YES!!! T-L-G-T-W THEORYCRAFTING CONTENT! while i do appreciate your usual conceit about remaining 100% within the realm of canon, i love when you turn those snake-eyes towards the realm of speculation and guesswork, Your observational prowess is unmatched and naturally your comprehensive understanding of canon means you have an extremely solid foundation from which to theorycraft

Great video! Some of my favorite Elden Ring content is discussing the geologically-sound explanations for more of the world's story that can be dived into. No drama, but I particularly enjoyed the segment on "Leyndell's Hidden History". It is a fun theory on a possibility for what happened to that part of Leyndell, but his explanation was just, "it floats down!" lol. Even back when it dropped, my group on discord were like... but it doesn't fit?!
"Mt. Leyndell" is a much more logically-sound assessment, and ties in beautifully with the geographical anomaly of the city and area. I remember reading the description for the Smithing Stone 5/6 and wondering, how did gold became tied into the very stone surrounding the Erdtree? Makes more sense that the "gold" is in fact from the basaltic rock of a huge ecological event! And we get some artistic portrayal of the event in Volcano Manor, funny enough. One of many inumerous blasphemies is of a painting depicting the Erdtree aflame. I'm not alone in thinking it being proof of a prior event of the Erdtree burning, but what if it's simply that? The vision that banished prophets see, when they see heretical pyromancy.
Gransax's Calamity is a much more significant event in the explanation of the destruction prevalent in the area, including where the front gate of Leyndell lead to. The bridge connecting it to the Capital! There's even more evidence of it's destruction I have some theories about.
Two Ulcerated Tree Spirits, one in the Capital Outskirts leading to that gate and the other at the area near the foot of Gransax' remains. These are usually located underground next to roots or near Minor Erdtrees, where they're a possible result of some sort of distress that has occurred. But maybe these two are also caused by distruction of Gransax' assault on the Erdtree? More to chew on. I'm interested in hearing more of the "war of the dragons", maybe a future video topic?

I do really hope to make a video about the Dragons, I think they're awesomest fucking things ever and the stuff surrounding them and Faram Azula and the pieces of their city falling from the sky and the fact that they're like dinosaurs and just everything else about them make up what's currently my favourite storyline in the game. Hopefully there'll be enough material in the DLC for me to make an actual episode about them in ERwSET Season 2.

If Gransax's attack on Leyndell happened well before the shattering, and thus the main gate of the city led to a lake, this actually helps solve the mystery of Godefroy.
All the evidence points to Godrick being inside the capital during the first siege of Leyndell and having to flee either during or following the battle, meaning he couldn't have been leading the army. But if they were attacking a gate that was already useless, as seen in the trailer, then the attacking army must not have known about the damage. Godrick was not at all involved in the siege, then. It was all Godefroy.

I'm not convinced there are enough indications to think of the flame bursting is them crying. I also not convinced that the frenzied flame is akin to sadness or depression.
In the game there are characters that get the frenzied flame after experiencing something sad, like that knight father that came too late for his daughter that got killed by a mistborn.
But as you can see he doesn't have frenzied flame as he is sad. It is something that comes after.
I think that suggest that sadness leads people to try to understand the world in context to what happened, and the answers might lead to new beliefs that fosters the frenzied flame.
And I think it's actually a lack of faith. Or faith, but negative-faith as some of these characters would call it a greater truth. (I also think of it as similar to insight from bloodbourne. A special kind of insight that is infectious)
I think the frenzied flame is better understood in context of the story 'the king in yellow', which is several stories unrelated, set in the world of HP Lovecraft, describing a thing very similar to the frenzied flame.
It's a force that exists through a belief or obervance of a truth, but might not exist by itself. It kind of like a ideology made into a monster, and kind of maybe a force symbolizing like propaganda, nihilistic truths and the power these things have in our lives.

