One of my favorites, and arguably one of Lovecraft's best. That sudden left turn in the last third of the story, when it becomes clear how truly Inescapable Derby's fate is... fucking chills.
LETS GOOOOOOO, ANOTHER BANGER TO ADD TO MY LOVECRAFT PLAYLIST! i always reccomend your readings to friends of mine who want to get into Lovecraft but find it a slog to actually read through (which i also do, lol) and your audiobooks are widely beloved amongst us! you have a great voice for them. i’d love to hear any more renditions of other classic weird tales. i also adore your reading of Psychosis!
Haha that’s bananas, I was reading this and thought “oh he appreciates these like I do, I wonder if he’s seen the video for Psychosis”. Glad to see we appreciate the same things so much.
I recently discovered that H.P. Lovecraft’s favourite story of all time was a novella called ‘The Willows’ by English author Algernon Henry Blackwood. Never read it myself but if anyone is interested it could be something to look into.
Nobody adapts SCPs to audio form like you do, you have a wonderful talent for translating the text to a spoken narrative. And yet, it's the audiobooks I truly most enjoy. I'm so glad you've been able to keep working on them through all the other changes, I know they take a lot of time in the background between other videos and we all really appreciate it.
I love the SCP stuff but it’s these here that I look forward to the most. Literally the only TH-camr that’ll do a whole audiobook like this and I’ll drop whatever I’m doing, within reason, and listen from beginning to end. The writing is, of course, incredible but the delivery is what makes it so compelling and worth listening to even though I know the story and outcome already. Thanks for always delivering and I don’t mean to just praise this work to an annoying extent, but I gotta hope the comment helps with the algorithm and hope that you read this and know how appreciated it is.
This isn't HPL's best story, but it's probably Mangg's best reading ever. I complained about his Zadok Allen in Innsmouth, but his Edward Derby is the exact opposite, an absolute triumph of voice acting.
@@iamperplexed4695 I forget when and where he made it known, but one good example you can find is the playlist "Mangg plays Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth", which is somewhere on this channel.
I love love love when you read Lovecraft. I work nights, and i work from home. I fall asleep to it during the day, and then, while i work all night, I'll listen to it all again
Heck yeah! When I first read this story, I didn’t think it was particularly scary or interesting. But some years passed and I come to appreciate it more and more.
How can I enjoy scary movies so little and just adore the audiobooks? Oh well, one more idiosyncrasy for the pile! And now, for the actual point of the comment (drum roll please) bddddddddddddddd, another great video to get me through these long ass third shifts! How likely/unlikely might a deeper dive into Cthulhu mythos be? I was around for the old playlist but man, i know some longer deeper dives could be done and I'd very much like to hear it done with your voice and style and outlook. But even if not, thanks for the great content you've made so far, it's more appreciated than I can convey in a YT comment.
I really appreciate lovecraft videos like these. I've listened to the older recording uploaded to youtube but the audio quality and your voice cadence are much better.
I love this story! The 1st time I read this story I was 15 years old...now i'm 37 this is a great experience it in audio format, love the ambient and eerie sounds especially on Halloween. well done sir!!
Love the audiobooks, they are always really pleasing to listen to. You are a very special creator to me, I don't think anyone comes close to your narration skills and I really really appreciate that. Keep on going, you earned yourself a patreon supporter, just to show my seriousness about this.
Dude I've enjoyed your content for a long time and it's gotten me through many tedious work days. The SCP stuff is awesome and as a fellow fan of Lovecraft I love your readings too! The voice acting and everything was awesome in this story! Can't wait to keep listening 🖤 appreciate your work greatly dude
I've had a lovecraft anthology for almost 15 years and your readings still make up a majority of the stories I know. I wonder how much that young man in the story was supposed to be a self-insert of mr lovecraft
I remember listening to an audio read of this one by the talented Wayne June* *Wayne June did a good number of audio reads for Lovecraft stories, but some might now him better as The Narrator from The Darkest Dungeon games
Well this became the best followers ever, was so happy I could listen to this last night right before I went to sleep, and then again today at work, I love you and all of your videos and I hope you have a great Halloween
You’re my favourite narrator man. If you’re up to suggestions I’d love to hear your reading of ‘Blood Meridian; or the evening redness in the west’ by Cormac Mcarthy.
I know it can feel disparaging when new content doesn't do as well as old content, but thats because a steady stream of one type of content for years attracts an audience that expects that. You're going to have a hard time attracting viewers that enjoy the new content if you don't keep at it, plus you enjoy making it which is perfectly valid on its own
I usually just listen to your SCP especially the Sarkic ones( you really should make one again) ,but i tried to listen into H.P. lovecraft und this story was since long time a scary one. The idea to see your best friend becomes another Person in that way how shown. You couldnt even shoot him, knowing your best friend could come back. Really tragic
Never stop audio books. Please. I know the audience is heavy SCP but do not ever stop. With love, me
I agree I found this chanel through scp's but reckon he could put his voice to anything. bravo narrator 👍
Agreed.
I second
AY! This be a fine sentiment
Aye
Asenath heard "gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss" and picked a completely different kind of gate.
Hahaha this is fantastic.
Love the audio books, love the movie summaries, love the scp content. Thank you for your videos.
i wish you to know i value your readings very much mr Exploring. Even if there are not many watchers, know they are very much loved and cherished.
your voice and narration fits perfectly with lovecraft’s stories. It all flows in such a sublime way
One of my favorites, and arguably one of Lovecraft's best. That sudden left turn in the last third of the story, when it becomes clear how truly Inescapable Derby's fate is... fucking chills.

