I just love Adam, he needs his own podcast.
And get off this one!
i love Rich for his kind hearted voice and the strength to keep trying to understand the core meaning in all. It is really irreplaceable. He is irreplaceable
I agree. Same with Adam. Men who can be men with hearts that are open, the willingness to be vulnerable and add a lot of hard work in the mix and their significant message is out there for all.
1:15:54 Adam and Rich are on a roll here for a minute.
What a joy to see these two holding journals and books... and how satisfying reading and writing obviously is to these guys. Carry on!
As usual with Roll On, the discussion between Adam and Rich is always enjoyable, and I learn from the two of you. Thank you in this episode especially for bringing up regenerative agriculture in the manner that you did. Both of you added a great deal to the information that is prevalent and did so in a way that is needed and articulate.
Adam looks mature, clever and cooler. I loved this couple and I think this kind of conversation is like sitting in a living room with couple of friends.
Rich - tip for writing from my time doing a philosophy PhD… my first draft of a piece is always me speaking into my laptop/phone and I use speech to text to dictate what I’m saying. It has been the easiest way to overcome self editing when writing for me. You speak your mind stream of consciousness and just have a conversation with yourself about the topic. You will fill pages very quickly, much of it will need a lot of refining and a good chunk will be deleted but I have found it the most effective first pass
I love when Adam joins he add such good insight.
I'm super thankful for this podcast. As I navigate making my life better and fight the addiction of technology and social media, this and 2 other podcasts are my essentials that I allow time for in my life. Thank you, truly deeply I thank you Rich Roll, and I enjoy Adam as well. Always refreshing when he makes an appearance. ❤❤❤
what are the other 2 podcasts if I may ask? as someone who also tries cutting back on technology
@alexzebest1995 hi, thanks for asking. I am im the medical field, so I love The Drive with Peter Attia MD, and like about 6 million other folks, lol, I have learned so much from Huberman Lab. And and also watch the Plant Chompers videos because he is brilliant, and im always working to eat more plants. I'm not vegan like he is, but I do find so much benefit in increasing plants in the diet and limiting animal products.
@@user-jf8dk5nq6o oh I'm sort of in the medical field too. I haven't heard of the third podcast so will definitely give it a try, thanks!
I try to channel Coach Urb daily in my time volunteering as a USA swim coach for my local club.
That fine line of encouragement and pushing athletes beyond their perceived limits and sincere understanding is the constant goal for me.
What a legend, mentor and hero in my life.
I missed Roll On!!! So happy to see it pop up today :)
I loved the conversation you had with Johann Hari and was glad that you asked him some tough questions. If someone isn't being asked the hard questions, conversations tend to be simply promotional and less interesting, IMHO. Maybe the American culture will see the benefits of being a little bit less individualistic. I think you would all benefit from working together.
So many excellent discussion-based content creators/hosts lately! Thank you, Rich, for providing another space for this kind of stuff.
I was surprised to hear the feedback you received Rich, about the episode with Johann Hari. Personally, I thought it was fabulous. Well balanced discussion and both of you had great points.
Hi Kathleen
The two of you are such a great team. I appriciate all the knowlege you bring to my world Rich. You are giving back with every breath you take. Don't stop.Much love from a former SanDiegan, living in Falun Sweden,Marg
Hi Rich, the hari interview was excellent, one of your best. You asked honest questions, respectfully. I LOVED the interview
These convos should happen more than once a quarter. I've always really enjoyed them! Even if they have to be via Zoom. Who cares about the production!
That‘s the kind of conversations you want to have with friends. Fun, deep, open curious in a good way… At least that’s the kind of friends I want - love it. Thank you for letting us in. 😊
The Roll Back episodes just hit different. ❤
This check in should definitely be at the least quarterly thing. So many topics I now have the urge to explore. Thanks for sharing.
So nice to wake up to new Roll on the Listen. Too
Hello Jacqui
First- nothing better than Roll On! I appreciate you discussing Johann Hari episode; however, "compassionate" is not the word i would apply, I still don't get how you as a self proclaimed addict can not grasp food addiction. Some might argue it is harder to overcome since we still need to eat food. Every body is different, just because you were able to lose 40lbs through a given method does not mean the next body can imitate that. I can have a glass of wine or not any given time, but I don't assume every body can tolerate alcohol that way.
Look at the different plant based options and doctors who support relearning food consumption habits. It’s not usually about metabolism. The people who eat when they are not hungry, and this includes me, are more likely to put on weight. Whether it’s stress, or emotions, it’s most likely another trigger than the need for food due to being hunger.
Rick / PLEASE bring back your ‘day in the life’ videos.
The studio stiff is ok, but WE MISS your real world footage!!!
My first look at Adam, all Spotify until I recently discovered you Tube. So nice to see you two❤.
