Hey Guys Matt Olson here the driver of Lucky. Though we were on the losing end of this battle we were happy to make the 3 minutes with Copperhead. To answer some questions for guys you will notice we had forks on the front. It was a design change that we had thought would work against them and obviously that was not the solution for approaching a drum spinner like Copperhead. Any way I approached them Lucky was just unsuccessful at getting underneath them. As some have mentioned Copperhead has so much weight on the front end it made it impossible for the forks to do much good. We have some design changes needed to go up against the ever popular vertical spinners. Hope to be back next year battling it out. Thank you all for the kind compliments on the driving and enjoy the rest of the season!

Congrats to both teams. Really great showing from both. Hope they keep bringing performances of this calibre or more in the future.
Was really happy to see Lucky get some wins this year, this was just a bad, bad matchup for it. Not a lot of Copperhead to get flipping. Glad Copperhead rebounded from last year’s upset. Should be a war against Witch Doctor.
That gyroscopic action that vertical spinners have is so beneficial - Copperhead's maneuverability in tight spaces made it impossible for Lucky to get an angle
Gyroscopic force can be beneficial and can be fatal. Minotaur in 2016 used the gyro to drive with only one wheel. While it can be fatal because when a side of a bot is mid air, opponent can use it to their advantage.
It's usually the opposite. Vertical spinners suffer the most from gyroscopic since the spinner is spinning at the 90-degree angle with the drive angle. Most teams were able to solve this issue, so you don't really see it being the problem.
@@kodoqbesar4301 It's can also help Minotaur easily get back over since when inverted their drum because basically useless so being able to gyro back over helps. But it can also cost them like when they faced Deathroll in 2019 and them trying to gyro back over allowed Deathroll to land some big hits. One bot who Gyro never helped them was Yeti like again in their fight with Deathroll where they were gyro dancing the entire fight allowing Deathroll to just land a bunch of nasty hits. It's why the new version of Yeti is so much better as haven't really seen them Gyro at all. So now they can actually drive fast and turn on a dime while keeping the wheels on the ground. As compared to other seasons where any time they turned they would gyro out of control.
@@wisewolftony You're right. Gyro can be used to self right, but the drums needs to be fast. Yeti's drum is not fast enough so it spends much of its time getting bullied by Death Roll.
While I appreciate more fights being readily available for the international audience, there is no excuse not to show this fight in full in the actual episode. A viewer should not have to pause the episode, then chrome cast youtube from their phone for the best viewing experience.
I think Lucky should have gone with more of a scooped front rather than those tiny forks. Seriously, how did they think they were going to flip a bot as rounded and compact as Copperhead when their forks are so small combined with the fact that their flipper didn't have much of a blade on the end, meaning that they couldn't get any purchase on their opponent?
Copperhead's forks have 100s of pounds on them, I don't think any scoop or fork can get under them, P1 tried and they were annihilated in first 1st contact.
scoops are going to have absolutely no chance of getting underneath copperhead no matter how hard you try, 70% of copperhead's weight (minimum, estimated by their driver) is on the forks, it doesn't get more groundscraping then that
Great season for Lucky with Matt Olson at the sticks, look forward to seeing them again next year. Honestly though, Copperhead is the real deal. I cannot wait to see more of them these finals!

Have to ask... Why did that segment about saying bots can look like their captains get in over this? (I didn't even hate that segment on its own, but it had no place in this episode)
Personally I would've aired this over the Skorpios vs Malice play in and highlighted that since that bout pretty much went how most expected it to go, but hey. *shrugs* Bit of a shame, love both of these bots/teams but I held some hope for Lucky moving on. Their performance with the new driver is a quantum improvement over past seasons. Unfortunately, that little beast of a drum spinner is absolutely the last thing any flipper wants to fight. Copperhead has all of its weight sitting on its weapon and its front wedgelets, meaning that any purchase with Lucky's flipper arm is next to impossible save for a shot at the back. Kudos to the Canadian bot for making it to three minutes, but they were a punching bag after the first.
That Lucky driver has some mad driving skills to last 3 minutes despite a relatively ineffective offensive weapon system. Give him a bot with a better weapon and he would have absolutely toasted his competition.
The way to disable a high spinning/low torque blade like these is to deploy chain for it to wrap itself in . Once the blades are stopped, they have almost no torque to restart. Then, when locked together, deploy a hydraulic shear to just start crushing and cutting to get on the inner workings and disable them. Instead of flipping and spinning, hold and eviscerate. These big flips are dramatic but they tend to do little damage.

