So Mugabe's ZANLA guerrillas were supposed to stay in assembly points but many were still opperating as usual, and were complaining because the Auxillaries were responding with sweeps to curb their actions in areas where they shouldn't even be.

Thus far nothing beats the interview Pres R Mugabe gave just before the election, where he was asked if he believe in democracy then should accept that the Bishop can win the election. Pres Mugabe's response was both empathic and candid as he said "if Bishop were to win, then the Devil can win the election in Heaven", I have never heard of anything before or since

Muzorewa had backers in South Africa providing him with a jet, his rallies were policed by white police and white people brought their workers to his rallies while his auxiliary forces were led by a British mercenary. Surely, whose side was he on? Whose interests were he advancing? As for Gukurahundi, we have to understand that many of the people in ZANU and government in the 80s had fought a brutal war for nearly 15 years. Gukurahundi was a tragedy caused by traumatized war veterans getting paranoid. As much as Mugabe was leader, he didn't have complete control until he became executive president in 1987.
