I'm still amazed that smart educated marketing, designers and craftsman sit around a table and thought up the reverse Flying V. And then the CEO approved it to go into production. You'd think at least one guy sitting at the table would say "Are you sure we wanna do this?" It's about as cool as a turd in a swimming pool!
PRS (I own a couple btw) the best way to turn $4500 into $2200! It’s like financial investing in reverse. Honestly the SE model is a much more sound investment monetarily speaking lol
Ouch...maybe that's why I've never managed to buy one. I've got many other brands including one Carvin but for some odd reason never could bring myself to lay down the cash for a PRS. There was always some small mundane reason (or maybe a good reason?) why the PRS spell was lost on me. My '79 Ibanez ST50 kind of has that PRS vibe to it, is in perfect shape, and was so cheap buying one should be considered a crime.
If you're lefty the only USA PRS guitars "available" are private stock. They offer 500 colour variations on the core guitars (blue slightly darker blue, slightly lighter blue etc, etc) and about 30 models, but not a single lefty outside of private stock.
@hughjarrse That’s not true. They currently made a left-handed SE Custom 24, and they made lefty core model Custom 24 in the past, as well. You’re right, they don’t do many, but they’re not non-existent.
@@RobertWJackson It's absolutely true. I guess you didn't read my comment, I specifically said US model (SE's are offshore) and they don't currently offer ANY of the core models lefty, used to doesn't count, I own two lefty American PRS's so I know they used to. Never argue with a lefty about what's available........ we know exactly what is and isn't available 😁
I just bought a 65 watt solid state Crate combo for $50. Only had to clean a jack. Light, loud, small, reliable, and 'good enough for rock 'n roll' sound. No chorus though :(
@@davidblankenship7985 oh yea but still a killer amp and put it to a 4 12. My first amp was a crate by slm 12" 60 w gain bass treble master and a line out. I used to keep a dummy jack plugged into input 2
By the way, Just picked up a PRS S2 standard 22 for 800 bucks. And man this thing is incredible. The owner bought it 2-4 months ago, slammed new pickups on it, changed out the bridge for a Floyd rose standard bridge, not the floating trem that requires the body to be routed. Locking tuners, this thing had about 6-700$ in parts added and it sings incredibly.
Yeah we had a couple Carvin basses back 20 years ago. Insane quality for the price. I also lived in SD about a mile from the factory store so I would stop in and play the guitars as well, very impressive!
I have a Crate BV120H with Black Tolex my first tube amp and I love it. Its been used 1,000s+ practices, 100+ shows, with over 30 Signed bands. Never had an issue with it. Well there is always that issue with many tube heads having the one handle on top. Seriously are the screws made from vibranium to support that weight? Why not slap my some handles on the sides so I can keep my balance. I began the search for the perfect reverb pedal but I always come back to my crate. Now days I use an ABY pedal to my 6505 for the high gain and crate for clean. I can't find much information on it. So if anyone has a link/info on it, hit me up. I found one on Reverb selling for over $1,000. I bought mine for $150-$200 (cant remember).
You won my heart right off the get go with the B52 amp. My dad was part owner of a bar in Westfield for a number of years and we would have local bands gig for 3 or 4 days in a row. I saw more B52 amps then I ever had. I asked one of the guitarist why and he said the exact same thing as you did. Great tone, rugged and if it gets stolen or damaged, just get another one. Same with their matching cabs
@@RobertWJackson I still have one. Aside from the footswitch not ever working it is awesome. I got the head and cab for $250 and a gear trade on an amp I never used. The only downside is 1) it is heavier than a tank and 2 0 is screams at a tremendous volume.....
As someone who has gotten several amps that got drunk and stopped working and got them working, I %100 AGREE SIT YOUR BEER ON TOP OF YOUR AMP, I am happy to give you $75 bucks for your hot rod deville.
That was funny and informative! As a guy who lives in San Diego, I've always sucked up people's used Carvin's even though I've had several custom made. The best part about buying them used is you can pretty much sell them used for what you bought them used. It's a good gig.