      I really like this theory.
I always thought it not as a volcano, but as an ant hill of sorts. Marika's and her kids' roads always seem to lead to bugs. You bring up a good point though, that a sudden influx of water down the magma paths would have the jarring physical effects on the world we see, even above ground the ground is seemingly caving in. It's also notable that the underground cities use black rock in their architecture, which may be obsidian. I also take note that the Scaedu tree is leaking, and an early area has a river of gold.
The premise regardless seems to be filtration, with rot at the lowest possible area under Caria with the Lake of Rot, as I think Tarnished Archeologist is right about that part.
That being said, I totally believe the assertion that the Shunning grounds was meant to hide Deeproot Depths, and in fact I believe the crime of the merchants and of Shibriri was telling the truth about the inner workings of Lyndell, particularly because they travel so word would spread if they were allowed to continue.
I particularly like how Hyetta and Vyke would have had to take a different path, especially since Vyke shares some similarities about what we know about Godwyn.
It's also notable how the Frenzy seemingly comes from the Faith of the Two Fingers (who are assassin's and priests and are of the same coloring that Marika wears, as well as the Two Fingers sigil on the hidden path to the mysteries below Lyendell.
Overall, I'll be adopting the volcano theory, as it fits very nicely with my idea of Marika having a destiny she herself divested herself up, uprooting all tradition to save herself - which in the end only made the system more convoluted but the process unchanged. Sacrifices beget magic.
I'm glad you touched on the original trailer. Pele's hair is a good point!
Your theory presents to my existing headcanon an idea that Marika was a deathbed and kindling maiden, homed in a Volcano much like Rykard (which we see in the newer story) merging souls to burn to rebirth the world, chosen by the Two Fingers. From this refusal of tradition, madness is born (Shibriri and Hyetta focus on not burning your maiden, Mohg's followers stop the process by murdering maidens and killing lords who's energy could be used, Margit stopping could-be lords in their tracks - both of which hide the path to Deeproot Depths).
Thank you for this video, it's very good and very eye opening with lots of brainfood.

      Hold on hold!
Consider this for a moment, Godwyn’s deathblight was sort of a threat to the Erdtree, right? The Erdtree used to be connected to the Great True root system but was severed from it to avoid dying. How was it disconnected?
I suggest, the tree and a good portion of the land were lifted and twisted a bit. That’s why the Erdtree now leans. Looking at the Deeproot Depths we see there is one root stalk that is clearly the biggest, it was where the Erdtree was connected. Godwyn’s living corpse is in a smaller root stalk (I can’t think of the word, if their is one for this part).
On the surface, there is the a dying Minor Erdtree with a deathblighted Omen. Both that tree and the Erdtree have the same spacing and positioning of the aforementioned root stalk thingies.. except they are slightly off.
So maybe the hole for the big shaft is… obscured… no, wait. Mirrors. Marika had a system of mirrors installed to shine light to her gross looking children.

Hyetta is a body snatcher, similar to Shabriri and Gowry.
      Maybe…
She may actually have been down there the whole time or is not actually down there at all. I doubt Morgott and Sellen are the only ones able to project their image.

One farm… ok so, this is actually part of my favorite pet theory.
There is no death after the Rune of Death was removed from the Elden Ring. Bodies can break, age, decay, etc. but the living critter’s soul continues to animate it.
So, eating is a horrifying action. Like, you know how the poo stays moist and warm forever? It is still alive.
Those slime things? People or animals who muscles still function despite the rest of their body decaying to mushy goo.
Kind people scoop out their own insides in an effort to prevent hunger pangs.

Oh wow, i think this helps to unify soe other lore theories. There is a popular theory, i believe propagated by Ratotasr, that the Eternal Cities at some point became 'underground' and used to be above ground, that they 'sank' at some point. i've seen theorists like Quelaag respond that the eternal cities look intentionally built rather than shifted. What if both are true. What i when your Mt Lleyndel was 'raised' the eternal cities were simply left behind. What if the Greater will raised the plateau specifically to bury the eternal cities, leaving them behind with a false sky?

Where I'm from literally all soft drinks are referred to as 'Coke' regardless of what brand or actual kind of soft drink it is. Pepsi? Its Coke. Root Beer? Coke. Cream Soda? You guessed it, Coke. Every restaurant waiter/waitress that works at a place that does not sell Coca-Cola products also pre-injects the statement "Sorry, we don't have Coca-Cola products here" before you order your drink to let you know ahead of time. Probably not hard to guess what is popular here lmao.
