    You are actually one of the very few professors that actually EXPLAIN what this math talk means.
    By that, I mean "if f is continuous on the closed interval [a,b], f(a) != f(b)... etc"
    You actually explain what that means in plain English, and most importantly visualize it in a really simplified way. None of my professors do this. THANK YOU!

Thanks for making me the star on your subscriber page and I hope you will enjoy the rest of your learning experience from Tarrou's Chalk Talk...and if you do, please tell others about it...that's how I groW!

    I hope at least that it was a rainy day so you did not miss a beautiful weekend day spent with your family:(
    I know what you mean Shane...I'm teaching AP Calculus for the first time this year in the classroom and pretty much since summer started I feel like I eat, breath, think Calculus! Not to mention, having 4 preps this year again at school and two of them AP...lots of work involved and then to squeeze in new videos is overwhelming at times!...but people like you always remind me why!!!

    It's funny coming across your video having graduated from SPHS in 2010. I never had you as a professor, but I remember seeing you in the hallways. I'm taking intro to advanced calculus / real analysis and the professor refers to the IVT occassionaly while writing proofs, but never really went over it. Anyways, thx for the video!

    Thank God I found your channel, now i am finally to start to understand calculus! Your way of teaching fits my way of learning! I will start to get the word out to friends of mine that are also struggling in calc. This is also helping in my calculus based physics class! I hope your channel is a success.

    At 12:45 you mentioned that g(x) has a removable discontinuity, but isn't it actually a jump discontinuity?

    • @profrobbob
      @profrobbob  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      My book does not use that vocabulary. I had to look up "jump discontinuity", it means the same thing as a non-removable discontinuity. Thanks for watching. I am going to go add a new key word in my videos description now:)

      @profrobbob  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am so sorry that I don't have the lesson your are looking for yet. Last year was the first time I taught AP Calc AB and the delta epsilon proofs were not on my classes topic list. I remembered how hard they were to understand after having about 20 years to forget my calculus. I wish I could be more helpful:(

    Mr. Tarrou, why is it that some definitions of the IVT has c contained within a closed interval whereas others have c contained within an open interval?

    • @profrobbob
      @profrobbob  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know. Closed inteval makes no sense to me. You already know the functions value at the end points of the interval.

    • @profrobbob
      @profrobbob  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the information given in the table and with the function being continuous, you are only guaranteed the function was equal to 7500 between the x values for which the function went from less than 7500 to greater than or visa versa. I can't always answer questions so quickly but school is out for summer:) I hope I answered your question.

  • @MrCavitysChessCorner
    @MrCavitysChessCorner 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not to sound arrogant here, but your definition of a closed set (in this case a closed interval in R) is not correct at all. A closed set X in R is a set such that if {p_k} is a sequence in X that converges to a point p, then p is in X. It's really too bad that calc is taught like this...it tends to breed handwaveyness.