Is it illegal to have a mini bot like the one lucky used but have it full of string or yarn or something? Have that just drive right into a vertical spinner and there’s a chance to disable it right?
The front of Lucky isn't sloped enough.. the front part of Luckys flipper should be shaped more like Bronco, with the bottom of the flipper almost flush with the floor, so that they can get under an opponent and kind of fling them immediately, rather than having to wait for the other bot to ride up the front before it's lined up for a flip that ends up being almost like a punch. I like Lucky, just think it could easily be improved to be more consistent and practical.
I keep going back to Lucky's week 4 match against Tantrum. Remember? The one where Tantrum got hung up in an awkward position and was about to get counted out, but Mark Demers inexplicably saved it from its fate because, oh who the freak cares, and he ended up losing? If that doesn't happen, he's 3-0 going into the tournament and most likely gets something like Shatter or Hypershock. He could've left the Battlebox a 4-1 blazing phenom instead of a 2-2 eh-not-bad-I-guess kid. Lucky is a tough piece of work, and Demers definitely knows his way around an arena, so there's potential here. I'd _like_ to see it as the successor to Hydra. The flipper needs to be redisgned for better leverage, and Demers has to learn to be ruthless and play hard to win _every_ match he's in. If that happens, it's clear path to the top echelon. As for the the little scrapper Copperhead, this is one of those machines that _really_ needs a smart and mentally tough driver to get anywhere. But true could have been different if we won that first fight against Tantrum. Time to improve for this next year if we are in. Glad your enjoying the show.
I was worried with all the crazy stuff happening that any random robot wouldn't be able to make it back... But I especially was worried that Copperhead could have been one of them, AND IT WASN'T! YEAAAAAH!
I've always wondered about someone bringing Just a solid and shallow wedge at the front to slam against the spinners that are so incredibly common these days. Just force them to engage something that they can't really tear into and deflect as much of the force from heavier blows as possible while trying to pin them into place. Would need to be something impressive as far as armour material goes, and would be very dependant on the driver, but it'd be nice to see something frustrate the death hum
Instead of this fight you got to watch malice with its weapon dead in the first 5 seconds of the match. What is wrong with the producers of BattleBots?
Can be. But they're going to fight Witch Doctor next, then if they beat Witch Doctor they'll face against either Minotaur or End Game. Quadrant 1 is really competitive.
I think if they had won, they would have aired the fight in the episode itself. I could be wrong (I mean, they didn't air Tombstone's qualifying fight in season 2) and I would love to see Copperhead go deep.

What is that little snake there for?
😂 I didn’t need to be told what team was what. I can spot the losers instantly. 😂
This was televised right?
No
That’s really unfortunate
Серьёзный бой! Копперхед просто убийца)))
I was worried with all the crazy stuff happening that any random robot wouldn't be able to make it back... But I especially was worried that Copperhead could have been one of them, AND IT WASN'T! YEAAAAAH!
10:29 is that the bentist?
That’s the driver of Lucky, Matt Olson
whats the yellow lizard for?
Kinda looks like lucky missed a flip opportunity around 3:04, but still props to them for even surviving this onslaught
Lordy, Copperhead just chewed the face right off Lucky. Gruesome!
I give Lucky major credit for lasting as long as it did!, great job!😎
Was copperhead sold? What happened to the original owner/driver?
He wasn’t able to make it do a teammate is driving his name is Robert Cowan. The dudes a pro and goes over these battles on his TH-cam channel
@@davemacharoni3730 Thanks for the info! I first saw Copperhead live here in China a few years back as part of a KFC show. Been a fan ever since.
Not really sure if you can call it a unanimous decision if the winner is based on a scoring matrix!
Great match
It's interesting that no human has yet to identify as a battlebot
Instead of this fight you got to watch malice with its weapon dead in the first 5 seconds of the match. What is wrong with the producers of BattleBots?
I always wonder, what happens if Copperhead fights against Minotaur. Both uses a Drum Spinner....
Can’t believe Lucky still survived that Onslaught. Copperhead win though.
I really think copperhead has an amazing chance at winning the nut. You can't really come under them with forks, because you'll just lose 'm.
Can be. But they're going to fight Witch Doctor next, then if they beat Witch Doctor they'll face against either Minotaur or End Game. Quadrant 1 is really competitive.
There may be an exception. Fusions wedglets did manage to get under copperhead but their vertical drum didn't work.
I think if they had won, they would have aired the fight in the episode itself. I could be wrong (I mean, they didn't air Tombstone's qualifying fight in season 2) and I would love to see Copperhead go deep.
If only Witch Doctor had this kind of weapon durability lol. Imagine them going dozens of hits for three minutes without putting out the magic smoke.
what’s the little snake for?
They're just for fun, they don't actually do anything useful.
Someone explain to me why most why most modern bots have forks or teeth in front that prevent their main weapons from doing anything???
RIP Lucky's Season