I am a simple pine marten. I see H.P. Lovecraft narration by TES, I click.
Furries are cool.
There isn't really any point to this comment other than to balance out random anti-furry comments, carry on.
Adding to the positivity, I also think furries are cool.
Am furry love pine martens
That golden eagle still after you?
@@dwarvenninja8104 nah, got taken out by a fox years ago.
Good thing, too, I'm not as fast as I used to be. Not that I can be with a wooden leg...

At work, 3am, night shift at a deserted gym, alone. This is perfect. Happy Halloween 🦇
These types of videos are my favourite from you. Probably because it's obvious the passion and enthusiasm you have for the subject
The thing that made me click and watch when your video came on at 3PM
It's awesome! Love your narrations and love Lovacraft. Thank you!
This isn't HPL's best story, but it's probably Mangg's best reading ever. I complained about his Zadok Allen in Innsmouth, but his Edward Derby is the exact opposite, an absolute triumph of voice acting.
Mangg's? What is that?
@iamperplexed4695 Mangg is the person whose voice we hear, who runs the channel The Exploring Series
@quicksilvertongue3248 Thanks, I guess. How is one supposed to know that?

30:56 Really good voice acting. Well done.
HELL YEAH just in time for halloween. Love me a lovecraft audiobook, I look forward to these more than any other video, I think.
I drive for work so my time to read is limited, but fortunately you’re doing it for me
YES. NEW LOVECRAFT AUDIOBOOK.
Love the H.P. Lovecraft audio book series! ❤
These are some of my favorite stories to begin with but how you read and bring them to life is absolutely amazing thank you for sharing them Mangg

All these years TES, thanks for the content!
I think I've listened to this about half a dozen times now. Fascinating story, and an excellent reading.
I love these readings so much and its a great way to get thru the many Lovecraft books
Oh hell yea, the first HP Lovecraft story I had ever read and a personal favorite. Awesome to hear your narration of it.
What an absolute blessing
I love this story!

Your HP love craft book readings are some of my favorite videos
I must say, that's a fire sentense to start a story. Hard to think of something that grabs your attention better
For real! Nothing hooks you quite like "I had to empty a full cylinder into my best friend's head".
It doesn't get any better than Lovecraft on Halloween!
Excellent work once again TES, you're a gift to this site. Keep on strong, you are appreciated
Please do more audiobooks. Your measured narration is perfect for books like this.
