ALDI So Crafty Sewing Machine - beeper modification

  • The beeper in the So Crafty ALDI sewing machine is far, far too loud if you sew at midnight when the rest of your house is asleep. As with every stitch selection or length/width selection a beep penetrates the walls and ceilings of the house to annoy those that choose to try and sleep.
I decided to tackle the problem or else it would curtail my midnight hobby.
Taking the machine apart was not easy. I've been fixing electrical equipment since I was seven years old- I didn't enjoy prising this machine apart. There are some big plastic clips around the throat of the machine that can be seen in the video. These need to be released to open the two halves of the machine.
There are also some screws hidden on the head above the needle that need opening.
Once open, the beeper is very easy to see, the round black unit, see the video. Cover the hole in the middle to reduce the amount of air it can displace and thus the volume it can achieve. It is still plenty loud after the modification to hear the confirmation beeps and warning beeps.
If you use hot glue and only cover the hole, not fill it, then you can peel it off later if you want to reverse the mod. Alternatively use electrical tape, but this may peel after a few years?
I was really happy with the result which means I can enjoy my re-discovered hobby in the me time late at night...

Ok this has come up as a question a few times now...
...so imagine its 1am, the only "me" time you get to sew is from 11pm to 2am on a night (once everyone has gone to bed), you are in the dining room directly below bedrooms and you are trying to do applique, or lettering etc, involving switching between stitch widths and types to make the picture or letters. For every press of the stitch type/letter or width it gives what sounds like one hell of a loud beep when you have a silent house in the middle of the night vs a noisy busy house during the day, where the sound may not seem quite so loud. You fear the stomp down the stairs and grumpy other half complaining they have work int he morning and what the **** are you doing? THIS makes you want to make it a little quieter and add in if you are confident with mechanics and electronics, and got the machine for under £90 as they were trying to get rid of the last of them, so the stakes are not too high, it doesn't seem too bad to sort out the level of the beep....
I would not recommend this on a new machine or if many/any of the above do not apply to you! :) - as I point out at the end, you are voiding your warranty.

DotNetWorker ok, now I understand, thanks for explaining, I’m not familiar with the machine but am looking into buying one so came across your video by search. Don’t think I’d risk that myself though, knowing me I’d be too heavy handed with the glue😏.

@@mecraftytoo For its PRICE it is an amazing machine - lots of comments on the machine in the Facebook group from those that own multiple machines yet use this as the go to machine... facebook.com/groups/117628855583967/
The beep is not really an issue unless you have my particular issue of being an night owl.
