The thermometer is greatly affected by your body heat. It is not accurate while you have it on, and for a while after you take it off. The compass should not be affected, and usable while wearing it.
Looks like your Kestrel is a link unit... You can link to it with an app like Strelok pro. Take a look at it. You can set up your Kestrel on a tripod and lay, then use your phone for information on conditions and you can get dope also without having a Kestrel ballistic unit... ;-)
Dude you're nuts! I loved the opener on this video lol. Also isn't there a method of using the lensatic compass with a thumb through the ring and index fingers resting the compass on top? Lastly, that first range book you started the segment with granted it is bulky but wouldn't the size allow you to make your ftp diagrams among other things and kept in your ruck? Again I agree with you bulky and a pain in the ass to carry but do the other needs .make it more necessary?

I suggest testing it. Take it off your wrist so it'll calibrate, then compare it to compasses/thermometers you trust.
