Weaponizing everyday items is as easy as understanding the capabilities and limitations of physical attributes of inanimate objects. In this episode Kuya Doug Marcaida, a USAF Veteran and edged impact weapons specialist identifies common attributes found among weapons, structures and everyday items that can be utilized as self-defense or offensive tactics.
Please do not try any of the actions you see in this or any of our videos. There is absolutely no replacement for face-to-face instruction from a qualified teacher.

My dad told me that he stabbed one of his classmates with a pencil when he was in 3rd grade. When I was in 4th grade one of my classmates drove a pencil on our classmates head. Filipinos are very resourceful and we try to take advantage the things in our surroundings to make it a weapon for self defense. I'm happy that Kuya Doug is sharing his knowledge of Kali to the world. Bullied kids, and women should learn how to properly and efficiently defend themselves

I would love to see more Kali and more hand to hand combat videos. I think it's very helpful for people like me who are in "weapons-free zones" (college campus) on a daily basis, and cannot carry a traditional weapon like a knife for personal defense. Then again, with Kali, there is no such thing as a "weapons-free zone" is there?

This just came up on my TH-cam feed funny story ... how I learned the hard way that everything around you is a “ weapon “! I was a teenager thinking I knew Karate and my middle brother came into the room ! He saw me doing moves I thought I knew and like my 2 older brothers use to say “ let me know when your ready or think you are tough “! So I get into my set position and tell my brother Chris I’m ready let’s go ! He replies are you sure I said yes !! He then took a folding chair through is at me I had to stop the chair coming in quickly and he was following it lmao he hit me with such force with the most love possible, then helped me up ! I said you cheated He then said “ there are absolutely no rules in fighting and know your surroundings bc everything can be a weapon ! Funny thing is Chris ( the chair guy ) wasn’t half as tough as my older brother Mark ! Every time I thought I was tough they proved to me I wasn’t ! Which made me a very sick yet aware street fighter 👍 Stay safe with this covid-19

Had a ten minute karambit lesson last Friday from Louie D. It is not just the blade, but every little part of it could defend you. I'm getting more inspired everyday. And your videos are very good. You really can connect..
Knowing how useful these everyday things are teaches me to value them more. Knowing how powerful they can be, gives me greater desire to learn much more. Not that i think of the others' destruction, but it is the thought of preparedness and resourcefullness that comes into my mind. I agree, it is not the edged or blunt tools that is the weapon, it is your mind. Thank you so much.

I go for a jog. While jogging, I look for trash that can be used as a weapon. I find rope, shoe lace, sharp metal and plastic, rocks, etc. I put them in a bag. Then I show my Kenpo class, especially women what I found. I encourage exploration of storm drains and where water flows. You don’t have to carry anything if you have the knowledge of weapons and know where to use it on the body most effectively. Thank you for your videos. SG

with Kali you can use a even a book, a bottle, a stone, a nail(whether its your 'own nail or a metal nail, doesn't matter), your college jacket, bag strap or you can even bite.
Doug forgot to mention projectile weapons such as stones(which by the way you can also use as an impact weapon if you choose the large ones), hot beverage or hot food, a handful of sand, or whatever you have around you on a scenario that can be thrown

I got a book on all different kinds of weapons once and couldn't believe all the different ways to hurt someone. There is way too much violence in the world, but at times it is needed for self defense. Especially when reasoning won't work.

These vids are fantastic. I've always had an infatuation with sharp metal objects and would consider myself fairly adept at knife fighting. My gramps started showin me how to throw knives when I was 5; I'm now 46. When I became the owner of a sheath karimbi I had no intention of attempting to use the ring. I simply made up som me variations of atk with it, etc. when I watched the first vid I was stunned at how simple it was to use the ring. And EFFECTIVE!!!

Kali is the art of weapons and improvised weapons.... Even gangsters and robbers use improvised weapons like baseball bat, ice picks, box cutters and chains to commit crime..... There is no doubt that learning the art of "improvised weapons" is a very effective and functional art.... It also gives you confidence knowing you can use common objects around as weapons....

    Belts have some good uses.
They can protect the hands against blades, or hand protectors, like boxing gloves, used as whips or (buckle edge hanging) cato'ninetails, administering blunt trauma force)
You can employ them to restrain or control motion, to choke, (as you showed), as a tourniquet or sling or even to keep your pants up.
    Three cheers for belts.

I almost forgot, you can use your bag as a shield or a body armor, limiting the areas of target on your body. If you carry a back pack, always wear it in front of your body. If you carry a sling bag, adjust the straps so that you can easily manipulate the bag on your front as a shield.while your stronghand has any kind of weapon in it.

Really good tips. I'm looking around my room and I see that my old bicycle seatpost would be a nasty impact weapon that has potential to lacerate. It's also stronger than any other stick in my immediate area.

  • @JaimeFlorSongwriter
    @JaimeFlorSongwriter 9 ปีที่แล้ว

This is 1 of the first things that I learned to do, and you can do it on your own time. Take a walk throughout your house, and see what you can find. Switch it up to different environments, and you'll find some great weapons sometimes. If you're a chemist, a room full of chemicals can be dangerous. I don't recall what it was, but in the science classroom, my teacher had this bottle that would explode if you through it on the ground. I always had my eyes on that thing, but there were also dead animals in bottle of formaldehyde. Throw that on someone, you'll get a chance to get away, and if you had to hide from him, you could smell him a mile away. We'd even joke, like having a shit stick, if you want people to stay away from you.

one thing i like is my metal water bottle (underarmor) and i carry it around a lot because hydration is key but the other day i realized that if i hold it by the hook i can swing it and (depending on the amount of water in it) work up quite a bit of momentum into the edge of it
