I'm probably in a minority, but I'm way more interested in this type of video than endless gear demos. It's something anyone can learn and apply with stuff they already have and use rather than just demos of so much stuff there's no way anyone could even use all of it even if they somehow managed to obtain and keep it all.
100% agree. Maybe I’m biased bc I’m about to begin recording and mixing demos for my deathcore project but I would love to see more mixing + mixing plugin videos
No same!! I love demos when I’m need of them… like if I want a new fuzz pedal and need demo comparisons. But otherwise I love looking at how people use my own stuff and how I can use what I have differently!!
definitely some insightful information out of this video in terms of how you do things. hella solid. interested to see how the approach be done with other guitar tones surrounding death metal.
This is great, bought this NAM-pack a few days after release! Love it and that it does something a bit more dirty than all the endless NDSP's. Great tutorial!
I also think that a good option for killer death metal tones is to make a blend between a tight, "modern" tone and a swedish death metal hm2 tone, you can use the plugins in parallel so you don't have to use 2 tracks for each guitar recording (or you can use 2 tracks for each tone and for each side and do the quad track recording)
When you are mixing guitars and want to have a harmony part do you tend to just have them hard panned on a single guitar double tracked? Or would you treat it like 2 guitars, each double tracked and hard panned? I know a lot of people would say it's a matter of preference, but I'm interested in how you would approach it in your mixes! (Also, do you check in mono for phase issues mixing like this?)
Checking mono for phase issues is a good practice for sure. I always do 2 guitars hard panned left and right... Quad tracking is very cool, but very time intensive, and you need to make sure that those takes are super tight or else it sort of makes the whole thing fall apart.
Death metal is one of those genres when mixing you want it to be a muddy, yet clear as you can. At least for that old school sound. Very thick and scooped
Question. I can put songs together with drums and guitars etc. But I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to EQing, can i had the same EQ settings you use for your guitars and just apply it to all my songs? Sort of like a go to preset.
There's too many variables to just copy/paste. While you could use it as a starting point and go from there, what works well for my guitar tone might be terrible for yours. The only way to get better at it is to just get in those reps!
Maybe it's me, but I feel like having one of the guitars be the one you chose, and the other be one of the HM-2 blend style tones, would have been fun. I've always been more of a "different tones for the left and right" kinda guy. I usually like to blend different tones for the left and right, where I'll have 3 different tones, one that is used for both the left and the right, and then one different tone for each side. These days, at least one of those tones tends to be chainsaw, or some kind of distortion pedal or pedal combination, just something that will make the sound super dense and a bit more unique.
I'm not sure what you mean, every track in reaper is technically a midi track since reaper doesn't differentiate between audio and midi tracks. Any midi file you have you can drag and drop. More information please~!
@TaylorDanley I will try that. thank you. otherwise I am attempting to control helix presets/ snapshots, so I do not have a midi file to drag into track.
@@zakklee2556 Oh, then you have to use the piano roll to program your patch changes. It's tedious. I don't do it with the helix, but I have done it with the Axefx. To add a midi region, you hold command (idk windows, probably ctrl) and you should get a pencil, then you just draw in where you want the region to go.
The other way you can add a new midi item is whilst having a time range selection up the top, and a track selected, go to the Insert menu then "New midi item"

Where can I find the pack? Downloadet NAM today thanks to this video so I am kind of noob right now😂
@@Betongtempel777 I’m Also looking gor this pack! Does it come with IRS?
Turn the gain all the way up. More gain = more metal. Take the mids completely out of the equation. Turn the bass all the way up. Bingo, metal.
Great vid Taylor! Continue your good work!
🙏
Is there a video that precedes this that shows us all the plugins you loaded on before the NAM infomercial?
Sorry downstairs neighbors. Danley's uploaded again, and these speakers gotta be cranked.
The ssl eq is my all time favorite. I use the P.A. version gives it “that sound”. Great video
Those clean tones might sound good blended in with the distortion track
The intro bit you showed reminded me a lot of Homicidal Retribution by Dying Fetus. So you get a 5/5 from me.
was just what i was hearing xD
Nam has been a mix saver in my house yo!
Great video. On my way to go download this now.
Great video, would love more stuff like this.
Just wondering Taylor , I usually double track each guitar , what do u do / recommend ?
You can do that, it works well… as long as you can play the parts tight enough. If not, it will have the opposite of the intended effect
@@TaylorDanley thanks mate , what do you do just one track for rhy and one for lead GTr ??
I Always double track rhythm guitars.. edit it and make every wave in sync
Good day sir, how did you split the high from the lows of the bass? Are you using EQ?
yes! Copy the track and then high pass one and low pass the other. 💪
@@TaylorDanley thanks sir. More metal!

DAT RIFF! Damn!!
I want to learn how you set up your reaper interface to look like that!!
It's a theme, if you look at the official reaper themes and search "pro tools" you'll be able to find it.
I clicked on the link for NAM, but I have no clue what to do next! Please help, the amps sound brutal!!
What reaper theme do you use?
It’s a pro tools theme, not sure exactly which
Sick vid; sick shirt
I think the metal mix is on point
do u mix bands too?
Sometimes, just depends on the project and what I have going on
Haven’t clicked a link faster than this one