I bought, and sold a mode 4 years ago for about $400. I used a Hartke 4x10 bass cab with it. It was a great combination especially with a 7, or 8 string.
I have a Crate Club 60. Also a wonderful amp though some people say the power amp is weak. I have never had to have it loud enough to test it hard. Love the sound of the amp.
I own 5 Carvins. If you find one for a good price, buy it. You probably won’t regret it. Sometimes, when I want to thin the herd, I’ll start trying them to see who needs to go. But I just can’t do it. There’s something special about each one. You are right about the resale value, but that’s not a problem for me. And my first one will be with me the day I die.
Dude, the inverted flying V sigh was classic! You have a natural comedic execution, this bodes well for the channel. I havent popped a top in 12 years, congratulations on being of an abstained nature for over 20 years! That is inspiring. I have had a PRS SE. It was a great guitar (korean) TremontI Se sans birds, I put a pair of Seymour Duncans in it and it was a screamer. Loved the neck, very flat, dare I say somewhat reminiscent of Jackson? Anyhow I love Jackson necks, cant beat em, but I dont necessarily want all the flashy appointments that come with em. Floyd Rose. Non fretmarker necks. Pointy edges. I was kind of hoping the Tremonti neck was an example of most PRS se's, or was it a one off? I'm kind of way out in the woods or I could travel to a music store and try one. This is a great example of why EVERYThing is not necessarily better because of the internet, with guitars I would need to try before buying. Something could look cool but not be good for me.
@@drivenmad7676 congrats on the sobriety brother! One day and one step at a time. Fellow rural survivor and guitar picker over the border in New Hampshire.
Loved the reaction to the reverse flying v! That's the same way I felt when the picture of it popped on. Lol!!! I quit drinking alcohol around 25 yrs ago, myself. My partying life that I acquired in college took me about ten yrs to let go of. Keep on rocking Brother Robert!
PRS market - "Blues Laywers" lol, I legit laughed out loud. For the most part, but there are players like Mark Tremonti. PRS is the guitar that can wear any genre, any style, and still arguably be the best guitar in the respective class.
PRS has done a phenomenal job marketing. They have gotten behind many TH-camrs which the newer guitarists tend to look up to and want to play the same guitars they play. I still don’t care for them, I think they are ugly and remind me of creed and nu metal.
@@user-tz2zz5ij1s they were THE preeminent nu-metal guitar. And to each their own of course, but don't let that genre or Creed fool you, Mark Tremonti is known as the Tremonster because of shred ability coupled with his unparalleled riff writing 👍
@@SolarWarden88 I never said Tremonti wasn’t a great guitar player. I never really cared for Creed (I’m an early 90’s Pearl Jam guy). I’ve played a few different PRS’s, they are nice but they just don’t do anything for me. Plus some of the interviews I’ve seen with Paul, he kind of comes off as a d’ck, so that also has turned me off in the more recent years.
I still have my 2000 year model Carvin LB75 greenburst. Opening up the case the first time my guitar player said, "oh wow". He dubbed it the Green Monster.
Love the Blue Voodoo amps. Have had a few over the years but ended up selling them to fund other purchases. Will probably end up with another at some point and then keep it. Some of the US made Crate solid state amps are quite good too. I really like the GX130C and the GT200H. Personally, I think the GT200H did the whole hybrid thing better than a LOT of other amps.
@@RobertWJackson The GX130C is definitely easier to find than the GT200. Hard to go wrong with either really. One of the channels on my 200 is currently out, probably cold solder joint or something. Just haven't had time to mess with it.