Is it nice ?
Adam, Please list your other books!!!
I was enjoying his book segment. Sad when you stopped it. love Roll On videos☺
Adam, there are great independent gravel and road bikes out there in the USA made out of steel or titanium, you'll be supporting a local workshop and entrepreneur and also you'll have a more long lasting bike, think about circular economies and sustainability... they're less "disposable" and trendy, yet they ride awesome!... One brand is Moots for example, they are in Colorado. best od success!... you'll be hooked immediately after riding some trails and roads!
Think you should have Michael Pollan on. His books are great and Omnivore's Dilemma is especially relevant to your discussion on food chains.
Thx guys. I listened to this twice because I enjoyed it so much. You hit on several of my all time favourite books. Love The Shipping News, and The Artists Way. And as a woman in my 60’s they formed part of my human development early in my life. (Yes old enough to remember watching the first moon landing - on a small BW school TV in Australia). Good luck with your writing projects. I’m looking forward to reading both new offerings. Best wishes. PS The only other thing I watched between your show was the 4th test flight of SpaceX last night.
'we're too grumpy to be astonished'...Amen Adam. I'm sure it was awesome... blech. I'd like to see all of Adams books. Shame on you Rich. Get the best. Get a trek.
Bravo! Enjoy the book recommendations
Excellent!
I am subscribed, and I am watching this. I don't know why. But I can live with that.
I’m glad to hear the reflection of the Hari episode. I felt Rich rubbished Food Addiction, which I found weird as he fully understands Alcohol Addiction.
Hi sandy
This is an interesting episode to watch for how friends display
reciprocity of power and respect - it's never 50-50.
Thanks for an awesome podcast, as always
Love the podcast!
Fyi - I have been using a fountain pen in order to slow down my thoughts and the Lechturns notebooks tend to bleed
I use the Rhodia notebooks - same price and sizes
PREMIUM PAPER !
Love the discussion
PS Im just a blue collar dozer operator - consider my interactions the "wild card" 😅
Adam + book recs: yes, please
Beautiful episode
yay, 15:01 thats my current journal. Leuchtturm, Bauhaus edition, same color :) Also dotted
We just finished a two week trip that covered OHIO, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nebraska. There are freaking cows everywhere… at the steep cost of the loss of countless species. The hog CAFO’s are hidden on the landscape, but the grass-fed cows are everywhere.
Good talk. I like the part on why we should lean into a plant based diet. Good points.
Two more books that act to prime creativity (and probably the only ones I've read) are Big Magic, by Elizabeth Gilbert; and Art & Soul Reloaded, by Pam Grout. A&S Reloaded is a very lighthearted, easy, and fun read that is probably very different from all those serious sounding books that Rich mentioned. Sometimes you just need a light touch. More fun and delight, as you are playing with bringing the creativity. There is my two cents on the matter.
Rich mentions Lisa Miller at 48:00. Her visit to the podcast is one of my favorites!
Leuchtturm - German for Lighthouse. Excellent notebooks.
nice to have adam back..... i would like to have this show 2 per month.
I need to Google this guest. I don’t know him, but I like him!
I understand RR has to address his listeners, but I do often hear him defending/explaining his behavior in past episodes. I half appreciate it because he’s thoughtful and wants to do his best, but the other half of me wants him to say F it. I appreciate him doing push back to his guests and also challenging them. That’s what makes RR RR and I like it. Nicely nice is not why I’m here.
What do you guys think about hydroponic farming and vertical farming?
Would love to hear your opinions on the matter.
Supposedly uses 1/5 of the water and nutrients vs land based farming. And supposedly easier to control the nutrient profile for each crop. Also used far less land.
Yayyyyy!
Canyons are super easy to assemble. I own one. They also have very detailed instructional videos, so I wouldn’t necessarily pay someone to build it. There’s not much assembly required, and that’s by design.
need more roll on episodes. Also, will there be a third goggins book adam??
Good discussion on regenerative agriculture. I could speak to a lot of the complexities of biology and the carbon and nitrogen cycle and limits of the emissions analyses, etc. that you claim to not be an expert in.
But in the end you've hit exactly the right point that the non-expert needs to understand: "regenerative beef" is an economic strategy for farms. It's a response to the tenuous living that high-investment agriculture has forced farmers into. The goal is to create high-value products without requiring high-cost investments such as patented seeds and expensive sprays. It's better than nothing, but it's not optimal either ecologically or nutritionally.
In the same region that a lot of regenerative ranching is happening, you could point to the endurance of growers associated with the Lentil Underground, who subsist by growing high-value plant foods on contract for restaurants and health food retailers, etc. The demand for, like, black lentils, it's obviously smaller than the demand for expensive beef that will absolve you of your environmental guilt, but it does exist and it could grow, especially if the government ever gave full-throated endorsement to what we know to be true about health--that replacing meat foods with pulses would dramatically improve the nation's health.
