While I love Vinnie's playing, and agree that this band sounds great, Sting's first band featuring Kenny Kirkland, Branford Marsallis, Daryl Jones and Omar Hakim was PURE MAGIC... No subsequent line-up came even close, despite the undeniable high level of musicianship, and even greatness, as is the case with Vinnie...
@@Michael-xw4er Not the same as the original band I listed above - the original group can be heard on Sting's first solo record The Dream of The Blue Turtles, as well as on the live album Bring On The Night. The line up for Englishman in NY was: Branford Marsalis - sax, Kenny Kirkland - piano and keys, Manu Katche on drums instead of Omar Hakim and Sting on the bass instead of Daryl Jones.
Obvious shout outs to Sting and Vinnie on this, but gotta give some love to David Sancious. His playing was really inspirational to me as a keyboard player in my 20s.
Wow! The actual live recording from The demolition man soundtrack. Anyone here that's wondering about the all Vinnie Hype just know that you've witnessed an absolute legend master😊
Excellent band for sure. Also check out Vinnie's time with Frank Zappa ('78-'80) or really any Zappa band from '76-'88. Sting actually guested with the '88 lineup, too!
Vinnie’s rhythmic concepts become nonsensical/rambling pretty quickly when he plays some live shows. Vinnie parts that are well thought through, orchestrated, kid tested, drummer approved and constructed with the type of care one may use in a cogent conversation is Vinnie The Vicar at his undeniably brilliant and fearless best. He’s played some things live that are sheer genius, brilliance, next level perfection and the pinnacle of cleverness. Vinnie blowing his wad is exactly what the words suggest, a wankfest sausage party that leaves drummers speechless, and nearly everyone else trying with varying results to catch a glimpse of the “1”. It’s astonishing and superhuman, and it’s just not what I would call “accessible”. Nested tuplets superimposed over alternating time signatures are not conducive to flow and pulse. Love me some Vinnie, but he overplays too much when performing live. My two cents, not worth a nickel. 👍
I thought it was pretty accessible. I understood what he was trying to say on the kit. I think dynamically he can be out of context at times but it's live and the energy can take over sometimes. He just simply extrapolated ideas from the original. Cheers
Listening to Vinnie play- regardless of the song or genre- is always like sipping a fine glass of scotch
Great Band. Vinnie Is A Force Of Nature.
It´s incredible how all comments in the video talk about the drummer in a STING song. Vinnie ♥
Because he’s Vinnie freaking Colaiuta!
Vinnie the giant! Nobody plays like him...
My all time fave!
Vinnie is always so electric and makes the band sound so full.
Watch Vinnie play with Jeff Beck at Ronny Scott’s Jazz Club. Effing amazing!
Sting’s most fierce band. No doubt.
They are great. His original solo band was pretty great as well.
Love Love Love Vinnie's playing .... What a fabulous drummer ! What an awesome musician !!
Stings best line up ever driven by the energetic and elastic Vinnie.

Was that the line up that recorded Englishman in New York? Yes perhaps a more jazzy, and subtle band in some ways

Vinny! Damn he makes everyone play better. Madman!
The one. The only. Vinnie. And the fact that I’m a drum freak AND share a birthday with this dude is the coolest!

ANDIAMO VINCENZO!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Vinnie ❤
❤
The video director and his ridiculous extreme wide shots of mostly darkness which means he’s not showing an incredible band that’s on fire. Grrrr!
Can they put this on a vinyl release please?!

Vinnie once said his greatest inspiration and influece was Lars Ulrich
If he keeps plugging away, one day he’ll get there.

Working harder than the Zappa days.
Zero chemistry.
Unfortunately out of sync
A great sounding group of musicians and sound engineers.