@@low_e_music THEY are easier to work on than you may think ! I have a crate vintage club 5212 and I did have to re flow some solder points when I first got it because it was cutting in volume so I tried at first cleaning all the in put jacks with no fix l, so then I opened it up and noticed some ugly joints and re flow solder into them and now it works great ! 👍 Come to find out after years of flipping big dollar and big name tube amps this blonde crate vintage club is still the best sounding amplifier I've ever heard, side from the crate vintage club 50 my dad has that turned me on to the crate vintage club in the first place, his just sound a little better and brighter so maybe his had the bright cap clipped 🤷 I'll have to check next time I get a chance🤔 but yeah the best way to describe the tone of my crate vintage club is tweed fender Bassman or high powered tweed twin on the clean channel and the best VINTAGE Marshall's tone you ever heard on the drive channels it's just freaking amazing ! Sadly the amp is either too loud for most bar and club gigs or not loud enough for full band stage volume which was the most basic of gigs I would normally do so I ended up just using my Marshall half stack for the loud big shows and a Fender deluxe black face daisy chained into a twin reverb amp for most bar and club gigs and that worked out pretty good ! One time I played this crazy monster truck off-road festival and it was 2000+ people and the stage was on a hill with a bon fire at the base of the hill like a Woodstock type stage and I did not have enough volume to ever hear myself with a Marshall 50 watt jcm half stack into a 50 watt fender Bassman half stack so we propped up the twin reverb and Daisy chained my guitar into the low input channel and my bass player into the high channel because I couldn't hear him across the stage either so we cranked the 100 watt twin reverb 212 combo up all the way and abbracalwahla I could hear the stage sound and it was immense and glorious and we played all night till the fire damn near burnt out ! Thanks for bringing up crate because it just took me back to a great memory👍🥂
@@AuntAlnico4 Great story there! I have always loved Crate amps. For the money and performance, they were pretty hard to beat. Always wanted to try out one of the Vintage Club series but never got around to it. They come up for sale fairly quickly frequently so I may pick one up at some point and give it a shot. As for repairing mine, I will get around to it soon. One of my other amps (Jet City 100HDM) is currently on the bench getting some mods so maybe after that. I will probably trace the signal on the Crate with my audio probe until I lose the sound and then just fix whatever the problem is. You're probably right about it being a cold solder joint. It used to be work fine, then one channel's volume started getting intermittent. After a while, it just cut out altogether. I am getting proper readings on the power amp side so I am pretty sure the signal loss is on the preamp.
I’ve got a Crate G130 CXL. I’ve had it since 1994. Around 2001 it stopped working, but I kept it,around 2016 I plugged it in and let it warm up awhile and it started working again but only on channel A. So distortion only,no clean,so now I can’t use effect pedals anymore. Not sure what’s going on,but I still use it.
I own a Carvin guitar, Carvin bass, and a Kiesel guitar. They are easily some of the best guitars I have ever played. I have no intention of ever selling them. Same for my Carvin Belair 212 amp. My favorite clean tone ever. Won't ever sell that one. Same for my PRS. I don't have a core model, but I do have a Private Stock Studio and it is exquisite. It has the most incredible clean tone of any guitar I have ever heard. That one ain't going anywhere, ever. I'm certainly no blues lawyer though. Just a regular guy with a regular job who does the best he can with his money. PRS is pricey, but man, their quality is impeccable, unlike my Gibsons, which all have some sort of quality issues, and that includes the Custom Shop V Standard... Thanks for the video. 🤘
@@imandan1966 They have lots of different pickups, and plenty of their guitars sound good. Besides, Pickuos are stupid easy to swap, and you can even have them build a guitar with whatever pickups you want.
I sold all of my carvin guitars. I currently have two Kiesels though and every time I think of selling them I simply can't because every time I compare them to another guitar the other guitar isn't as good
Oh man, when I got to you and the Gibson Reverse - I giggled, watched it again, giggled, and did it again! Lol Man, I remember writing off Crates, until I tried one of their all-tube Vintage line. IIRC, they were white with gold piping and emblem? Sounded fantastic, but I had just bought my Egnater TOL 50 2X12 (which I love to this day), and I had concerns about their reliability (this was all around 1998-'99) I think I'm going to see if I can locate one. Great rundown. Thanks!! Paul in Austin
@Stephen Holt No they weren’t. The speakers that came in their cabs and combos were garbage, but if you run most of those amps into a a good cab with good speakers, you’ll be shocked how good those amps sound. I proved it on my channel recent, and so did Arnold Plays Guitar.
