    Hi, I want to let you know that I just finished building two pedals. One for me and one for my son. My son loves his pedal, the sound is unique for him. We used the experimenters kit to hear different configurations. Bonus is he thinks I'm one of the smartest people he knows. Thank you also for all the videos, they do answer a lot of questions. Oh yeah, I modded my pedal for my Bass guitar. Thanks again.

ED vol is working, tone pot is working almost as a volume) any clues to what i might be doing wrong?

    hi. i tried to build this pedal. have the mpsa13 and 1n914 combination but it is very silent. there are 2 different things i done: added one 2.5k pot from battery to circuit to control the "damage" amount and used a 11k resistor instead of a 10k one.
    does not work properly :(

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the Pot on minimum resistance (full 9v to the pedal) the effect should work fine. There must be another issue going on. 11k on the collector wont make any difference to btw.

    This is probably a really odd question but have you ever picked up a radio signal on a pedal?. I was working on on one of these 7 minute fuzz pedals and I'm sure I could hear faint voices coming out of my amp but when I turned the pot to try to increase the volume I lost the signal. I'm new to pedal building and am just curious as to whether this is common or not.

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That can happen sometimes, when there is an error with the assembly of the circuit, or because the effect isn't inside an enclosure (ie the effect isn't shielded).

  • @PopPop-zu2dt

    The small portable amp I am building based on a PAM8610 module runs on 12 volts and want to put this inside the amp. Will the 7 Minute Fuzz run on 12 volts OK or do I need to put a 9 volt regulator on it?

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carbon film wont add noise. The noise might be coming from your power supply. Try powering the effect with a battery, if the noise goes -> its your power supply (unregulated PS's pass all sorts of noise that you can hear through your effect).

    I don't know if you will see this, but I recently bought the standard kit to make my first pedal. I understand most of what I need to do to build it however I am confused on the wiring shown with the battery at the end, if you could let me know which wires go on which jack and where the battery holder wires go that would be amazing. Thanks :)

      Hi Ian. I assume you are referring to the test wiring page of the 7 min fuzz (page 7)? +9v goes to battery postitive, battery negative goes to sleeve (or ring) of your input jack, which is also connected to ground of the pcb and the other jack sleeve (output). Then you just connect input tip and output tip to the input and output of the pcb. Hope im on the right track? Cheers

    Hello, I just bought this kit from you along with the experimenters kit. this is my absolute first attempt at doing anything DIY in guitar pedals. But i have a few problems: i dont know how to use these sockets. i assume i break them off and individually insert them into the holes on the PCB, like you said in the video. then with all the sockets resting in the holes, i place the components into the sockets that are in the PCB? so the sockets act as temporary solder? i place them in but they are a bit wobbly and i am afraid of knocking things out of place while im trying to wire everything up to test it. Sorry for such a newbie question, hope you can help me, i appreciate your videos and am very excited to learn more about DIY building. Also, not sure exactly what double sided tape you are using, can you use any tape like electrical tape or is there an exact tape you recommend?

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marley. that is essentially the idea yes. Its not perfect but you should be able to experiment with the effect easily enough. I would come up with a combination that you like the sound of then hot glue / tape / blue tack the parts down and install into an enclosure for a little added reliability. Hope that helps, and welcome to the hobby :D

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Justin Mosher Hi Justin you can still test it with 2 mono jacks, basically check out the build doc on the product page, in the document scroll down to the page titled "testing your effect". The jack illustrated on the left hand side is a stereo. For a mono input jack you would connect the ground from the effect pcb and the negative of the battery together to the sleeve of the mono jack (there is no ring with a stereo jack of course).  Hope that helps!

