off the island? I come down from San Antonio quite a bit and I noticed some rust spots while changing the oil. Thanks, great video!
Cool spot. Wife and I fished there. Park ranger with tattoo sleeves is a Barney Fife. He asked for fishing license, as I reached for my wallet he palmed his pistol and told me to stop. Did the same shit to my wife. NO JOKE!
Thanks for taking us on the drive

Thanks again Nick I still owe you one
Good adventure!!!!
Awesome stuff
Thank you

Do y’all feel like a newer F-350 diesel on 35s loaded with 1000lbs of camping gear would make it through?
What mile marker on pins is the pass at?

Thanks Nick.
What happens if they lock the gate while you’re back there?
You would have to unlock it :-)

I never lower my tires just punch through, it can get dusty and soft in the summer

I have caught fish in the past like that. Black and Red drum call them wasters.
