  • Chad Rupp is a seasoned musician and bluesman from Portland, Oregon, known for his raw and authentic Portland-style blues. With nearly 25 years in the Portland blues scene, Chad has made a name for himself through his soulful performances and multi-instrumental talents, playing guitar, piano, harmonica, bass, and ukulele.
Growing up, Chad was heavily influenced by blues legends like Muddy Waters and Stevie Ray Vaughan, which inspired his deep connection to the genre. He honed his skills through both self-teaching and mentorship from notable musicians such as Robbie Laws and Jim Mesi on guitar, and DK Stewart on piano.

Their album "Savage’s Life" (2021) and the latest release "The Devil Won’t Get You" (2023) showcase Chad’s dedication to the blues tradition while pushing its boundaries. The band has become a staple in the local music scene, known for their energetic performances and tight musicianship.
In addition to his work with The Sugar Roots, Chad is deeply involved in the local music community, hosting the weekly 1-4-5 Blues Jam Party at The Lair in Milwaukie, where he provides a platform for emerging musicians to develop their craft.