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry Matt, not sure what you are referring to. You can use electrolytic in place of film (if that's what you mean?) but its not recommended. If you do try to orientate the capacitor so the negative is on the 'most negative' side of the circuit. You could try a non polar electrolytic in place of polarized, would probably be a better choice. Hope that helps! Cheers

    Hey Paul, I purchased one of your 7 min fuzz kits and was wondering if it would be possible to add a mini toggle switch to switch between different diodes. If so, how would I go about doing that. Thanks :)

      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You sure can! With a SPST you can swap between two. Its pretty easy to do, difficult to explain. Ill try and paste a link, basically just replace those 2 x 2 back to back diodes with just 2 diodes: www.cubisteffects.com/images/MIY/Pt3DiodeSwap.jpg The 2 blue wires will join at the same point on the board

    Hi, awesome work dude!, but I have a question.
    How did you connect the on/off switch?
    and
    When you put the switch off, there's no output signal, like a bypass?
    Greetings from Mexico-

      Hi Jorge, thanks for you compliment! You want to wire up the resulting effect with true bypass offboard wiring. Search youtube for "offboard wiring tutorial" you will see my video come up and it will have the answers your after! Hope it helps thanks again!

    Got it cranking and it sounds great. I want to put it into an enclosure with a stomp pedal. Do you have a wiring diagram for how the foot switch fits in? (or another video on foot switches?) You don't really talk about that in the off-board wiring video.

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Alexsander. Boxing up the effect is sort of 'stage 2' I guess you could say. Search youtube for "offboard wiring" you will see my tutorial come up. That will show you the process of boxing up an effect.

      Ah! I fond this wiring diagram from madbean (see p4) which is a similar fuzz and it shows how to incorporate the foot switch: www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/Mangler/docs/Mangler.pdf
      grooooovy!

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alexander Whillas That will work, but note there is no dc jack for boss dc power. Follow this one if you want to incorporate the dc jack: www.madbeanpedals.com/tutorials/downloads/StandardWiring_MBP.pdf

    • @AlexanderWhillas
      @AlexanderWhillas 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      OH, I hadn't thought of putting a DC jack on it. This is from main line power? Would you then need to have some sort of transformer to covert from AC 240V to DC 9V?

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alexander Whillas Nah, don't mess around with 240v. Just just a wallwart / 9v power adapter.

      @andrewsmith1520 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      chromespherecom thanks. Im actually thinking that id like to try a fuzz face instead but with silicon diodes. I would also like it true by pass and simple. Do you make such a kit? Btw. I love how you have your kits set up to add features to so youre buying just what you need and nothing else. I think your shipping across the pond will end up eating thing up. I wish there were sellers as good as you in the US. So far I've not found them

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Smith Thanks for the compliment Andrew! I don't have a silicon fuzz face sorry, just a germanium fuzz face (facemaster). Shipping isn't too bad, my kits don't come with the heavy parts like 3pdt in out jacks and enclosures for this reason, keeps the delivery pretty cheap (typically $3.50 or $7.00 depending on weight). Anyway, good luck with your search!

      Hey Jordan, shipping is posted via mail delivery and can be random. Some people report as quick as 5 days, others as long as 4-5 weeks (customs).

    Honestly, I think that the missing enclosure section makes the kit useless. Also, the fact that the wiring diagram doesn't repeat for both battery or DC jack makes it so hard to follow Also, the lack of wiring not being shown in the video via soldering is annoying too.
    I really got turned off by this kit and am not happy with it. I think this video could have been better but that's just me.
    I don't think it's as beginner friendly, however I think this is a flaw of guitar pedals in general in that the guitar jack and foot switch wiring is very difficult.

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are going to incorporate a battery you will need a switching dc socket and a stereo input jack. Otherwise you can use a mini dc socket and a mono jack.

    Do I break off the sockets?

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Charlie. The idea is for the experiementers kit populate all the pads (excluding in/out/+/ground and the pot pads) with sockets so you can switch out the transistor diode capacitor and resistor for experimentation purposes. For the standard kit just use the 3 sockets for the transistor. Hope that makes sense.

      DIY Guitar Pedals So the answer was "Yes."
      I've built the pedal and it works like a charm. But I'd like to switch to a wall plug so I don't have to change the batteries often. I've found a 9V 500mA output wall plug, so I'm wondering if that could be used to power the pedal or would it fry it?
      In that case I'd just wire in the plug provided with the kit instead of the 9 volt battery plug?
      Basically, is the 9V 500mA the proper rating to be used with this circuit?
      Also could you sketch up a diagram for wiring the LED?

    • @DiyguitarpedalsAu
      @DiyguitarpedalsAu  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Charlie, in short, would recommend it unless the power supply is designed for powering pedals.