You had me going on the Norlin era Gibson's. My 1978 standard is an amazing guitar. Probably the best playing guitar that I own. And the prize of the Norlin era stuff has skyrocketed lately
Part of that was a joke, but there are A LOT of Norlin-era Gibson’s that are complete garbage. I’ve run across plenty of them. Unfortunately, Gibson’s QC was not very consistent back then, and they aren’t all as nice as your ‘78 Standard.
On a similar note, I saw Turisas (Finnish folk/power metal band) open for DragonForce back in like 2005. They were about to play "One More" (a heavy metal drinking song), so they asked a crew member to bring them out some beer. It was a 12-pack of PBR. Their singer took a swig, spit it out and was like, "What is this piss? Is this what you serve your foreign dignitaries?! Blue Ribbon? How nasty was the swill that won the *red* ribbon then!"
Goodlord, you're spot on talking about PRS'S. Used market for a near perfect custom 22/24...lucky to get half. With that said, i highly recommend getting a S2 line. Made in Maryland and a quality guitar! The pickups are imported, but for $200 i imagine you could swap them. Love the pair i have.
I have a BV 120, and it is a monster. I picked it up for about $200 a few years ago, but I still need to find a local amp guy to take a look at it. I think it may just be scratchy gain pot, but I'd like to have it gone thru just because. I had an Excaliber back in the day, it was the solid state cousin of the BV. It was a decent amp, but really came alive with any boost up front, pretty much doubled the output
Modeling pedals have to be one of the worst investments there ever was... Sooooooooo many for sale used, I wonder why? Buttwiper is the same could never finish even one before their headache would come. Have no idea how they make those but scary...
New and improved can refer to product function of a given product as compared to a newer version even though the two products are nothing alike. For example let’s consider the humble corn cob as compared to the snazzier roll of Charmin Toilet Tissue (and it’s historical predecessors of the roll of toilet paper). Those first toilet tissue rolls, compared to the dried Corn Cob, were not only new, they were an unequivocal improvement. Hope this helps. lol
Awesome video. I actually picked up another mode 4 just because at 180 it was just too clean and inexpensive to pass on. plus this one had the footswitch too.
Reverb is probably the LAST place you’ll find them. Reverb is the biggest farce of the M.I. used market on the planet. Everybody selling their used gear on Reverb thinks their stuff is gold just because it’s theirs. Check eBay and Guitar Center’s used site instead.
I am curious how the Mighty Gorilla GG-20 amp has held up in value over time. Yeah Carvin guitar and amp re sale back in the day was terrible. Awesome stuff but no re sale value. Never had an Old Milwaukie but i will take your word. Great Video Robert
Haha we had a bass player come out back in like '95 with a Gorilla stack. 2 15" cabs but they were really shallow and projected like hell without much low end. One of the worst bass tones I ever heard lol but a funny memory!
I loved the 'no comment' for the reverse Flying V. Old so Dave Davies in '65 (he apparently paid $100 for his '58), Andy Powell, UFO and all. IBZ RR Sr and Cort Arrow (Denner, Mercyful Fate type) here but i can't recall hating any gear offering more than this. Hell, i'd forgotten about the damn thing !
eBay completed listing (i.e. what people have actually PAID for them, not asking prices), Guitar Center’s used site. GC has a used one right now for $314.99.
My favorite guitar that I own is my Carvin DC 145. That one will be with me until I die. I once owned a Carvin X60b head and a Carvin 4x12 cab. My favorite amp that I have ever owned. I do regret letting it go, but I'm not currently gigging, and my back isn't in good enough shape to be lugging around a half stack. My current amp does fall into the "value has tanked" category, the Peavey Valveking 112. After upgrading the stock tubes and speaker, she's a screamer.
The PRS thing is really interesting to me. I can only explain that by assuming they're for people who NEED to say they paid a small fortune, and the fact that they happen to be quality guitars is less important than that.
Man, I’m watching this with my B-52 sitting not 5 feet away from me. I bought it to use as a spare for my YBA-1. Doesn’t hold a candle to my Traynor but it’s great sounding amp in it’s own right.
