Nafferton is a village in the East Riding of Yorkshire which is about 2 miles from the market town of Driffield and 30 miles from the historic City of York and is served by Nafferton railway station on the Yorkshire Coast Line from Kingston upon Hull to Scarborough.
According to A Dictionary of British Place Names the name Nafferton probably derives from "Nattfari", an Old Norse person name, with 'tun', the Old English word for a farmstead or enclosure.
The oldest surviving building in the village is the church, parts of which date from the 13th century. The church dedicated to All Saints was designated a Grade I listed building in 1966 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.
The Mere, a large expanse of water fed by natural springs, was formerly a mill pond. The mere is drained via sluice gates into a mill race running through private gardens. The race feeds a non-functioning but still existing wood and steel overshot waterwheel. The mill race drains into Nafferton Beck, and subsequently into the River Hull.

Jamie what a lovely place Nafferton is such a pretty village l am not sure if you have done a walk in Newport just near Gilberdyke because if you have we can't find the video unless we was dreaming some of the cemetery looks well kept and some is over grown with weeds wonder if it's left for a reason why it's not well kept were the weeds are growing or because it's an older cemetery but it did look very big place to walk through the pond looks so nice l think the flower what you saw was a hollyhock not to sure has they do grow quite tall was the little bridge you walked along a bit rickety that walkway you went down was a bit narrow those white flowers are called michaelmass dasies think they are wild flowers

My Grandfathers brother kept the grocers shop in Nafferton in the 1940s -50s . My Grandfathers name was HALL , T.R. HALL , I dont know the brotherss christian name/names .

Thanks for this tour. I used to go to school in Nafferton as a young kid and have such nostalgic memories of the village. I've loved all of your East Riding tours, they have made me seriously consider moving back one day.
