One of the greatest vocal melodies paired with some of the weakest lyrics I've ever heard... It drives me mad because it's so beautiful yet listening to the verses dulls the effect. The chorus is all-round beautiful... As is the performance.

the tuning is EADGBB and he's just fretting the bottom 4 or 5 strings and using his thumb for the low e on everything except for the E chord...sort of like a barre chord but leaving the top one or two strings open

He didn't leave out his guitarist... they're playing together so as to give more strength to the song... acoustic versions tend to be softer than the original versions, that's why the've to play together.
Martin should be chopping wood to make logs instead. His voice is out of tune here. The thing he has got is enthusiasm but is that enough? Good wailing voice compensates a tad.
Think about it...if he's not playing something, what else is he supposed to do with his hands? It would just be awkward sitting and singing, during an acoustic performance.