I never used a boost or an overdrive with mine because I thought it already had plenty of gain as it was, but that was also before that technique started to define the modern high-gain tone that it has today. I may track down another one just for that. LOL
@@RobertWJackson I traded a boss GL-100 preamp and an old MXR rack delay for it. As much as that thing was a hidden gem, it’s even better. Stupid good deal
Godin Guitars in Canada. They are extremely well made, in Canada, using high quality components , sound great and are not expensive to begin with considering they are made with workers that are being paid a decent wage, but the re-sale on them is awful. I think they are sleepers and some of the best value for money and I keep waiting for the market clue in but that has not happened. Yet, they are sold worldwide and Godin has managed to keep afloat when other companies went bust and they manage to compete with cheap Asian imports. For example, they make a telecaster copy as good or better than a US Fender at half the cost.
I had a PRS-One & Loved-it. A gift from my dad. Made the mistake of leaving it behind when I moved to California and my cousin just walked into my mom’s house and stole it … probably snorted it. I’ll replace it someday, but I really wish he hadn’t done that. How would the Marshall you just showed take pedals?
I've had the Mode Four, a 90's JCM 900, A 2203 JCM 800, a JTM 45, and a Studio Classic (mini 800). Out of all of them I only have my Mode Four now. It's built like a TANK and isn't as fussy as an all tube amp. Run the time based effects in the loop and stick an overdrive in the front and get the footswitch. You can get any tone you want out of the thing for a fraction of the others cost. I have both the straight and slanted cabs too. I'm a bit of a fan
6 months ago I was lucky enough to be able to buy a Gibson Les Paul Custom from the '60's to current - regardless of the price. After trying out 50 - 60 guitars, I decided that the best Custom that I had come across was was a '68 Custom Authentic Reissue from 2002. Of course, people are looking for different things when buying a Custom, but in terms of sheer build quality, playability and sound, I found the '68 Reissue to be a far higher quality version of this iconic instrument.
Back in 2009 people were telling me to get of my Fernandes Nomad Deluxe and get a real guitar. So I went to a music store and spend 3 hours in the store looking for a guitar I wanted. The best 2 guitars I saw were a used PRS for $450.00 and a Squier Hollow Body Telecaster for $350.00 brand new. Believe it or not, after playing them both, the Squier had a better sound . So I turned down the PRS and got the Squier. So yes I agree that a used PRS aint worth a shit. Still have my Squier today and love playing it.

The Marshall Mode 4…it has enough power to be used as a bass guitar amp and I’m wondering if one plugged a decent outboard bass preamp (pedal or rack Mount) running from one’s bass to the outboard preamp and then into the effects loop return (assuming it’s post in relation to the amp’s own preamp stage) and finally the amp’s output to a 4x10” bass cab or other appropriate bass cab (power handling and impedance matched), would this serve as a bassist’s live stage gig rig?
I have no idea. You generally should never play a bass through a guitar amp because guitar speakers are not designed to handle those ultra-low frequencies and, thus, have a tendency to blow. So I suppose it would depend on what can you are using it with.
Great examples Sir. Don't get me wrong i hope that you aren't to much influential and prices of those amps will stay down. Crate V are also great amps, USA made and i like imported as well. BTW i like your videos, i don't subscribe often but i might do it for your channel in the future
I don't know why PRS guitars are so expensive now. It was not always that way. I still have a core custom 24 (10 top quilt, solid rosewood neck and bird inlays) that I bought new for $1700.00 I also still have a singlecut trem (10 top quilt, solid rosewood neck and bird inlays) that I bought new for $1750.00 Granted, that seemed a lot of money to me at the time, but seems cheap now. They would bring more than that now on the used market.
I paid $229 at Guitar Center for mine earlier this year. Somebody else commented a day or two ago that they recently picked one up at a pawn shop for $175. They’re out there.
