      @@martymakeupartist The triangular shape of the horse's pad, it is believed, probably reminded the early railroad men of the triangular area where 2 tracks met, which also got the name “frog.”

    I love watching your videos, they are very calming. I never owned (and never will own) a horse. Just curious, what is the ballpark figure for reshoeing a horse?

    I noticed that you didn't cut the heads of the old nails before you pulled the shoe, which has to be more difficult. 🐎👍🇺🇸

      It’s fire hardening; as the shoe is burned on, the horse’s hoof hardens, giving the shoe a better chance of staying on. It’s the same thing that happens when you burn the tip of a stick but not enough that it turns into charcoal

    I have been watching these videos for a while now, and I'm kind of sorry I never tried to become a farrier-- it seems a very meditative activity to be working on all day.
    Question: sometimes I see you "fitting" a shoe while it's hot, and sometimes not. In what situations would you use a hot or a cold shoe? What are the advantages for either method?

    • @rockinu440
      @rockinu440 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not the originator, but it can be somewhat meditative, the horse in this video stands very good…and that makes a big difference, but it’s still hard on your body. Many factors go into deciding to hot fit a horse, some having to do with the foot, others the horse’s environment. In this video the shoe is clipped, burning the clips in is common.

      Most farriers have regulars they go to, most likely the farrier will have the horses shoes ready. If not, the farrier has to mold a new shoe to match the horses foot -My farrier

      Know a little of hoof anatomy before making dumbass comments, they feel no sensation, similar to fingernails, it's made up of dead tissue. The person restoring the hoof knows when cutting an amount is excessive.
