    A jig most the time will get you fewer but better bites. I go to a texas rig when the bite is tuff, or when I'm fishing around heavy cover that a jig will not come through very well.

    well, I don't know if I was just bad at using jigs, but I had a hard time controlling the baits and getting a feel for them with a spinning reel. But it's just all about your preference. There is no "Main" difference between the Black and Silver besides the color. Personally I think that the black looks better, and I think that the Black Max has a better quality reel, depending on how you set up the reels and the different types of reel control. But they will both perform about the same.

    Is green pumpkin a good color for the muddy (hot chocolate) colored water or would a junebug or black bait do better?

  • @gunsnroses19952012
    @gunsnroses19952012 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's where punching comes to play where it's a jacked up T-rig to where it's a 4/0 + hook with 1 oz + sinker (possible silicone skirt as well) to punch heavy cover like hydrilla that a heavy cover jig can't penetrate easily enough.....

    Sounds good. I will be looking into it. I have a couple spinning rods, that's all I've ever used, so I've been looking for aBaitcaster set-up I can use for all different types of baits. Also, what are the differences you see in the black max vs. the silver?

  • @benbaumgartner7460
    @benbaumgartner7460 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    yeah man, good luck in the future. But if you ever do need a cheap pole. Get the Abu Garcia, trustvme you will never forget this pole. I've had it for almost a year and I have already caught at least 8 5lb bass. This was my first year actually going after bass, before it was all panfish. And I already have some good memories with this pole.

    What reel would you use on a Dobyns Champion 703 Spinning rod???? I know your busy doing super cool things and being too cool for this planet but please answer my question!! It would mean the world to me Justin!!

  • @benbaumgartner7460
    @benbaumgartner7460 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Abu Garcia Black Max Pro 7'0 Medium Heavy, Medium action. The reel is a baitcaster and gear ratio is 7:1.1 TRUST ME This pole is probably the best pole you will ever use in your life. I got this baby a few weeks back at Gander Mountain for 100. Now at Cabelas it will probably around 120. But trust me, this pole is perfect for flipping and pitching, throwing frogs, crankbaits, texas rigs. You name it and this pole is worth it. Loook it up, also look up the Silver Max pole and reel. It's AMAZING!!

    • @robertcox9226
      @robertcox9226 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      7 ft. Medium Heavy most places. 7ft. Heavy florida texas or cali i suspect. Spinning rods with braid and a leader are great for casting a worm, and they will work pitching. If your walking the bank you can even use the bow and arrow cast to cast where theres no room.

  • @bassman1690
    @bassman1690 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Throwing texas rig is my game. I bought a relativly cheap rod and real that work great. the rod and real combo is important but you dont need to go out and look for the best rod you can possibly find same goes with the reel. The line, rod, bait, weight combo is probably more important than the rod and reel combo. youre baits and weights are so incredibly important to the whole process. just sayin

  • @brendancarter3453
    @brendancarter3453 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've never used braided line before and I just got a new rod and reel that I'm thinking about putting braid on but I have a few questions! Is it any harder to cast? Does it backlash if you are not careful? What is the best weight to start out with and what brand has the best value?

    • @chrisgonzalez6377
      @chrisgonzalez6377 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Braid is way easier
      1. You rarely ever have to re-tie
      2. Less backlashes (imo)
      3.id say 20-30 lb power pro is the best

    • @brendancarter3453

      but when you do backlash, it's a bitch to untangle. it can also bind with other layers while under pressure.

    At the end of the day fish 🐠 don’t not know or care how expensive your reel is , spending hundreds of dollars is not necessary I’ve caught tons of fish on rods that cost less then 100 bucks , I always buy the combos never separate the most I’ve spent on one set up is 80 bucks the rest of my arsenal have been around 50

      Honestly if your not spending a lot of money on your equipment. If you don't have a high quality sensitive Rod and a great reel then your a pond hopper. If your like most of us you spend tons on baits and all your set ups are a lot of money because you want quality equipment.

    • @TimKollat
      @TimKollat 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +FishingWithPhil: I know how it is wanting to buy the "best" most expensive gear, but its seriously not needed. You can buy an extremely good rod in the $100-$150 range and a very good reel in the same range. $200-$300 can put you into a great combo that will last forever if maintained just like anything else..