The Blue Voodoo 120 watt head that I heard had an excellent clean tone much like a good Twin Reverb. It had 4 6L6s. I’ll buy the next one I find locally for the right price. Fun video. Thanks.
eBay and Guitar Center’s used site. There may not be any available at the moment, but that’s what I’ve seen them sell for. I paid $230 for mine back in the day.
A new iteration of an existing product can be both New and Improved. A such and such Mark 2, would be both new and Improved over the Mark 1 such and such.
You need to a video on each best deal each of us has got. Like my Boogie S O B for $800. Free shipping. Now for what it is the price is crazy good. But this will never be sold as long as I'm alive. I own a 50 watt Crate Stealth tube head .......I listed it for sale for $225 dollars (with brand new Groove tubes and a fresh re-bias) with no takers ! Hey Robert, how does the Blue Voodoo compare to the GT500-H? I got mine for like $120, and the clean channel is awesome for the country cleans! The drive channel, well, not so much...
6:40 To be fair; most people I know who bought Carvin guitars never had any interest in selling them anyway; they are definitely a player's instrument. Bought my first koa DC200 for only $600 back in 1981 - I also bought a flamed koa DC 135 in 2000 for $1400. I'm married to them alright - very happily. That said; I will confess that both have been electronically modified pretty extensively. I also own an Alembic Further (an $8k instrument) and I think they both compare with it VERY favorably. I honestly think of them as being kind of irreplaceable. I'm gonna dis Jeff Kiesel for knowing his target demographic; but I'm not really as impressed with the Kiesel offerings though - a bit too expensive (truth is they actually cost what they SHOULD now). They're also not really my cup of tea from a style perspective; but then again I'm a 57 year old fart. The new models are a bit too much on the gaudy side for me...but that's what the heavy metal kids all go for these days; more power to them. But most significantly for me is that they don't really make any 3 pickup, neck-thru models anymore - unless you want a 7 or 8 string...even then the choices are fairly limited. Most of the designs are really pushing 2 pickup layouts. They also seem to be trying to distance themselves from neck-through designs altogether. From a production standpoint though, I'm not sure I can blame them. Neck-through instruments require more labor and production time to build than a set neck or bolt-on. But it's SO worth it.
Early 70's Gibsons were great. Then the absentee management flaws from Norlin really started to kick in around '73, '74, with a steady decline settling in that came to a head in '83/'84. I know this because this is the time frame (early 80's) where my dad stopped playing Gibsons and started playing Strats and Teles. He now has an Epiphone ES-335, but all of his other guitars are Strats, Teles, and 70's/80's clones thereof.

I’d be willing to bet that he’d had it listed at $3600 for so long, he was ready to just get what he could for it, and was probably thrilled you offered $2200 after every other offer he’d received were all under $2000.
PRS doesn't hold their value because no matter how good they may be they are overpriced as hell to start with, just my personal opinion and worth exactly what you paid for it.
I had the Blue covered Blue Voodoo half stack It was a great amp but too friggin heavy, and the cabinet was super wide and bulky I had other more practical toys so I traded it off. I paid about $350 for the half stack.
Why are PRS guitars notorious for losing value? I have the SE custom 24 made in Korea and it's my favorite guitar. I picked it up used for 350 bucks less than when it was new. By the way it was only 7 months old when I bought it.

Ya thats rough man theres been a few models i thought were cool but im never comfortable playing one. But damn that sucks bro....good to know
If you're lefty the only USA PRS guitars "available" are private stock.
Big fan of Crate USA made amps..all of em.Their chorus is amazing
I just bought a 65 watt solid state Crate combo for $50. Only had to clean a jack. Light, loud, small, reliable, and 'good enough for rock 'n roll' sound. No chorus though :(
I had a V1512 made in USA 1x12. It was pretty amazing and you can grab them for $100.

Old Milwaukee beer is mowing the lawn beer. Tastes great on a hot sunny day
By the way, Just picked up a PRS S2 standard 22 for 800 bucks.
There was a lot of people around here who had those amps. We sold a lot of them at Guitar Center, new and used.
