Tbh, it doesn't sound so old or outdated. I have heard enough post punk, new wave, gothic and shoegaze bands of the past to say that their sound is definitely modern. Plus. i highly doubt there is much new you could invent, almost anything has been done at this point and there are just as many sounds you can create
