  • Getting back at working on my Case 155 Articulated Tractor Build, as I’ve finally got my “new” travel control valve that I’ve been waiting on for a couple months. With this, I’m starting work on plumbing the hydraulics and building the front lift system.

Youve done great work so far.
If youve not driven a case hidrive before, i will warn you that their drive system is pretty wonky especially once the control linkages have some slop and throttle wont stay up. The bigwheels are also the most cramped operator compartment i have ever sat in. Maybe these are some of the reasons why people are so willing to cut them up for their excellent axles. My 446 was the biggest let down of any tractor ive had.
If you arent impressed with the drive system when you get it done, swap over to a typical SAE hydrostatic axial piston pump with a footpedal rockshaft for infinite speed control and hands free forward and reverse. It can be plumbed to those travel motors just fine. I would plumb them in series.
I hated my deere 140 travel control until i went to a left foot rockshaft pedal to stroke the swash plate. Freed up my hands for the pair of H3 valve spool sets.

At least with your build you can move the engine forward so that the pump isn’t jammed tight under the steering column.
I had 2 project 448’s, a 1983 black frame and a 1979 the 8th 448 made. I considered building an articulated 4x4 out of them but I didn’t want to cut up the rare 1979 448. Sold everything one item at a time starting 10 years ago after buying a Toro 520xi.

would love to see you get this project going again! i am thinking about a similar build and want to see how repowering with that v twin works out. as well as what you would do differently with the hydraulics you mentioned in this video

That valve does not have the built in retarding valve and is a 1984 or older valve. Too bad. Now would have been the the time to get the valve that would stop your tractor from freewheeling down hills.

Damn, that’s frustrating, I was told it was from a late 90’s tractor by the parts seller. :(
