In my opinion, the best self defence tool is a walking cane, its always in your hand and ready, you can take it anywhere legally including planes etc, and if you attacker has a knife etc, a cane gives you distance
I used to practice Aikido and we were training in a park one day doing knife defences. One of the school teachers in our group pulled out some perminent markers and said "Lets use these for the knife." At the end of practice we realized how effective knives are by the marks on our gis. Knives are really effective.
Thanks for your insights Patrick. When training against knives, using magic markers is a great way to understand how poor the defenses are as well as how effective knives really can be. I have used this for many years already. If you allow me, there is a better way to train, use a shockknife. It is a training knife which if it touches you then you will receive an electric shock. I have trained myself in Aikido, and though I love the art, I must say that there are many drawbacks to using it in real life, modern self defense. Respect! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the video. While I think you approach the topic well from a philosophical viewpoint, I think a little more practical approach could be worthwhile. The self-defense weapon that I've employed the most has been pepper spray. When I was young, I rode a bicycle for fun and exercise. I was never attacked by a person, but a number dogs attacked or tried to attack. I had a few places that I might keep pepper spray or mace spray, but I still had a hard time drawing and spraying if the dog was already at close range. I simply fell into the habit of getting the canister in my hand as I approached the houses with bad dogs. If the dogs came into the street, I would spray at them. I found in a few cases that I didn't need to spray the dogs. I could just put out a stream of spray, and the dog wouldn't cross the spray to approach me. Applying the same idea to self-defense weapons, I can see where people may want to deploy a weapon only at a specific time. For instance, if a person sees 99% of his life as low risk but must sometimes cross a questionable parking lot at night, then having pepper spray, a knife, or anything else in a purse or deep in a pocket 99% of the time may not be a big problem. For that short period where one feels that defense might be necessary, one can get the weapon in hand and hold it discretely during that time. In that case, the question is "What is the best weapon to deploy against the average parking lot mugger?" In this scenario, one can start with the idea that the defender will move the weapon into a position for immediate use for that walk across the parking lot. As I consider that scenario, a few thoughts come to mind. I walk with a cane now for balance, so the first weapon at hand for me will be a cane. I live in a state where I'm allowed to carry a concealed handgun, so I'm likely to jab with the cane while drawing the gun if someone initiates an attack. For someone who doesn't want to be seen walking around with a cane all the time, a cane isn't an option. For someone who can carry a handgun and is going to carry the handgun in a purse, that person can reach into the purse and have the handgun fully ready but hidden in the purse. That person couldn't go around all day like that, but for that one walk across the parking lot, that's a feasible choice. Likewise, carrying pepper spray in the purse and getting a grip that way before crossing the parking lot might also be a feasible choice. Other options might be a strong flashlight that can be used as a hand stick, a knife, a stun gun, or keys used as you mentioned. A treatment of the topic that way could be interesting.
Thank you so much for your knowledgeable insights and advice. I myself do everything that you advise, especially the pepper spray when walking my dog. Seems like you have quite a lot of experience under your belt and I thank you for sharing some of it! ❤️❤️❤️
The best weapon to use in self-defense is your mind one you have to understand stress and you have to know how to think under stress to you have a certain level of spirit in your heart strong spirit cause your spirit is your trigger that release your actions you had the first Had to deal with stress because you gotta be observed the environment in the situation and you have to also make a decision do you fight or do you leave it alone then your spirit had to act on these decisions it’s got to actually tell you go ahead and do it. That’s your best weapon. it in one more thing everybody got different skill level .you might not know these things, so this is why I say your best weapon is your mind because it goes into survivor mode so once you’re in that you have to first understand stress and you got to have a certain level of strong spirit because you’re spirit release your point of action if you just develop your spirit, your actions are always gonna be fast and unseen because there’s no hesitation
@prosperndonjekwa9559 Maybe have a look at the Philipino Martial Arts, like Kali or Panantukan. As well, Wing Chun. These are more a hand based defense systems which are very effective. Hope this helps Prosper! ❤️
I never would dare to express my opinion of anybody’s style or work. I am trying to bring some value to the world and opinions, of any kind, just impede our spiritual progress. Thank you anyway oldtime, for taking the time to write me, I am at your service. ❤️❤️❤️
Yes- I keep telling my sis- don't COUNT on that gun-- first- you don't have you purse in your hands all the time- and second- are you going to say to the attacker " WAIT A MINUTE while I get my gun"??? I STOPPED carrying gun long ago -- too much legalities that are AGAINST the defender and in favor of the criminal-- and just far too much to worry about.
You’re very right about carrying a gun David, too many legalities. And yet, there are places and circumstances which warrant carrying. I currently reside in Israel, and a great number of terror attacks have been stopped by citizens who were carrying guns. ❤️❤️❤️
@@eddieforlife1958 agreed-- there are many cases that warrant it.. I just am not one of those- and I rarely go out any more and the locals here are hillbillies like me-- :)
knifes are a great defense weapon. but most attack s come from back and side. if both have knifes both are going to get cut much of the time .its a fight to survive with no second place winners.to survive you must be willing to inflect maximum damage to the attacker you survive let his family be the ones dressed in black, singing sad songs going to the attackers coffin.papa
The BEST weapon for self-defense is AWARENESS-- and what you have between your eyes. THe best PHYSICAL weapon?-- the one you have IN YOUR HAND.. I'm carrying cane now- and can EASILY use it to control an attacker or put him down- and also easily handle MULTIPLE attackers... and it's LEGAL everywhere.. and I exercise with it. I HATE KNIVES--- in a knife fight- no matter HOW good you are--- you goina get CUT!!! I use CANE-- and it gives me an EXTENDED REACH advatage- as well as speed (a quick move of the hand is a longer faster move at the end of the cane- a hard piece of hickory--and bone against bone hurts- but hickory against bone- is DEVESATATING)..
Again, I’m with you on every word. I would just add that in a very close quarter, severely violent encounter, where there is no range, the knife tops everything else. Be well bro! ❤️❤️❤️
@@eddieforlife1958 Sorry but I disagree here-- I HATE knives-- Iv'e been in many close quarter encounters and survived them all- it's actually easier (for me anyway) than street stuff-- and my hands are faster empty- and deadlier.. but- then- I'm NOT the average operative.. or even the average RANGER.. :)

I’m with you on that Emmet though it might look a bit out of place sometimes... very James Bond though.
A belt can both hit hard (eyes, hands etc.) and do chokes, IF you train how to pull it. I have a black leather belt that is customized for quick draw.
I totally agree Christian. When I go out to walk my dog I carry another leather leash on me for that reason! ❤️
Shalom Eddie I a like what you say.
Hi Toby! Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Very informative. I have been teaching martial arts for over 20 years and agree with what you have said.

Depends on the situation.
Agree with you Marv! ❤️
Actually the mind is the most powerful weapon.
Exactly! Well said! ❤️
There is a saying "the pen is mightier than the sword". Well it certainly is if you jab someone with it.
Good idea Ed! ❤️
The mind. You can be a tool with a weapon or a weapon with a tool.
Exactly Ray, well said! ❤️❤️❤️
Dear Shihan I completely agree with you. At a level of high proficiency nothing surpasses a knife in close quarter combat. Oss
Osu Gustavo, I totally agree, thanks for your input!
Jabbing dudes with a pencil probably got me through middle school way back in the 1970s. John Wick owes me, LOL
Way to go Tony! ❤️
