I wish they would make a farmer x with a file basically a ranger in alox form and being alox it should be around the same thickness as the huntsman

Cool. Everybody loves an SAK review every now and then. I own close to 50 of them and my favourite model is the one that has the tools I need at the time I need them.

My 3 favorite and most carried are the outrider, huntsman and one handed trekker

My favourite Swiss army knife for EDC is the Spartan but if I go camping or hiking I switch up to a huntsman because on a day to day basis the Spartan gives me the minimum tools I will need I am also partial to the Evo grip 10 which is a Wenger version of the Spartan it has only one blade but has the addition of a nail file in place of the small blade

All three of those SAKs are great. One thing I like about the Huntsman for carrying outdoors is you can carry kindling in the corkscrew and either a fire ant or a little screwdriver. You can also carry a firefly in the toothpick slot. The tweezers are good for removing ticks as well. That's the nice thing about SAKs, there is such a large variety of different tool combinations so you're bound to find a combo that suits you activity. The Alox versions are cool too. Actually I wish Victorinox would have G10 options because the cellidor scales scratch and even crack a little easy. Good video!

Do you know the Harvester / Swiss Army 7?
It's the same as the Farmer, but it has no key ring (I hate it), and it replaces the can opener by a small hawkbill blade. That might be more useful for you if you never need the can opener.

Hmm I know of that one, maybe I'll give it a shot

I Use the Forester for a few decades now. Does ALL the work on game and fish. Carry it when working in the woods.
I am considering the Ranger Grip 78 now but want a Phillips screwdriver instead the cork screw.
The Farmer Alox is a nice EDC but lacks the Phillips.
So for EDC I now carry a Swiza D04, no saw but not needed in settled areas.

The small screwdriver on the can opener works on many screws as a 2d-Phillips.

Mine are the Outrider, Ranger, Hiker, Farmer and Fieldmaster. Yeah I know that was five, but who cares… I love them all.

All solid picks my favorite for edc my favorite is the camper it's like the pioneer but no hook or scissors, so it's a bit slimmer. I also installed a deep pocket clip, I'd carry that or the ranger wood 55 *I do edc that too from time to time

Thank you! It's hard to go wrong with any model so long as it fits your needs

@@AlaskanFrontier1 yeah that is true. I got the camper by chance and fell in love with it. It has everything that my ranger did but smaller plus the 2nd small blade that I use the most to save the edge of the larger blade, and now I have the firefly and fire ant it make a good emergency kit I can actually edc and not have to carry extra stuff or bulk it works for me. That being said you are doing awesome work and your info is solid and that thumbnail on point. Keep it up hoomie your doing great 👍

I use the can opener at work to open tuna cans. I actually like the claw design on the Wenger better though, tbh.

My three favorites are the Rangergrip 78, the Fieldmaster and the Hiker. I could replace the Hiker with a Master Woodsman. I have no use for a corkscrew. The claim that a corkscrew can be used to untie knots tells me two things about the claimant. He/she doesn't care about the condition of his/her cordage, and he/she needs to learn some new knots.

Fieldmaster, Farmer X, Rangergrip 78. Camper is nice too.

I like the more minimalist SAKs. I usually carry the Compact, the Spartan, or if I maybe the Climber. I really prefer 2 layers, 3 at most. I do have a Mountaineer (4 layer) that I'll carry if I'm doing projects at my mother in laws house.

You should really consider getting plus scales on your Ranger.

Great video topic! Thank you for going over your thoughts on those models. But also, you’re causing me to spend more money. Not mad though.

What are the pluses of victorinox steel?

    • @AlaskanFrontier1
      @AlaskanFrontier1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't know if there are any pluses per say, just that the SAKs are of good quality

Its one of the most rust resistant steels and is extremely easy to sharpen and comes with a lifetime guarantee.
