But visible/open heights like rooftops, boom lifts etc. isn't really my thing. If you deal with open heights could you give me an example scenario? Much appreciated 😊
I would say there is not much for visible heights. Even when you working on top of an elevator next to another, like a duplex The hoistway is dark so you never really see how far down it is.
@@MQElevators Thanks for explaining that. I’m looking into the trades once I get my GED. I’ve narrowed my search down to Plumbing and Elevator Mechanic which is what you show in this video. Heights ain’t my thing neither so it’s good to know that lol. Hope to see more videos from you soon.

Just guessing, but it looks like he sent the car to the floor below, then manually tripped the door latch and stepped on top. Curious about how he locked it out though, so that it wouldn't move while he was on top of the car.
Depends on the make/model of the elevator. Modern ones have a keyway in the car and a switch on the main board and probably a way for a service laptop to enable the access.
How do you like this profession? Do you see yourself as an old man doing this? I’m already 30+ but in pretty good shape. I have a few years in industrial maintenance and currently work in a large steel press facility. I see the union is accepting apprentices currently into the trade. It’s a good hour plus drive daily to the location, but the money is pretty enticing. I understand it’s a bit less while going through the training period. Just always good to get insight from those inside.
In my opinion it’s a great trade to get into, I’m 38 and have been in the trade about 12 years. It’s probably a lot tougher on the body doing construction or mods all the time but maintenance and service is great. The wages are good and I believe you start at 50 or 60% of full rate during an apprenticeship
How universal is your trade? If you were to travel out of state or country, would you be able to work using the same tools or are there certain regulations and practices you would need to learn? I’m an electrical apprentice but I’m being offered an interview for an elevator technician apprentice position Thank you
I can only speak for here in Canada but I do believe it’s pretty universal. It is not a red seal trade yet, meaning your licence doesn’t transfer from province to province but I know guys who have successfully challenged the exam in other provinces. Equipment would be the same for the most part and the tools as well. I think you should seriously consider taken the position, not sure if you’re in the states but maybe someone can add to this response.
Sorry i didn't mention it. Right by the screw when I open the magnet switch you can see the metal arm is broken which is what moves back and forth, making or breaking the electrical contacts in the switch.
