Thank you Johnny for sharing this incredible Gabster TD1 build it is a great inspiration on how to assemble all the IanCanada parts 20 ultracapacitors and off course the 2x Gabster TD1 dacs by Gaby I am still figuring up my build and you have built 2 Amazing Dacs already Kudos for sharing this awesome build
Nicely done! Did you use iancanada clocks? I can imagine this sounds incredible and will compete with any commercial DAC at any price point. I use a TDA1541a S2 DAC with iancanada FIFO and Well Audio clocks. Output is lampizator 6np2 dual mono. I found good linear power supplies were improved with supercaps, so I imagine Johnny's all cap DAC would be awesome. I made extensive use of Blackgate caps throughout. That is another story that pairs well with this chip.
@@JohnnyFrandsen Thanks. I can imagine the sound you are getting. I use a very similar performing clock from Andre Mori and ian's FIFO driving a 1541a. To me a sound that is really hard to beat. Natural, dynamic and tons of low level info. Congratulations. Beautiful build.
Would be interesting to know parts cost and time spent both in design and building. My tech charges $50 an hour, which is quite reasonable. Let’s say 250 hours for Design, sourcing parts, and build that’s $12,500 plus parts😅 as someone who has built a number of ambitious speakers, the time adds up quickly.
I would suggest you build a simplified version in your case like my videos single ended on a UCPure streamer base by IanCanada Then you only need a 10h tech time and you still get an awesome sound.
I can perform measurements to a certain extent, but not with a high level of precision, as I don’t own expensive, high-end instruments. The truth is, most measurements fail to capture critical aspects like the relationship between the left and right channels, imaging, or holographic sound. Some DACs that measure exceptionally well may sound good, but not necessarily great. Ultimately, I prioritize sound quality first and use measurements as a secondary tool. It’s similar to tube amps or preamps-they often don’t measure well, yet they deliver outstanding sound.
I am with ya on that one Gabster I have owned many dacs some measured good some didn't examples I had the topping D50s that measured way better than my schiit modi multibit but I prefered the Modi ! That was like 4 years ago but you are correct Can't measure everything ! D50s sounded thin to me and to bright ' I do believe measurements are important to an Extent One of my all time Favorite speakers at pricepoint Polk lsim 703 I sent them to GR research I told Danny i knew they were going to measure very good but some pep have called them boring ' So far the Polk lsim 703 has been the best speaker Danny has measured and they give his extream series A run for the Roses Danny's comment but I wanted better clarity ' Measurement only tell you how they measure not what they sound like '
All these ultra caps so that you don't have to design a proper linear power supply, poor system design. Note the ultra caps have a 8000A short circuit current, major fire hazard.
@@topkho Agreed. There is something to be gained with supercaps on digital circuits. I build my best linear power supply, then add a super cap for filtering and the sound improves by no small amount. iancanada tried this vs battery vs pure ultracap and found the latter to be the best.
@@topkho Define quality in what way? Give me some engineering units? Been using 3000F Maxwell super caps for designs for years. They are great for high cycle life and high current applications, but poor energy density. Low on resistance but you need large gauge wires to take advantage of that, 4awg or larger. In this application the small wires, fuse and PCB conductor resistance cancel that advantage. A better choice would be 1860 cells right on the DAC, shot conductor lengths plus better voltage regulation and stabilty. Capacitor voltage delta is V=(IT)/C always dropping under load.

great build, a truly passionate audiophile, every detail has been thought of, simply great.
He is definitely pushing the limits and raising the bar higher
Very impressive build. 👍
Very impressive.. by Danish Viking.!
Let's hear Jonny's system ‼️
I think we need to visit Johnny in Denmark
Nicely done!

@ My point was not to complain, but just the complexity of such a endeavour of no compromise. 🤗
i have a Pi4 DAC it works fine

It's interesting how people think what components are used in the build are in any way associated with the sonic results. 😂...
Hey Gabster are you all able to measure dac ? Thanks for thr video
Measure??? hahhaha don't be silly. It would end his bla bla bla career in an instant

Audiophiles are truly bonkers, look at this thing?
The best dac is no dac, no conversion is required

It’s the opposite. The ultracap is much better quality than any LPS. Yes, Ultracaps can be dangerous.