@@RobertWJackson I still have one. Aside from the footswitch not ever working it is awesome. I got the head and cab for $250 and a gear trade on an amp I never used. The only downside is 1) it is heavier than a tank and 2 0 is screams at a tremendous volume.....
They are boat anchors. I do remember that about mine. It was hell lugging that thing around to gigs.
I would never consider selling my core model PRS. Who in their right mind would? They are perfect!!!!

More guitarists need to use bass cabs!
It worked for Josh Homme in Kyuss.

I regretted all four of them. I sold them. I'm glad you like it though

PRS market - "Blues Laywers" lol, I legit laughed out loud. For the most part, but there are players like Mark Tremonti. PRS is the guitar that can wear any genre, any style, and still arguably be the best guitar in the respective class.
Absolutely, they’re phenomenal instruments. And plenty of people who buy them new are not blues lawyers. But let’s face it, most of them are. LOL
If only they didn't have those freaking bird inlays!

Plus some of the interviews I’ve seen with Paul, he kind of comes off as a d’ck, so that also has turned me off in the more recent years.

Those are some of the harder ones to find, too. I know a few people who are on the hunt for a GX130C in particular.
Come to find out after years of flipping big dollar and big name tube amps this blonde crate vintage club is still the best sounding amplifier I've ever heard, side from the crate vintage club 50 my dad has that turned me on to the crate vintage club in the first place, his just sound a little better and brighter so maybe his had the bright cap clipped 🤷 I'll have to check next time I get a chance🤔 but yeah the best way to describe the tone of my crate vintage club is tweed fender Bassman or high powered tweed twin on the clean channel and the best VINTAGE Marshall's tone you ever heard on the drive channels it's just freaking amazing !
Nope, totally disagree. Their guitars are thin sounding due to their pickups being terrible.
@@imandan1966 They have lots of different pickups, and plenty of their guitars sound good. Besides, Pickuos are stupid easy to swap, and you can even have them build a guitar with whatever pickups you want.

Part of that was a joke, but there are A LOT of Norlin-era Gibson’s that are complete garbage. I’ve run across plenty of them. Unfortunately, Gibson’s QC was not very consistent back then, and they aren’t all as nice as your ‘78 Standard.

Hope this helps. lol

The Mode Four? I’ll try it and get back with you.

Couldn't have said it myself for the Reverse Flying V.

My Norlin Les Paul Custom is my #1 stage guitar and I love it. My Carvin TL60 won the Guitar Player Magazine's Tele shootout in 1995. I don't worry about resale value. Whin I buy a guitar, it's forever.
Tbh it wasn’t expensive to begin with but honestly one the of the best head I’ve owned and one of the only ones that I still own is a BlackHeart BH15/BH5. They are sooo cheap and soooooo good. An absolute steal.
I am definitely going to look for that marshal amp, thanks
That was fun! Thanks for getting my day started off on the right foot. Yea, the reverse flying Vee....Why?
🤣🤣🤣
The Gibson reverse flying V AKA the Mahogany nightmares are made of
Carvin made great instruments and amps.I still own a V 440 bass and it is all around awesome.
Had a '78 Les Paul Custom that was just a great guitar. Sold it about 2 years ago for half what it would fetch now.
I have a BV60 but you have already convinced me to replace it with a used Peavy 6505 someday. It would look so boss sitting in between my Marshall and Randall heads. And are blues lawyers anything like Harley lawyers?
Yep, very similar to Harley lawyers. Half the time their one and the same. LOL
Blue Voodoo is a good value if can find a clean one
I feel the same way about Busch Beer that you feel about Old Mil Piss. I personally believe that Busch Beer is the Budweiser that they screw up.
Busch Beer is also some nasty ass beer. Throw Natty Ice and Bud Light in there while we’re at it. LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I can't argue with your reasoning on the Reverse Flying V.
RIGHT??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I own a 50 watt Crate Stealth tube head .......I listed it for sale for $225 dollars (with brand new Groove tubes and a fresh re-bias) with no takers ! It's such a great sounding versatile amp .....I took the listing down and decided to keep it as replacing it would cost a lot more for most likely a lesser amp ! What was I thinking !
