    Thanks for the great video... I used parchment paper under the new seal between the car paint and the seal's adhesive, then closed the window which perfectly aligns the rubber (peel off the protective tape from the adhesive strips first!!). This allows you to fine tune the position before permanently sticking it down. When everything is adjusted properly, just slowly slide the paper out (comes out effortlessly) while pressing down on the new rubber as you go. Works like a charm and rubber is perfectly aligned. The big job is cleaning off the old adhesive... but if you use this method to install the new seal, it only takes a few seconds and you get it right the first time!

    It's a shame how much BMW would charge us for such a simple fix. I watched a different vid on the sans repair. The young guy took the whole window out. He had to remove the pillar also. I was like G, that's going to be a little much. He also had manual Windows on his 3 series. I was so glad to see your video with power windows. I was also relieved when you repaired it without taking out the window. GREAT JOB. I'll be doing this soon. My seal is way worse than your was. Great Video bro! Thanks

    Josh Taylor: Thank you for this excellent video, I just order my stripping trim (2) a year ago I bought my 2005 BMW 330CI, and little by little I am fixing all the bads.

    Josh, thanks a lot for the video ;)
    Tip for placing correctly the stripping trim using the existing double sideed tape:
    Peel off like 10 or 15 cm. (like 6 inches) of the double sided tape plastic protector, at the front of the trim (to the car´s front side). Fold out these 15cm. plastic that you take off, so when you put the trim on place you can see it. Place the trim correctly, starting at the rear of the window, then, when is fully on place, hold it, and pull the plastic strip to peel back off the double sided tape protector to the rear end. I used a helper to pull back off the tape while i was holding the trim. Voila!

    Hey just to help some others out. They make plastic razor blades that are designed for car paint to help get the adhesive off also some lacker thinner or acrasal breaks the tape off well just don't slop it on use sparingly and let it dry for a minute or two before adding some more or you can mess up your clear coat(kinda hard to ruin the clear coat) Another good thing to use is some adhesive promoter like pro-bond. And so you don't have to worry bout misplacing the piece back on peal about half inch to an inch of the plastic covering for the the double sided adhesive and put some normal tape like scotch to make it like 3 inches longer so it sticks out past the edge of the part. So the adhesive still can't stick yet. Then place it in the correct spot then take the piece of tape that you attached to the plastic that keeps the adhesive from sticking and without lifting up on the part so its in place you would be able to pull downward on the tape to peal the plastic barrier away and the part will stick without you having to try to place it right sorry about my grammer and spelling :/ I know its awful the tape thing is hard to explain but works really well without a chance to really misplace the new part. If you guys have any questions I'll try to answer them or explain it better.

    One thing to note - the part numbers used in this video are for the matte trim finish. If you have the glossy black ones, you may want to check with ECS Tuning to get the right ones. I started to, but had already ordered and received the matte ones and decided they look just fine - fit great and not too bad to install!

    Awesome video, I appreciate the howto lesson! The adhesive on my M3 strips were so stuck on there, it took me an hour to scrape, hack, chop, googone and get it off. That was the hardest part!!

    I just finished doing this myself, and here is my advice.
    You do NEED something to more effectively remove the old adhesive. That part of this job takes the longest. I ended up using de-greaser and water with a knife, but I couldn't get everything off. That said, I have a very solid fit and finish regardless.
    Although the stripping is in place, I am worried now about rust.
    You don't really need to remove the side vent, I managed without doing that.
    If you have a black trim originally (like me), then the matte strips look fine. However, if you have a chrome trim, you should get chrome otherwise it will look terrible without it in matte.
    This job is easy depending on how gutted your old stripping is, both sides took me about 1.5hrs.

    • @etchesketch

      It is a separate part from the one Josh is using in the video: ES#96034. I learned that the hard way after I ordered the non-chrome part and compared it to my car.
      Josh, have you ever done a replacement for the chrome version? Is it any harder to remove than the matte one?

    • @JoshTaylor
      @JoshTaylor  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Taylor Etcheson I have not. I'd imagine it's the same process though chrome trim may be a little less flexible.

      Mate,u foud out how to remove the chrome strip?,i dont want to brake mine

    • @etchesketch
      @etchesketch 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +marianoviking, I was able to remove my chrome strip and rubber trim. I definitely mangled the chrome piece beyond repair while removing it, severely twisting and bending the metal at intervals as I pried it away from the rubber part. I was not interested in keeping the piece intact.
      Once I had the chrome strip removed, I proceeded with +Josh Taylor's method of applying Tarminator. That adhesive foam is really slippery and stubborn! I ended up damaging my clear coat a bit while trying to use a metal razor blade, and the Tarminator dripped down the car and caused parts of my aftermarket pinstripe to come off, so I had to remove the whole pinstripe. Also, don't let the Tarminator sit on the paint too long; on mine, it caused the clear coat to develop a ripple.

      I find FCPEuro has better pricing w/ shipping. ECS may have a lower price, but they screw you on shipping. The first upgrade I recommend are ECS' performance metal pulleys (water & pwr steering). That's something you obviously can't get anywhere else.