Although some will be perceptive enough to argue that a dense field of sorghum-sudangrass and hairy vetch captures more carbon in growing than a field of low-growing lentils, the amount of human food that results per unit of land is vastly less. In comparing an acre of "regenerative beef" against, like, an acre of cowpeas, they're not comparing apples to apples. It should be a comparison of a million calories of human-ready beef versus a million calories of human-ready cowpeas.
Broken down this way, an acre given over to regenerative agriculture is not in ecological competition against the same acre covered in cowpeas, but some small fraction of that acre planted in cowpeas and the rest of it left to grow wild.
There's no ecological metric where eating beef results in the optimal ecological outcome. I think there are circumstances where you can argue that growing certain kinds of fish supports the best ecological outcome for a given area, but not beef.
I’ve watched podcasts about regenerative farming that supports cows and lambs grazing and chickens running free outside eating worms but the profit is in the meat. It’s more sane but the reality is that with all of our healthy food options, we have the choice to not be a part of animal kills. Whether people care about this or not, animals have varying degrees of consciousness. They know their offspring and demonstrate emotional distress when separated and show empathy when a mate or offspring die. There are plenty of doctors and others who show us the way to be more humane humans with our diet.
Love your podcast! Imagine by Jonah Lehrer is an awesome book about creativity! give it a read sometime - I found that every time I read it (4 times… once every couple of years) I’m inspired (I keep my notes app open or pen/paper nearby…)
Only time I watch
I don’t get it, what is his ‘practice that changed everything’? Long form writing? It’s not clear to me
I love it, though I am curious why is there a different title for Spotify versus TH-cam?
Please don't start using click bait titles it just makes your endeavor look cheap. And then there isn't a straight answer and a 2h pod instead. I really like your content but on this I feel cheated.
I agree now I am leaving this podcast
I’m sub’d up.
im having fun so 10 years easy
Rich is getting the Andrew Huberman look😆
How fortunate!
Always a good listen with Rich and Adam. Thank you!
I'm so happy I made productive decisions about my finances that changed my life forever, hoping to retire next year.. Investment should always be on any creative man's heart for success in life .
Thanks for the advice! I'm new to financial planning and wasn't sure where to start. Any tips on finding a reliable financial adviser or resource to guide beginners?
As a beginner, it's essential for you to have a mentor that is verified by finra and SEC to keep you accountable. I'm guided by a widely known financial consultant Stacey Macken
Stacey demonstrates an excellent understanding of market trends, making well informed decisions that leads to consistent profit
Yes I can believed that, I got victory with her, was so sad after receiving the first pay knowing I invested so low with fear
This Woman has really change the life of many people from different countries and am a testimony of her trading platform
I miss the “endurance corner”.
Does anyone know where Rich got his white apple watch band from?
So what was the practice that changed everything?.
Was it journaling in the morning ?
WOW! RICH SAT WITH THE DALAI LAMA? Unbelievable!!!!!
Please invite Eckhart Tolle.
Can't they have ruminants on the land but not kill or eat them? Like a small herd that lives out its natural life on the farm? Rescue cows?
I would like to hear more about Adam's book picks.
I thought CM Punk was a guest . Trolled
Their voices could be swapped
i would be cool with allowing adam to speak all the time, rather than being cut off a bit too frequently please (sorry)
Yeah, I've noticed that trend from Roll On. Interesting because Rich doesn't do that with other guests.
@@anthonyfox477 I think that's because they are close friends. Naturally with a good friend, being more relaxed, you might interrupt in a way that you wouldn't with someone you don't know well, with whom you are more "polite" and cautious. But I do think we all should take care and try not to interrupt our friends too often. I've noticed I do it sometimes and I don't want to
And maybe Rich knows that Adam can cope just fine with interruption and Adam knows that Rich doesn’t appreciate his flow being interrupted. I suspect that their off-camera conversations are similarly imbalanced.
“Skolnick”
Guys, you're wrong. Cows (ruminants of some sort) ARE needed as part of a healthy food system. I've been an ethical vegan since 1980. Regenerative methods are legitimately our best hope to better environmental health. Ryland is right. You guys aren't farmers. It's really true that we need animals and plants to grow healthy real food that heals the planet. A lot of vegan foods are far more damaging to the planet compared to grass-finished beef. You need to keep learning on that topic. Please keep learning because you're missing the mark on this one.
👍
👍🏼👍🏼
And some people just want to eat meat - period!
In what ways are cows/ruminants essential for growing crops? Please don’t say storing carbon in soil or providing manure. Both are so incredibly debunked.
Love this podcast. Love rich's new(ish) look. Very sexy
I can barely watch this anymore Rich is entitled and can’t relate to normal people anymore