I’ll be happy to pay you $225 for that amp right now. LOL
@@RobertWJackson How ? I left an reply with an email address but it was removed ! Like 90% of my comments ! Someone (TH-cam censors?) Doesn't like my name I guess !
Shoot me an email at robertsguitardungeon@gmail.com.
@@wisdomoverfear2685 Yep...LGB will get ya censored. Friggin' ScrewTube.
If you buy it Robert, I'll buy it from you 😁
Hank Williams III uses the Crate BV300h as a live back up amp.
I've got a 72 Goldtop LP Deluxe all original save one refret. I've owned it since 75. It's one of the best playing, sweetest sounding guitars I've ever played. The Mini HBs, sing and handle gain really well. Maybe there were some mediocre Gibson's in the 70s, but mine is not one of them.
Who buys gear thinking they are gonna sell for a profit … i accept the fact it is the opposite of investing. most of the stufff is worth a fraction of its former price
I sell gear at a profit all the time. LOL Just gotta but it right and get into it at the right price.
Hey Robert, how does the Blue Voodoo compare to the GT500-H? I got mine for like $120, and the clean channel is awesome for the country cleans! The drive channel, well, not so much...
Probably about like a Corvette compares to a Pontiac Fiero. LOL
This is actually very accurate. I agree completely.
@@mejoe5284 , it was Sonex. The body was covered in hard foam, like the foam board used as house insulation. To kill feedback perhaps? It kills tone as well.
Reverse flying V? Was he joking? I hope.
Nope, it’s real. Gibson put it out as a Guitar Of The Week in 2007.
B52 guitar amps were actually made by Egnater. Idk who makes their PA stuff. Seems Egnater is going the same direction as B52, considering their website hasnt been updated since 2006
Bruce has been designing stuff for Synergy the last few years, rather than focusing on his own brand.
The Marshall Valvestate amps are like $350 used I might end up buying one for a buddy who is trying to get into Metal.
If those are selling for $350, they’ve DOUBLED in price. You used to be able to pick those things up for $175 or less all day long.
I have a VS100. You have to be careful EQ-ing it to avoid the overcooked sound but for
Dont buy the vs232 2x12 combo. No tube, and the circuit board is junk. Sounds great the three or four days a year it "decided" to work.
@@giraffewaggoner8119 yep I had a cheap bass amp and it only worked for like 2 months then the circuit board blew and it was a berhringer amp. Also the Valvestate 2x12 combo has a faulty circuit board too plenty of cheap amps are like that.
Used PRS Core’s hold their value extremely well outside of the USA.
USED PRS Guitars do, but not NEW ones.
Try our new and improved bottle of Road Conditioner. It now conditions the road while you drive even better then it ever did before.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I scored a mint PRS core 24 in faded whale blue. It was on reverb for 3600 obo. I threw in an offer of 2200, not expecting to get it. It's hanging on my wall.
I had the Blue covered Blue Voodoo half stack
It was a great amp but too friggin heavy, and the cabinet was super wide and bulky
I had other more practical toys so I traded it off. I paid about $350 for the half stack.
That’s about what I paid my first Blue Voodoo half-stack, as well.
just got my b52 at 100 head for 150 plus shipping at guitar center shipped
Buck Dharma used a Blue Voodoo for years in the 90s.
I used to have a B-52, excellent amp, I remember paying around $200 back in 2013.
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Why are PRS guitars notorious for losing value? I have the SE custom 24 made in Korea and it's my favorite guitar. I picked it up used for 350 bucks less than when it was new. By the way it was only 7 months old when I bought it.
I’ve never been able to figure it out. For being some of the nicest guitars out there, they sure don’t hold their value very well at all.
@@RobertWJackson I'm not complaining, I made out like a bandit 🤑
Love your reviews Robert
Thanks, but I rarely do reviews, just demos and opinion videos that seem to piss off a lot of people. LOL
I'm glad the reverse V made an appearance!
